How Fast Can Ride Comfortably
jburrell replied to jfoster's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
What are you riding?? I like my windshield tall while others cut theirs down just enough to see over it for for and rain. You get less buffeting with the taller windshield. The clearview is great becasue we can open the vent and get air that way. I don't have buffeting on my 99RSV with the Tall Clearview even at 80mph. Just me 2c. -
GAS mileage question
jburrell replied to knifeeven's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have a 99RSV and I have added the rk mufflers and synch'd the carbs but still get only 35mpg but...I can't seem to keep my hands off the gas. Like to juice it ocassionally and this affects the mileage I am sure. I can go to 175 before the engine cuts out and I need to go to reserve. My last tanks was 35 mpg based on 175miles and I filled exactly 5gal. The bike runs fine but I can only get over 35mpg if I ride freeway only and I was once getting 39 when I took long freeway rides. Of course I have 40 lights/stop sighs between my house and work with only 8 mils of 21 being freeway. Job is moving to that freeway next year and then I just have to drive the 8 miles to work . Wooo Hooo. I am going to Kerrville then end of next month and will not have hardly any lights or stop signs and want to check mileage then. Have a great week all. -
I will want a ticket too. Nice looking bike. I want it to give away to my son.

Car engine oil for the RSV ?
jburrell replied to FL-Venture-Rider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Use the Rotella Synthetic save the extra bucks for gas. Why are you having the pads changed by someone else. Go get some pads and do it your self. There are articles here on how to change the pads and take it from me its not that hard and can be done quickly. thanks to users here on this site I was able to change my pads and I had never done it before. (thanks Lowell etc). If you have questions just chech the tech article sections or PM me and I''ll be glad to walk you through it. I'll pm you my phone number if you need it. You would save quite a lot on the brake job. Get the HH sinstered pads for the bike. Feel free to ask if you need assistance. -
I have only been a member since last July but, I have to say that I think this is the BEST bike site I have ever used. I am not sure what all the gripe is about paying a membership fee is about. I visit this site almost everyday and I must admit I have made several donations to the site because THIS SITE SAVES ME MONEY AND HELPS ME WHEN I NEED HELP. I have met quite a few good people here and everyone I have met has been very helpful when I needed help. I donated to the site originally because I knew that the site saved me from having to pay the Stealership. I am going to pay my new membership Happily AND I am going to continue to donate EVERYTIME this site saves me money. If you are saving money what is it really costing you??? If you are not here to share info, help and learn and make friends why are you here? Have you used the tech articles to overcome and issue...you saved money Have you used the site to ask someone how to resolve an issue...you saved money Have you used the site to find out how to install an item...you saved money Have you used the site to find others to ride with and have a good experience What is that worth????? Several times I have had to work on my bike and when I posted questions here on the site, someone always has the answer for me on how to resolve my issuethereby preventing me from going to the stealership. Freebird has responded to every request for assistance even if it was just pointing me to the right information. Many others have responed to my various postings and emails and for that I thank them and Freebird. Sites like this don't run themselves and they are by no means free. It takes equipment, utilites, bandwidth and lots of time. Pay your membership fee and be Happy you can find a site like this and hope it doesn't go away. Pay a little when you find the site has saved you money. There is no minimum donation button. If you save $50/$100 or more because of Freebirds efforts (this site) reward him with a donation again. $1.00 $2.00 $5.00 etc all adds up. Freebird, I wish you well and I hope that you get better soon. :sign cmon: Just do the right thing!!!

If you ordered the one for motorcycles you can place it in any bag or in the fairing. I have mine inside my r saddle bad and never had a problem. I was told by the ez tag office that the motorcycle ones had a larger radio signal. Not sure but I have not recieved any notices and I have been using mine since July last year. Mine is stuck to the inside of the lid of the right bag. This is for Houston EZ tag so yours may be different be sure to check with the EZ tag store in your area.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE. I recently lost my cb antenna and Owen was kind enough to give me his. However, his antenna seems to have a different mount and I need to change the whole antenna instead of just the top half. I looked under the trunk and I can see the cable going into the cb box but how do I go about unplugging the cable as it seems to be up inside the box.? DO i need to uninstall the trunk or is there a way to lower the cb unit easily ETC? Thanks for assistance in advance. jb BTW I met Jesus yesterday in Houston Jesus the new Venture Rider in Houston that is. Seems he is a lurker here. He just got a new 2007 Venture in Janurary. Says he will start posting here this week. He is looking for a slightly shorter windshield for his 2007. He has a sweet ride.

