As everyone suggest check out the carbs and make sure you have about 45psi in the rear shock. You can get the pillion pad and back rest pillow top on ebay for less than $200 and your wife will appreciate it. You can then sell you seat set. I replaced all mine at the suffestion of PONCH and he was right it is a lot smoother. As an alternative try sheepskin or padding for her pillion and back rest.but I wholly recommend the pillow tops. Just my 2c worth.

Lynn and I will be there even if we have to cage it. A point to ride to from there would be Independence Tx., then back to Navasota, Montgomery, and back to Tomball/Houston. If someone can get me the address of the restraunt I will see what I can do to map out a ride with some twisties back to Tomball. This will give me the change to buy some Chappel Hill Sasuage while I am there and save some money. I can add it to the Maint Day menu. Have a great week everyone!!!

I am planning on attending with my wife but like others it is too early to register as I have to make sure I am able to attend. Lots of thinkgs will happen between now and August..some good..some not so good. Getting the time off would not be a problem but with todays economy who knows. I am hoping to ride up with others from the Houston area Ponch/Gunboat/Owen etc but waiting until its closer before making any concrete plans. I will have the ride ready to go that for certain and I am looking forward to my first international rally. Sorry I can't confirm till later but add 2 as definite maybe's. Sturgis is the same days so that may affect some attendance from some area's.

I agree about the clutch slave. I just experienced the same thing and the clear oil substance is "brake fluid" from the slave or clutch MC. Rebuild both and save yourself some problems later trying to figure out why it still fails. just my 2 c worth

Sounds like time to call a bike hauler. About 600 to CA from SA. and the bike gets there safely. Sometimes you just can't get thru those high mountain passes for days at a time. Good luck and Happy Holidays

If the package was damaged in shipment then the shipping company is responsible and you should have noted the package damage upon reciept. If the package was left at the door then call the shipping company and let them know you recieved the package with visible damage to the package and want to file a claim on the package. Be firm, the shipping company is responsible if the package arrived with visible damage. If there is no visible damage it depends on what the part is. If it was "fragile" then it still could have been damaged in shipment but it also could have been shipped damaged. Good luck in this matter

If you can get em off with the Allen wrench then you're weights weren't nearly as hard to get off as mine. No matter how hard I tried the weights would not budge that way. However, after being heavily taped the weights came off with just a slight pull of a "PIPE WRENCH". At least I offered input on how to get the old grips off and how to install the new grips to help him out. My old weights have NO marks from the removal as I know how to properly tape them top protect them. There is typically several ways to accomplish a task.
-
I just chaged mine and there is nothing to it. Tape the weights and use a pipe wrench to loosen them and then they just come off. The left side will need to be tugged off as they are just glued to the handlebars. The new grips I bought are also glued back in place and both sides slipped on with no issues. The right side will require that you separate the 2 sides of the switch that houses the CC and kill switch. There is 3 screws in this housing you just need to undo the long ones and separate the 2 sides completly. Once you have done that you will need to remove the 2 gas cables from the existing handle and remove it carefully. You need to be sure you remember which cable goes on top and which on bottom. Reverse install the new grip on the right side. I used Kurykhan grips and they look and feel great. Hope this helps

Well I in fact had 2 blown fuses. I replaced both fuses. The main issue now seems to be that when I replace the TS fuse all is fine except I now dont have any brake lights.and the fuse blows ou again after a few minutes. I had brakes last night. I guess something is shorting out from when I buttoned it all up last night. I will go back and pull the rear light and review all the connections and see if I can find a place where a wire may be crossing etc. Is there a fuse for the brake lights? I cant find a reference for one so I am assuming it is on a circuit with something else. Looks like I will need to get back to it later today. On a side note the muffler mod found on this site sounds fine without being noisy. Just enough noise to let me know I am on a motorcycle now. Thanks for the replies etc.

I am sure someone has run into this before. I am having an electrical issue. I added a new rear brake light that works fine. It works as a tail light and brake light. I solered all connectons and covered connections with tape heavily and buttoned it all back up under the rear tail light. I then did the mod on my mufflers after checking out the new light and with the switch on the tail light lit up and it worked well when braked were applied. I finished my muffler mod and fired up the bike (99rsv) and when I headed out the drive way I noticed that the speedo/turn signal and fuel lights no longer lit up on the dash. I do have headlights/running light taillights and brake lights. I do not see a listing under fuses that would point to the speedo/turnsignal fuel pump as a combo or point to something they would have in common other than they are all electrical. Remember the bike runs fine so the fuel pump is working as is the lights/radio just not the idiot lights for the neutral/turnsignals or the speedo/fuel indicator. Any idea what I did to cause this and how to track the issue down and fix it? I am going back out now to research fused but as I said I dont have anything that points t o what would be commom and still let bike operate.

