Wouldn't start. Its probably the battery but.. You will also get a similar issue with the ignition switch. IF the fuel pump powers up its most likely your battery. I had an issue with the ignition and the lights radio and acces worked but the fuel pump did not run and the bike would not fire up. I guess the real question is....If you jump[ start it does it work??? That would be the first TS I used to determine the starting point. If it starts with a jump you are not getting enough juice due to battery conditions...corossion, connections or a bad battery.I have a weak battery and if I run my driving lights without ocassionally putting my 99 on the tender I only get one chance to start it before I get the clicking that tells me I am going to need to jump start the bike. Just not ready to buy a new battery yet. Hope it works out for you

Cruise Control issue
jburrell replied to jburrell's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There is no glue on that side. The throttle slide holds the Kurykan grip on. Just cant understand what changed. I took off the switch and put it back on and it only has a couple of screws in it. There is nothing in the way for the set part of the switch. I was wondering if this has happened before and perhaps there was a way to "unstick" it. thanks for the thought -
Hey Crash, Loved your bike. Sorry you can't keep it. I was wonder ing how you added the lights to the bag guards. Is there a posting or more pictures/info on what you did to make them look so good? Thanks for the info and take care of yourself.

Cruise Control issue
jburrell replied to jburrell's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I took the switch back apart thinking I had it in a bind but, even with the switch off the handle bars, the black toggle will not toggle inwards on the bottom ( setting curise). I did not have it in a bind and it does not appear there is an issue with screws hitting it. The black switch is mounted into the housing but, there has to be a reasonn it suddenly stopped me from setting speed. The top half of the switch (resume), still works fine but, of course there is no speed to resume to. When I had it open the other day, I took a look and considered trying to take the black switch out of the housing but, then decided not to unless forced since it also has flashers/starter and kill built into it. Any suggestions anyone? Your input/assistance is appreciated. -
Ok, I have a small problem and I'm sure I'm not the first to experience this. I added new grips to my bike about a month ago. Now when I try to set my CControl the switch will not let me use it to SET the speed. I can use the top part that is for Resume and the bottom cancel works but when I push on the part that should be for "set" speed it wont go in at all. I took the switch housing back apart thinking I had a screw too tight or something but even off the switch still would not let me push in on the bottom part that "sets" your cruise. Any ideas? Am I gonna have to get a new switch?

Has anyone used their HF lift to change the rear tire?
jburrell replied to Midrsv's topic in Watering Hole
Mine works great. I have had my bike all the way up and its as stable as can be. Be sure to work safely and have somone assist you. Perhaps strap the bike to the lift and be sure and lock the stabilization knobs all the way down to hold the lift firmly in place. -
IF you bike had that few miles then I am going to guess it has set up "A LOT". You need to clear out some of that old gas that is affecting your riding. Get a can of "SeaFoam" gas additive and run it with a tank of gas. You may have to do this twice before most of it clears up. You probably need the carbs synced too. These bikes need to be taken out and rode hard once in awhile and you need to keep the revs up on them. AT fifty you need to be in 4th. Check with the local Stealership and see about your warranty it should be transferrable. Perhaps others could answer that question for you.

Jump on it and take it slow to start off with. Think about your safety and forget about what you heard. Ride very carefully when going really slow. Use the "friction zone" riding while going slow. I bought a Venture 6 months ago and had no problems when I started riding it despite the fact that I had not ridden since 1984. I took the MSFC and that helped with the concers over a "big" bike. Teh Venture rides great but you need to learn "How it handles" at various speeds. Get a copy of the "Ride like a Pro " DVD and use the info you find there to ride safely. Since you already had a bike you most likely know all that anyway. Just get on be safe and have a good time. :happy34::happy34::happy34:

Broke a bolt today!!!
jburrell replied to hairman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Can't answer for the type of bolt but it seems to me as long as its the correct metric bolt it should be ok. However, check with squidley or freebird. I do believe the torque specs are in Inch pds not foot pounds. OF course Ihave been wrong before and don't have the specs in front of me. -
Login to paypal and submit a complaint. They will help you get the part or money back. I did this with a person in China and they got me a refund before I even sent back the item.