MegaMax Gel Battery
jburrell replied to BigMark7's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, I got my new MegaMax Gel Battery installed in my 99RSV and it fit perfect. I got everything hooked back up and the bike started right up. One thing that is good it that it has 4 post. Nice if you have a lot of accessories to hook up. Bad item was that the post are lowered at each corner and is not flush with the top of the battery. When i went to install my positive cable I had to cut off a small slice of the conttector to get it to fit in the positive terminal location. Not a big thing, just that the original positive connector is twice as wide as my neg connector which casued no issues. I connedted the main lines to the front terminals and my LED and tender to the back connectors. THE battery seems to ahve good cranking amps at 320 and if I remember correctly is rated for 17ah. The battery is a perfect fit in the battery case and I have no other issues so far. Now to see how long it last. -
I got my LINED CHAPS from leatherup.com and found that they were the wrong size. Shipping is only $7.95 in US and they paid for the return and shipped me the new onesw at no extra charge. They guarantee satisfaction. I paid $39.95. I wore them riding in 35 degree tem and the kept me comfortable. I also have a heave duty ALL Leather jacket with stars n bars on it that cost me $69. It has removable liner and it very warm for our winter down here in the south. I was very satisfied with all 3 purchases I have made there. Just my

Back in 69 when you could buy a really nice running Camaro I took my girlfriend from Houston to Galveston on prom nite. At about 1 AM coming back to Houston from Galveston I came beside a 55 chevy that wanted to race. (You could just tell). We wound them up all the way and I buried the speedo on the Camaro that had a 327 with 350HP. We ran that way for about 20 miles and as I reached Pasadena Tx., (just south of Houston) I slowed down as the 55 got off the freeway and about 5 miles later I got pulled over for doing 60 in a 50 at 1AM. When the office walked up and asked that question I said. "Sir I was only doing 60 and this freeways speed limit is 60 here. He let me know I had entered "Pasadena Tx" and that the speed limit on "Their" section of the freeway was just 50. I laughed and said ok give me the ticket, thinking but you shoulda seen me 5 minutes ago. As he delivered me the ticket me and my girlfriend jsut started laughing and then drove off. Haven't gotten many tickets since then though. But I am known to be an aggressive driver. Attached is a picture of my last ride I sold last year when I decided to start 2 wheeling it. Sometimes I still miss it.

Also all the metal will eventually rust out quickly becasue salt water is in everything that had a pinhole opening and salt water is on every hidden creavice. Resell it as part by part is the only thing it is good for and then your gonna get bad resuklts. My opion is "Run Forrest run". LOL

It is probalbly best to check with the local ADA or DA that is handling your case. They would have all the info and would be the most likely to share some information if the lead detective isn't. Most likely this is the only one who will discuss the case.

I jsut installed the horn on the orig location. Do not install in the fairing. You need the sound of the horn to be pointed down or clost to pavement so sound can "bounce" to be effective. My old air horns were under saddle bags and pointed backwards and therefor were not effective in warning people in front of me. Setbel says you reallyneed the sound to bounce and vibrate off somethng. It is easy to intall where the old horn goes. INstructions and a bracket from Carbon one are here on this site. I would put the one you have parhaps low on the l side of the bike and then get the chrome for the left side. You will know for sure then that they hear you and its a good investment. I started with the chrome one and will add the other in a couple of months when I have a few $$ again. Hope this helps

I think ATlantaDragonSlayer has the right idea. Forget the REWARD we need to alert all the media we can including RiderGroups, Magazines, Partiot guards etc. Get a list of every type of Motorcycle group in the area and sent them all the inof. Let them disseminate the ionfo throughout ECKS area. Perhaps a local big wig will be in one of the clubsand can push on local media or law enforement. I would also suggest checking the local Meetup.com list of local motorcycle meeting groups and email them all the info too so that more people are looking for a Blue Mustang Year model supplied by ECK. It is in their interest to look for him.Lots of people can stop and just send info to xxxxxxemail. Again condiser trying to get a list of all owners of Blue Mustangs in the area. This type of list is not expensive. Then request the DA check thru DMV to pull up pictures of the owner. The local DA needs to be inolved.Alternately check with a local lawyer about suing the owner and perhaps the attorney can have someone provide a list of owners and use dmv to get pictures. IF the DA will no do it perhaps members of the local riding chapters will take a phone picture of the owners if they see someone in a blue mustang. IF you have a local newspaper tell them. If you have a local cable channel try to get them to take the story. Guys it may be too much for ECK to do on his on and at this point he may not have the desire yet, therefore if your in the Huntsville Al area you can choose to let the other groups know about this and solicit their help. Remind them we know what the owner looks like and are just trying to find him and the car to turn over for prosecution. I am in for the donation if ECK decides to accept. He can use if for ANYTHING HE DESIRES. :2cents:

Here in Houston its $6k to join. You gotta buy a lotta stuff to make that up. They also use hard hard sell when your there. Kinda like a time share sell. :sign **** happens:

I ordered this battery today. From what I can see it has the most AH and the most CCA at 320. I decided I would give it a try since I am having a battery issue. The price is right for a battery with its AH and CCA. I will let you all know how it is when I get a change to try it out some.

Check meetup.com search on motorcycle and you will most likely find all kind of riders.
-
I would cetrainly try Rideon in those tires to prevent flats. Even if you get a dozen nails in the tore it won't go flat as long as the nails aren't in the sides.
-
NO special tools. On the brakes just 2 bolts to remove. I did my back and front with just a socket, pliers to force the pistons back in and a pair of needle nose pliers to get out the small clips that holds the rods that holds both pads in the caliper. Check the tec section for more info. I used the sisntered HH pads.
