Glad to hear you got yours completed. Well the switch is still not here. Bought salvage on ebay last week. However, I went ahead and used the info gleaned here and installed the toggle switch. I connected the toggle to the back side of the plug to the switch on the 2 line red-and blue/brown wires. I ran the wire under the tank support area and down and behind the battery. Here you have a rubber plug hoel with a rubber plug in it and the material is like plastic or fibreboard. I thought about trying to create a hole in the backing but instead took out the rubber plug and cut a hole in it and attached the toggle to it and reeinserted in back into the hole it plugs. Now if I have a problem I can reach back under the seat and behind the battery and easily reach the switch. Not sure now if I will go through the trouble of replacing the switch until I have more trouble. I guess it depends on when the switch shows up. I still have a clutch slave cylinder rebuild to do this weekend as well as a clearview windshield and RK mufflers to install. Thanks everyone who contributed to this. Without this site I would be paying the local Yami dealer for something that is not that hard with the expert info available here. Thanks ALL jb :bighug:

Glead you got your done. As for me I got the tank and other items out of the way last night and plan on tackling the rest tonight. How did you get the bolts out of the switch? Where did you get the new switch? I bought a slavage switch off a 2005 (ebay) and need new ( does anyone know exact size etc?) bolts and the Yammi dealer said they only sell the bolts with the new switches. I guess I will have to improvise. I have a bolt extractor and I have a dremmel so I guess I can get the old switch off. I am going to add the extra toggle anyway though. Now what is this about using the top of the old switch and bottom of the new to allow me to use the same OLD keys? Can someone explaing How I do this. Remember I am new at this and intellectually challenged. LOL LOL jb

Pm me with the needed paypal info and ship me a set if you still have one. :hurts::hurts: -
I called 2 local Yami dealers and each told me that I needed a different kit. One said the kit was several items that totaled about $50 and the second told me that alls I needed was teh 2 seals for the slave kit if I was dealing with a small leak. I am dealing with a small slow leak but want to make sure I change out the right items. Is the 2 seal changes enough typically?? On another note I won a set of RK pipes yesterday fro $16.50 yesterday and they are local to me. So I will get to add them as soon as I arranage for the fitting I need from our member who is selling them. My clearview arrived yesterday so I guess I can give gunboat his shorty windshield back. Thanks for letting me borrow it gunboat!! I out of town at the moment at sons house in RoundRock Tx but hoping I can get my biek back on the road and take a ride next weekend. have a great weekend everyone jb

Help finding part!!
jburrell replied to jburrell's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well, I thought the ones I found were expensive in chrome but I guess not. If the MC was black those would be good. Looks like I will be ggoing to the chrome one I found once I get finished with the other projects. Thansk for showing me those though perhaps someone will want/need one too. Have a great weekend. jb:thumbsup: -
Help finding part!!
jburrell replied to jburrell's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It seems I had gotten away with searrching at work and had bookmarked it there instead of on home system. This is what I was looking at althought I will review the ones listed in this thread first before I decide which to choose. Thanks all for the assist. http://www.hellrisercustoms.com/selector.php?group=7&category=Handlebars&subcat=Brakes&title=Handlebar Chrome 3 switch toggle for atop the front brake MC. jb -
Last week I saw a part that I now find that I really WANT. I saw it on one of the sites and thought I had saved it in my favorites but now I can't find it. The part is a toggle switch ( actually 3) that sit on top of the front brake MC. I saw it either on this site or the other venture site and I am hoping that someone will remember where it was and assist me in finding it. I ahve my new key switch ordered and we ( Gunboat et al) are doing a clutch slave rebuild in the next week, as well as adding a new clearview WS and some new grips to the 99 RSV. I con't sope my self now I just bid on a set of RK pipes that are on ebay and located right here is Houston. I can save the shipping on that at least. But I gotta have more chrome I need chrome, I want chrome. LOL I found out this past weekend that my 99RSV will do at least 118, but I chickened out at that speed as I was in an area with a lot of curves. Have a great weekend all and thanks for this great site. JB

Ignition switch issue
jburrell replied to jburrell's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yammi dealer wants $175 for the ignition switch. I am getting mine off ebay. I am going to go for the package that has all the keyed items then I will only need 1 Key for all the locable items ( $150). Biggest issue I see at this point is how to get out that security bolt and what to use once I do. I am removing the tank etc this week since we will see rain all week and I am waiting on parts anyway.Next week I will start out putting the switch in place and while I am at in I need to do a clutch rebuild since I have a small leak at the lower end. I got my Jack and other tools Sat from HF so I think I am ready to start learning how to fix things. OF course I may need further guidance once I get started with my projects. Good luck on yours too. Have you daughter contact a Realtor in NW Houston and they can help her find a House for rent or check on line as there are a number of rentals listed on line.. I have one but its occupied. Tell her not to live close in to 290/610 as that is not a great area. Further NW out 290 or 249 is good. Also 290 near jones and further north is fine. If they need to knwo a realtor they can contact me at my work email and I will find one for them. I have found that a large number of Realtors in the area have 5-6 rentals of their own. With all the forclosures the houses are now becoming rentals. Thats how I got mine.Have your daughter email me at jhburrell@epco.com or have her check online for realtors in the Cypress, Jersey Village (near 290 Jones area) or perhaps Spring, Willowbrook or Tomball area. Lots of rentals out there especially in the spring area. I live in Tomball and have been in houston most of my life. JB