Well perhaps we shoud consider Kerrville, Bandera or Medina since they all have ample compgounds, rooms and are considerable closer to the three Sisters. Lots of motorcycle rallies start in Medina and Bandera. Camping, cabins pavillions the rivers, hills and lots of twisties to enjoy. If we set up trip early enough we can possilbly get one site that we can all stay at together. Fredicksburg is a trip away from most all these. Personally I believe Medina would be best. Lots of MC rallies out there that time of year. I'm there wherever its held. Just my 2c worth.

I have a 99 RSV and even with all the in-town driving I do I get 40mpg and I'm a really big guy. The last long trip I took I got 42 so, it appears that you have an issue especially since your talking lower 30mpg. Perhaps its time to tune that puppy and check the carb sync etc.
-
There is a 2002 RSV for sale at Bob Lunsfords Honda on I45 in Houston, Tx for $5995 and I just confirmed that it is still there. If anyone is interested, I can check it out or, you can call them at 888-788-2037 and perhaps they will send pictures. Feel free to contact me if interested.

Chroming abs plastic
jburrell replied to dlhoulton's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I talked a while back with a Mr G"s that does this type of work. They use "Vaccum Metallization" rather than just chrome paint ect. If you used this it is supposed to be better than just chrome painting and you would not ahve to use the K&N air filters. However, what you have to remember is that every time you wipe down this piece, it is going to remove some of the "chrome" no matter what method you use. Mr "G"'s is in Ft Worth Texas and they do a ton of Classic Car work ( door handles knobs etc). Went by there back in early 90's for my classic 63 Impala SS convertible restore. You might want to try looking him up on the web then give him a call and prehaps send them a picture of the part. Then get a idea of what they can do. I thought about this my self but, have been too busy with clutch problems. Just got the 99 back from the stealership Sat. Hope this helps jb -
Well, I am not sure there is a restraunt in Rock Springs. There is a lot of rocks though as well as Mohair sheep. Need a good Mohair sweater check out the local stores. Not much else in Rocksprings. Have a good trip. There is a small Mountain (hill) that I used to go over to get three from Sonora that crossed a river and you actually drive thru the water. it was a fun ride up and down though. Have a great time but lookout for the deer and Turkeys as they cross the rode a lot there. Had several times that Turkeys just missed my truck windshield when I was up that way.

Heat to the bolt shrinks the bolt slightly. Heat to the flywheel shrinks the flywheel. Cold expands items. Hope it works out for you.
-
I vote for Medina TX in early/mid OCT to avoid the heat. Medina is closer to the 3 sisters and perhaps we can all rent cabins in one camp. Some camps accomodate as many as 8 people and many are on the river.

I have had the ride on in my bike for a week. NOt sure how good it is yet except for a racing show ( on ice). You only need 8oz per tire. Sure looked good racing on ice with screws. Give it a try.

Gas leaking out of vent tube
jburrell replied to waterbug's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
is the gas in the front of the engine or at the back where the overflows for the carbs etc are located. Maybe a difference in troubleshooting depending on location of the flow. I believe there is a overflow for the carbs too. -
Chrome Polishers are we???? I'll have you know that I have only bought 14 pieces of chrome for my ride so far!! Gotta have more chrome..more chrome... LOL.!! ...I do really need to polish them too!! Just didn't have time this past weekend due to oil change/ adding ride on/ checking bolts etc Saturday. Maybe Sunday I can get out the old chrome polish and get to work on my chrome and I add the new front fender chrome that should arrive tomorrow. Gonna eat a REALLY big steak Saturday on my ride. 40oz sirloin Mumm good. Glan you like the site!! Use is wisely and share with others. Hint: You can right click on the map and add the site to your path or you can drag the path to your next stop or move an existing path to another path. Lots of ways to play with it. Add it to your gps??

For those that don't know here is a great place you can "MAP" out a planned trip. It is great for setting up group rides and you can use it to determine where you will need to gas up and where you need to turn to get to that "twisty" road your dying to ride. You can save the rides and share them with friends etc. http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.com/rideplanner/ridePlanner.jsp?locale=en_US Enjoy,

Owen, I'd like to go but cant this weekend. Hope it works out for you. How about a ride next weekend (Sommerville for really really big Steaks)? Wife not feeling well this week. We could go through Navasota and Independence (ghost town) Tx on the way with some great riding roads. Have a great time.

Hearing click...but not starting. Help!
jburrell replied to Semi-retired's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wow, You already know what the weather is going to be like in your area on thanksgiving weekend!!! You must have great weathermen/women in your area. I am in South East TExas and even if we don't have winter any more I still can't get a forcast that far out so that I can ride on perfect weekends. LOL Hope you find your issue before it leaves you stranded. -
I leave mine unbolted. It ain't going anywhere while I'm sitting on it. You can just leave it bolted with the one bolt that is still there. Why worry.....just ride and have a good time. Not a lot of seat thefts nowadays that I am aware of.