16K Mile maintenence...How Much?
jburrell replied to Richb's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well, perhaps you don't need to be a mechanic. Lots of people here willing to assist you. Perhaps someone in your area will help and you can trade for their help. You know how to buy beer right?????? Got any skills you can trade?? Do you know how to BBQ? A good BBQ with beer will bring a lot of us over. Attend a Maintenance Day. Your not gonna overhaul the bikejust tune it and change fluids. -
Well it sounds like I need to look into the plug issue. I won't get a chance for a day or two but I will get back with what I found but from what you say it sounds like one of the plugs. Thanks for the advice. That is why I love this site and all these nice people. Now if more of us can just meet and have a good time. Thanks all :dancefool:

Well its probably a good thing I am planning a MD soon. This morning I headed down the road and was concerned about the weather and I felt wetness and it was antifreeze on my r leg. It seems I may have a leak somewhere in the front near the radiator as the water/antifreeze hit me calf level down on the right leg only. It was not a lot and I managed to turn around and get back home with no aissues. Funny thing was the water/AF was never even hot on my leg. I guess I will need to take a very good look to see if I can tell where the leak is and hope its a hose and not the radiator. I did not realise it but, this may have happened last friday as I saw a silver substance on the r sid e engine but could not tell where it came from ant though perhaps it was something someone spilled passing by. I had not ridden since then due to work around the house etc. This time when I returned home I noticed the antifreeze seems to turn silver on the engine. Does that souond right??. If anyone has experienced this let me know what you found. I am hoping this is just an upper hose that just decided to let go.. Now time to go back to the drawing and see where those hoses etc are located and how to get to them.

Insurance Value
jburrell replied to Jersey Devil's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
ASk the company. Typically on a classic or antique car the classic/antique ins is cheaper becasue they feel you value the antique more and don't use them as everyday drivers. However, typically there is a mileage limit and you cannot drive it to work or shopping only to "exercise it" and take it to shows. You can usually get an agreed value coverage with this type of coverage very cheeplywhere both of you agree on the value of the bike and if its totaled that is what they pay period. No depreciation etc. I had 5 classic/antique cars and I had full coverage on my 33 Plymouth Street Rod of $25k for $132 year with zero deductible.. Mileage was limited to 2000 plus exercise miles and I exercised her often. Ask them a lot of questions. -

Used Parts question
jburrell replied to Hazenson's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Check on ebay for a PINWALL CYCLES as the seller. They salvage bikes and if you contact them or check their site you will find what you need. Here is the web address for them. I have bought several items there at decent price. www.pinwallcycle.com -
Main switch removal
jburrell replied to Gunner1945's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Consider putting in the switch by-pass that Freebird wrote about. I inatalled one when my switch started going bad and I ended up using it for 2 months until I could replace the switch. I put a toggle switch just behing the battery where i could reach under the seat and turn on the ignition part of the bike. Put some electrical lube cleaner on the switch while you have it out. Hope it all works out -
I can't verify this happened by bkie or truck as I recieved the photos in an email from another biker. either way it's a big bear and proves Road Hazards come in many sizes so 'BEWARE" pun intended. ' jb

This grizzly was hit by a Harley on Lolo Pass. This is the pass between Lolo , MT and Kooskia , ID . .Look at the claws on that sucker! the biker made it thru three days in the hospital! The hog's a wreck! lesson learned : Don't go Bear Hunting with a Harley, they don't last but one bear !!!!!!!!!!

June 69. What a great year. Acutally, the 70's weren't bad either. Oh, I'm still trapped with the same person. LOL Wouldn't trade her for a New Venture.
-
Aee worth ?? I am the same size as you and I love my Venture. Go to a dealer and tel them you need a ride.I have a 99 and would not trade if for a GW. That being said the Venture is a big bike just like the wings coming in at 840+ lbs. Maint isn't hard and all, and these things are rock stable. I am currently holding a Maint Day at my house in a few weeks and if you check the site, there are several around the country as these bikes aren't that hard to work on. Almost anything can be done by the rider with proper guidance and tools. ( available on this site)The ride is superb, handling excellent, and the acceleration/speed is great. There is lot of accessories including back rest available. I have the utopia back rest which sits about half way up my back and is great for long rides as I lean back into it and kick my feet up on the Kurykan highway pegs with the radio/mp3 player going. The speakers could use an upgrade but are adequate and not hard to replace. Get yourself one and joing us at the National in August at the HUB in Marble Falls Arkansas. Hope this helps.