Ignition switch issue
jburrell replied to jburrell's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks guys. This all makes sense now that I see it. Looks like I am getting a new switch. I am sure glad I bought a new dremel today so I can take care of those bolts. I just went to the tool store today and got me a MC/ATV jack from Harbor Frieght for $52 as well as a new set of metric sockets and new screwdrivers etc. I am now back up to snuff when it comes to tools to address issues. I really likes the 8.99 metric socket set they had on sale. All sockets different colors. Had to get a rain check on the air compressor though. My son is dying to repaint my bike. No it doesnt need repainting but he is a Tatoo Artist and recently learned how to paint bikes by working at a bike shop that does custom airbrus work. I already have a helmet painted by him. I may let him paint some of it but I think I will just let him "enhanse" it rather than change it completly. He's gonnna have to wait awhile first. The bike looks to good right now to mess with. Maybe if I drop it. Again thanks all for your help Gunboat thanks for stopping Saturday. Hope you and KBay got the kinks out and had a good ride. I should be good to go in about 2 weeks JB -
I have lost all power 2x now. Once while going 55 and once while parked and both after at least 15miles. I did not have power to anything either time. No headlights speedo etc no power to start the bike. Twenty minutes later all is good. I guess the igniton switch is bad and needs cleaning checking out. I suspected this or battery issues in previous thread and several members agreed it was ignition. I agree after seeing this again as it did it while parked. Turned the key on and off over and over and nothing. Then 20-25 minutes and I'm good to go. It appears that this may be a heat issue. Perhaps the driving lights are wired thru switch causing it to heat up? I reviewed what I can find on this site about the ignition switch issue but find that the temp fix thread is dead. Another person mentions a site (bukeyes perf) but I did nto see the part there. Can someone point me to the fix for the temp fix and explain why I should use it and secondly does anyone have directions on removing the switch. I was told to move the tank back and that there is a security bolts to deal with while another mentioned that he took his off without moving the tank and took 15 minutes. Can someone clarify before I start this week? Any help would be appreciated. Jb

You know I bet you are all right. I took a virtural setp back and took another look at this issue. Based from what you all are saying the ignition switch is most likely the issue. Here is my thinking. When I got the RSv the handle bars had 2 in risers added for a better reach for the previous rider (sure helpes me out too). However, I noticed right away that when I lock the bike and I turn the handlebars full L or R the bars bumb the ignition housing. Also, we had to ride the bike home from purchase in a severe thunderstorm just a week ago and the day I had the issue it was about to rain. It seems most likely that I need to remove this and clean it up and look for contact issues. I will certainly do that in the next day or so as I want to take a ride Sat morning to the lake. A few minutes ago PONCH called and agreed to come over and help me. Thanks PONCH. I don't think this will be too hard and I appreciate the offer but I should be able to manage. However if you want to come over really early Sat and Ride then thats anothe issue. (you lead I'll follow) thanks to all for their inputs I will post the results once I have checked it out. jb

I found the Service manual earlier thanks to all who pointedme to it.. Funny thing si that one item I noticed when I stopped was that the Radio had turned off and it did not come back on until I restarted the bike after the 20 minutes. I did still ahve my trip readings if I remember correctly. The KEy did not seem to make a difference when I first stalled. The only thing I notices was that the radio seemed dead at that point. JB

I'm a newby so be gentle on me. I was riding my 99RSV home the other day (I've had it a week) and I was in the inside lane of a busy road and suddenly everything went dead. No lights no radio, no speedo etc. I managed to get into the susicide lane and stop at a light where there was no left and when the light change I pushed it to the sidewalk. I checked the Key the fuses and checked to determine what all was off. I had no headlight no trip meter, gas guage driving lights etc and therefore the bike would not start or run. Now I have not been putting my battery on a charger as it all seemed ok and I was riding it almiost every day. I was however running with full lights including the extra running lights on the front. Well I called a Tow truck and after about 20 minutes I rechecked my bike and I again had power. I was only 6 miles from home so I cancelled the tow and rode it home with the front running lights off. It was here that I became confused. If this was a short why could I now run the bike and if it was a battery issue why also. Another thing I do not understand is that now the emergency flashing lights are on and I don't know how they turned on or how to turn them off. I don't have the service manual yet (its ordered) so I am not sure what to check out or replace. I believe its a battery issue due to me not using the tender and running the extra running lights up front. PErhaps I shoud ditch the battery for a new one and use the tender on a regular basis since I do not know how old the battery is. What do you think? Replace the battery or look for other issues? How do I turn on and off the emergency flashers? Should I take the bike to the shop and have it checked out? IT seemed to be running excellent and this 99 doesn't even have any scratches nor did it have any blemishes anywhere. It looks a lot newer than its age. IF I take it to a shop what do I tell them to check out? Your assistance and input will be greatly appreciated. JB:Venture:

Had a great time meeting everyone and especially appreicaed the help I recieved. I ahve a new windshield on order now with the vent in it like gunboats. I really appreciated the time and effort he put in to assist me. Gunboat went well beyond the normal call to arms. I really felt bad when he had to tow his bike home though. Glad he got it home safely though. We should all get together with as many as possible adn take a nice ride. Lake Conroe or east Texas ride comes to mind maybe Lake Sommerville? I'm in whenever. So much to offer on this site I can seem to find the end..lol Really like the tech article....helps a newby like me. Have a great week all james
