I found some links on another forum that give some good info on helmet safety and which ones may be better. There is a fairly good argument against using a Snell rated hat....they may be too hard and thereby transfer to much impact to your melon.... http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/snell-2010-standard.htm http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/ http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/27/automobiles/27SNELL.html?_r=1 ....some of this info is a few years old, and has been debated to death in many circles, but it is still good information to have.

A couple of tips... We don't ever refer to the fallen as "the body". They are called by name, or by rank, or both. Further, we don't refer to the folks from Kansas by name. They will get no publicity from the PGR. They are Uninvited Guests, or UG's. Nothing more. Thanks for caring enough to turn your feelings into actions.

Sniff....my bike is broken. The shock finally started barfing oil, so it's handling horribly and the ignition switch works only about half of the time. I've got a toggle switch wired in so it's rideable, but it's no fun to ride very far with the rear suspender like it is.

Shock year compatability?
straycatt replied to straycatt's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks guys. I wound up ordering from Partshark. No matter how I split and organized my order, Partshark was cheaper than the others. Now the waiting begins.... -
OK, we all know that all of the model year Gen2 Ventures are pretty much the same. well, I'm fixin' to buy a new ignition switch and a new factory shock. Mine have both gone almost totally, splooey. Yes, I know there are probably better aftermarket units out there (Works, Hagon) but I feel that I need the adjustability that the factory air preload shock offers, so that's what I'm buying. Partshark has the lowest price that I've found, but. I'm finding two part numbers and two different prices. The Partshark diagram shows no vent hose before 2005. Those shocks show a price of $512.84. 2005 and after show the vent hose and a price of $434.50. Now to confuse things worse, one of the years showing the older part number, more expensive shock shows the newer part number at the higher price of the older part number shock. So, the question is....is there a difference between these two shocks and/or price. I don't think there is, and I'm thinking that Partshark has just listed the new updated part number with a wrong price. Why would the older non-vented style shock (if they even make that version any longer) be more expersive than the newer vented style?

Wow, that was quick...and a great old piece of history. Nice pic.

The next target is......you, your bike, and a grain elevator. The bigger and/or older, the better.

Well, I don't know about "Mom and Pop" but it's definitely not a chain store. Found in the little Mid Michigan town of St John. I even waved..... http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a373/gat803/Octoberride2011012.jpg

Where are you at, Bob? If you're around Flint, I've got a garage and a tool or two.

The wife and I would like to go, but won't know for certain if we can go until the first of October. I guess that makes us a firm possibility of a definite maybe.

Been there, done that. Thanks to Pancreatitis, I can never drink alcohol again. EVER.

Okay then. New target......you, your bike, and a gazebo. On second thought, is there any support for altering the game to "Your bike and ???" It's a pretty safe bet that if your scooter is there, you're there as well......just a thought. lol Either way, the target is a gazebo.......thanks to Karl for the suggestion, I had nothing.

For Tire Anal Riders (like me)
straycatt replied to Billet's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
What does the "Max weight XXX at XX psi" label embossed on the side of the tire say? -
Karl and I went out to do a Can Am Spyder demo ride today, and in our travels when ran across this. Not real artistic, but I guess beauty/art is in the eye of the beerholder. Judges? http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a373/gat803/boxcartag002.jpg

I had this same problem when I did my I basket. I just took it back apart and reassebled it and it worked right. Never did figure out what I did wrong the first time.

I currently own three Grand Am's, and while rim leaks are a problem with these cars, they are not the only ones that have it. The best way I've found, short of buying new wheels, is to clean up the sealing bead on the wheel. The tire guys will just dismount the tire and swab some sealant around the bead....and it doesn't work for long. I have the tire removed from the rim then take the rim home and really dress it up. Remove from the sealing area, any nicks or burrs with a file. Then use fine steel wool to clean any loose scale or old rubber/rim coating and wash well with water and dry. I know guys that also spray paint the bead with clear lacquer or enamel after clean up, but I haven't gone that far. I don't have any experience with attempting to install inner tubes on these rims, but it strikes me as a Bandaid rather than a fix.

If you want to know what owners really think about their HD's and the problems they have, spend some time here... http://www.hdforums.com/forum/index.php ...I go there just for fun. If you join up, don't mention what you ride. The faithful don't take well to non-believers.

diamone r led light question
straycatt replied to david Taylor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I brought this thread back as there has been a "development". Plainly I was a tad miffed at the high shipping charge from DiamondR on my light. I thought it was high, but I really like the light so I figured that it was worth it. I didn't contact Allen/Patti about it, nor have I made another order since. Yesterday I received this email.... "Glenn, Just a note to let you know on a review of my shipping invoices I noticed you were over charged on S/H on the slimline you ordered. I have credited back $10.55 to cc # ending in XXXX. Sorry it has taken me so long to review this.Hope you are enjoying your new light bar.Let us know when you need more Goodies for your ride. Enjoy the Ride Allen & Patti" .....that, ladies and gents, is a class act by people that actually care about their customers. -
There is usually at least one set on Craigslist, daily. While some sellers think they are worth their weight in gold, I see them go for $20-$40.

Need to Replace Electric Hot Water Heater-Opinions?
straycatt replied to RSTDdog's topic in Watering Hole
Very good explanation. Let me add, if you want to increase the temp rise, you can either increase the BTU's or slow the water down so it spends more time being heated or reduce the amount (volume) of water being heated. All of these things have a bearing on real world use. -
Need to Replace Electric Hot Water Heater-Opinions?
straycatt replied to RSTDdog's topic in Watering Hole
Ok, lets try it this way. A tank type water heater will put out a lot of hot water for a short amount of time, and then it's done for a while. A tankless water heater will put out less hot water, but will do it forever. The tank type has lots of time to heat your water, the tankless doesn't. Because the tankless has to heat the water "on demand" it does two things. The first is to be able to generate enough BTU's to heat the water and still function within the design limitations of existing construction. The second is that it limits the water flow so it has time to be heated. Where the standard tank water heater may be 30,000 BTU's, the tankless may need 70,000 BTU's to do the same thing.
