When it's cold out ( I believe the throttle isn't supposed to affect the cruise unless you change the bikes speed by more than 5 mph (I think). I do know that when I had an old set of fringed lever covers on my bike, the cruise would absolutely NOT stay set at all. I took 'em off and the cruise went back to perfect. Are you sure it's not the levers?

I stand corrected on the E3's, however the Metz are identical. I had them on my Spirit and was amazed that they were the same. I went out and took a pic of my E3's too, but I'll have to look for a pic of the Metzler's.

Often, not even that. The Dunlop E3 tread pattern front and rear are identical. The front tread pattern is just reversed from the rear. This is also true for the Metz ME880 and others as well.

In your opinion, what are the top five states to motorcycle in?
straycatt replied to Sunrayman's topic in Watering Hole
1. Any state but Michigan 2. Any state but Michigan 3. Any state but Michigan 4. Any state but Michigan 5. Any state but Michigan Michigan has some nice things to see, but the condition of our roads is horrible. That and Michigan has three curvy roads and I been on all of them. -
I just leave my instrument display on the clock all of the time. I don't generally need to know how many miles are on my bike at any given time and I can check the trip meter when I stop for gas.

When I got home today, the wife had been to the post office (we don't have mailboxes out front, gotta go to town for mail) and there sat my box with, hopefully, some aluminum inside. Opened the box and, sure enough, aluminum. Well, aluminum and packing peanuts. At least I assumed it was aluminum. Between the peanuts, the bubble wrap and then under that, the nice thick paper towel taped to the pieces I couldn't be sure what it was. I did know that it had the vague shape of what I was waiting for..... And then I got side tracked for a while, fighting the dogs for the packing peanuts before they scattered the crazy thing all over the house......guess who won. About halfway through this party the noise brought the Wicked Witch of the North downstairs to see what all the commotion was about......that led to a discussion of what did you get and why in the hell are you buying motorcycle parts in January. Because it's my money and I'll buy whatever I want with it finally sorta' ended that side show, and after almost 20 minutes I got to check out my goodies. :mo money: Wow, was I impressed. Great workmanship, good heavy material, and not only was the packing sufficient to stop anything short of a direct nuclear strike, my critters enjoyed it immensely. Nice work Ruffy, thank you. Now, if I can just resist the urge to have them powder coated to match my bike I'll be all set.

I guess I'm having a hard time understanding this. Indulge me for a moment. I own four motorcycles. Last year I had the money to insure and plate all four. Every thing is good. This year I have the money to insure and plate only one of them. The other three bikes just sit in my garage. Same story the next year. Sooo, those three bikes are going to incur late fees for plates even though they're not on the road?........unless I notify the California government at the beginning? WOW!

WOW! I can think of at least a dozen reasons to not renew a reg in any given year and none of them should be illegal.

The war on drugs is over......WE LOST. Time to legalize is over due.

It's cold, it's snowy, so what to do? Well, I ride anyway. Only did 30 miles but it was a beautiful day out. Warm or cold, sun or rain. Gotta get out and enjoy the planet.

Front and rear tire pressure
straycatt replied to Chiro's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
One mans unnecessary risk is another mans standard operating procedure and I would never presume to tell some one else how to run. That being said, side wall max inflation numbers at max weight are just that. Maximum x maximum. If I'm not running max weight I don't run max air. That and I like a soft ride. My E3's generally carry 38 and 35, aft and fore respectively. With only 1K miles on them it's too soon to see what that's going to do to longevity. :2cents: -
I rarely schedule any thing, all I need is 24 hours notice for vacation time. I generally only know what I'm doing after I've done it.

Sorry I missed you all. I had the grandson with me and he was done around noon. I almost had to drag him away from the Full Throttle Saloon girls. Then the wife almost had to drag us both away. Grandson even picked out his new bike.

I didn't buy my tickets online with the discount code that Progressive sent to me because I wasn't sure of how many tickets to buy. The wicked witch of Genesee (my wife) still doesn't know if she wants to go or not. So I was a little bummed that I'd have to pay full price to get in, maybe x 2. Fast forward to today. I'm off work for the holiday. I had some errands to run on the East side of town, and I've got the radio on the local classic rock station that I usually listen to, 103.9 The Fox. I'm only about half paying attention to the radio when it finally dawns on me that the DJ is talking about the tickets to the Novi bike show that they're giving away in 5 minutes......at a Tim Horton's on the south west end that's at least fifteen minutes from where I'm at. I pull a U'y and hit the gas. I got the last 4 tickets that he had. It's a good day.

One of my friends has a Voyager kit on her Sporty. I've been on it only once, but I have spent enough time behind her to see a few high lights of what to do or not do with 2+2 wheels. Watch your corners. It's alot wider than your scoot was. Don't turn so tight. Easy on the rear brake. As often as I see smoke from her rear tire, it appears to be easier to lock down the rear with the extra wheels back there. I've asked, and she swears she is very light on the hind anchor. Pay attention to the road surface. That's a big pile of unsprung weight hanging off your bike. I've seen the extra wheels bounce around enough to wonder how she stayed in the saddle. Keep an eye out for pot holes and chatter bumps. Look out for high centers, or rather low centers. We've had to push her bike out of a low spot where the rear drive tire wasn't touching the ground enough to move the bike. The Sporty goes thru tires more often with the extra wheels attached. Watch your ground clearance. You've got more stuff hanging off the bottom of your bike Your VR may be totally different, but those are the things that come to mind. I'll ask JJ if she has any other tips the next time I see her. She's been riding that thing for 4 years now and always says she loves it.

Oh yea, Seafoam will burn white too. My opinion? Stop running your bike in the off season.
-
Was it white smoke or just a little condensation? White smoke = anti=freeze = bad Wispy steam = condensation = not so bad

I bought a new '83 650 Nighthawk in 1984. I started it every week or so thru the first three winters, letting it run for roughly 20 minutes or until everything felt hot. By the third year the mufflers were completely rusted out. I replaced the mufflers, stopped running the bike thru the winter, and the exhaust still looked new when I sold the bike in 2004. My feeling is that if you can't ride it long enough to heat it up really well, then don't run it at all.
