  1. I bought a new '83 650 Nighthawk in 1984. I started it every week or so thru the first three winters, letting it run for roughly 20 minutes or until everything felt hot. By the third year the mufflers were completely rusted out. I replaced the mufflers, stopped running the bike thru the winter, and the exhaust still looked new when I sold the bike in 2004. My feeling is that if you can't ride it long enough to heat it up really well, then don't run it at all.
  2. Note to self. Make sure you spend a lot of time calling other peoples beliefs and opinion ridiculous. It lends credibility to your own opinions and makes you look so much more intelligent. We can all be insulting. But being pissy just because, doesn't accomplish much. Have a Nice Christmas.
  3. ....
  4. I disagree. I rarely wear a seat belt. Doesn't matter why. I think the best safety device a car could have is a 12" long spike sticking out of the steering wheel pointed at the drivers chest.....you can bet people would pay attention to their driving if they knew certain death came with a crash. The problem isn't distracted drivers so much as it is secure drivers. Cars have become so safe in the event of a crash for the driver, that there is little incentive to avoid the crash in the first place. "I've got airbags and seat belts, I've got good insurance. If I wreck it, I'll just go get another one and be on my way." I hear that sentiment often enough to believe it's common. I have yet to get a seat belt ticket, but if I do I'll pay the $65 extortion fee and keep doing what I do. The above referenced law specifically excludes LEO's. WTH!!! Cops are some of the worst, constantly on their phones while they drive. Or is the logic....some people can drive and talk on their phones with no problems. If that's the case, why only cops, firefighters, and ambulance jockies. I know quite a few of these folks and a number of them are terrible drivers. Why not make further exceptions for other professional drivers? Trucker drivers, cabbies, race car pilots, etc, etc. New laws are usually NOT the answer.
  5. I thought it was funny.:hihi:
  6. It's there, you just need to know the super secret Yamaha access code. I agree that it's a great ride. I've got maybe, 1K miles on mine and I'm in love, though it is a hard bike to get used to.
  7. Since Yamaha usually has a Venture on display, what do you say we meet at the Venture at 1 pm? I'l be the mostly bald guy with the gray beard.
  8. On occasion I spend time at Kimberly's with some of my ABATE friends. Now I may be about half crazy, but I'm not crazy enough to mess with those guys. Some of them boys are un-hinged. I try to hang out at the taverns with bike parking right by the front door.......The Men's Club, Teasers, etc.
  9. I plan to be there by 11 am on Saturday.
  10. Karl, I wanna hang out with you more often. I always leave my hat and often my leather on my bike, and have never lost either one. I did have a motorcycle stolen once.....bot my helmet wasn't with it Now that I have a scooter with a full set of Samsonite luggage on board, I'll probably put my stuff away more.
  11. Mine is in the form of a high pitched squeal, some days louder than others. The result of a hunting buddy's desire to kill a goose with a 10 guage over my shoulder. At least he dropped the bird.
  12. I've had a number of lids for kids. he he he Most bought locally at Indie bike/snowmobile shops, or hand me downs. Look for BMX or off road DOT hats. A couple of pointers if I may. The smaller the rider, the less developed their neck muscles are, so they need the lightest helmet possible. Everyone wants to put a FF on their kid but often they can't hold their head up with a FF hat on it. When my oldest girl started street riding with me at 5 years old, the only lid that she could wear was an 3/4 open face. All of the kids (4 years and up) that ride sleds with me have a very hard time holding up an FF. Especially on rough trails. I put them in front of me and sort of cradle their helmeted head in between my arms and steady them by hand when needed. I am all for kids on bikes/quads/sleds/go carts/etc. Just be aware of their strength limitations.
  13. That's what I just put on mine. Best price was http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/search/search.jsp?x=0&y=0&searchString=dunlop+elite+3&store=&resultType=subCategories I believe that 2nd gen's have always come from the factory with 150's front and rear. Though I have only around 1K miles on my E3's, I like them so far.
  14. Sorry to hear that Karl. I hope they get you taken care of eventually........have you heard any thing about the one that tried to kill you?
  15. As much as I appreciated your previous offer to sell or gift me that ah, device/sculpture/wood shop project, I think that I appreciate more your decision to NOT give it to me. Your success with the I basket does give me renewed hope that my whine/chirp may be made to go the same way.......any tool that works when you need it, is a good tool. More so when you make it yourself.
  16. Thanks T. I'm thinking you could ship it to me thru a series of members in Texas, one of which would have to hand deliver it to an intermediate courier, who (or is it whom?) would in turn deliver it to and un-named shipping company for shipment to a member in Ohio. The Ohio member could drive the package to a blind drop location where an, yet to be named member would pick it up and drive it to ic23b's house where I may or may not pick it up. I could therefore deny any knowledge of or complicity with any device that may or may not have been created in any way close to a Rube Goldberg fashion or intent, as I may or may not have ever received such a device.
  17. Cool, thanks for the link.

    Why?

I gave up trying to figure out "why". I just wanna know "when".
  19. I'm doing an "I" basket this winter as well and am going to need the tool. Anybody wanna sell one?
  20. I think you're right Gary, this is the end. I found a few places today in Mt Morris that looked like they had already put a little salt down. When the salt is out my bike is not, good thing that I got a quick ride in yesterday. On the plus side, I've already been turning wrenches on snowmobiles and have been around the yard on several sleds.
  21. Thank you for your service, Ron. May I suggest that you and/or your SO contact your local Patriot Guard Riders. Many family members find comfort with the PGR while their loved ones are deployed. http://www.ohiopgr.com/
  22. I got home from work this afternoon and thought, Hey I should hop on the bike and see what's up in Clio.......it's fun being the only bike on the road at 40*, lots of people point and stare. Look familiar Art? Oh hey, I just remembered. The PGR is marching in the Clio parade this Friday. I'll be there:dancefool:this is our third year to be invited to walk in the Clio parade.
  23. I haven't been able to drink alcohol in ten years (medical situation), but I have always loved the taste of beer. I used to be a 25 year professional drinker. Busch NA is, I have found, the best tasting NA beer around, but few bars stock it. My worth is if my sobriety is so fragile as to be derailed by a burger cooked in beer, it is likely too fragile to last long anyway. However. I agree that the bar/restaurant should disclose how they cook their food, so that those who don't wish to consume beer cooked food have that choice up front.
  24. This just doesn't make any sense. Why would Mother Yamaha discontinue a feature, the 5 year warranty, that (according to this source) cost them little because of lack of claims......yet is an excellent selling point. The rep may be right. The Mother Ship most likely is and has been working on introducing a new touring bike. That doesn't mean they are done working on it. The fact is, that very few bikes remain in production, totally unchanged, for ten years or more. That alone signals the imminent demise of the scooter we all know and love.
  25. That's what I do. A universal gun sock is less than a $10 dollar bill at Wallyworld. Works great.
