A friend and I were coming back from Daytona Bike week back in the early 80's. A turkey flying across took my buddy off his bike like he had been clothes lined. Damm near killed him, was about a hour before we even had a Highway patrolman and ambulance show up.

Looks like we will be flying out to Seattle and catching a ship for an Alaska cruise in June. With the bike I am working on making Cody but we will see. If we don't make Cody then Estes Park or Santa-Fe New Mexico for sure.

I have bought a three refurb units from www.getfeetwet.com they are great to deal with and you will have it in a couple of days. They are a Garmin dealer and the refurbs I have gotten from them have all been like new units and all have worked perfectly. Thay have a full 1year warranty just like new units. Their customer service is first class and on of the best internet companies I have ordered from. Here is a link to a 550 for $579.99 http://www.getfeetwet.com/products/SKU-010-N0567-00-Exclusive--Garmin-Zumo-550-MotorCycle-GPS-with-One-Year-Manufacturer-Warranty-(Factory-Refurb)__010-N0567-00.aspx

leather & helmet saved my skin-Kevlar better?
Bvinson replied to dharnie's topic in Safety and Education
The Gusset Jeans have Kevlar in them also. The gusset gives the boys a little more breathing room. http://www.gussetjeans.com/defender_inside_out/ And to boot they use a Yammie in their ad. -
Engine Noise in Headsets
Bvinson replied to Hotrod's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Split the front fairing and apply dielectric grease to the round black connectors located inside. Pull them apart grease the pins and put them back together. I even wrap mine at the connection with electrical tape. They tend to get pulled on when you move the handle bars from left to right. If that doesn't stop it try removing the tank and re-route the wires. I think there is a write up here on the site about the procedure. -
Slipping Clutch...I'm Stumped!
Bvinson replied to a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just a guess but maybe to much fluid in the master cylinder. If it is over filled as you ride the fluid heats up and expands. This can cause pressure in the line and make the slippage you describe. -
Mine also just expired in my new truck. To make a long story short I just did not get around to renewing it for about 3 or 4 weeks. Then out of the blue I get an email from XM wanting me back. I renewed for 2 years at $67 dollars a year.

"Works" makes a replacement. Do a search on this site and you will find everything you need to know.

If you have added the running lights on your bike you may want to run them off of a relay. That will help some of the ignition switch load.

I pop the pistons out each time I pull the rear wheel for any work (Pads or tire change). I wire brush them and put them back in.

Ed sets used to make an earbud system. I have them in my Full coverage helmets and love them also. If you haven't heard the ear buds you don't know what your missing.

Another item that should be on your person/bike is a medical information form. It could save your life or someone riding with you. Here is a link to the one posted in the Saftey Section. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2993 If you would like to read a short article on why it is important click on the link below. http://safetycenter.navy.mil/media/seashore/issues/spring06/ride_to_IBR.htm

I tried to buy a couple of helmets from them a few years back. Never shipped, I called after a week or so and was told they were backordered with no fill date. I picked another set of helmets with the same results. From the first order to finally getting my money back was a little over a month. Not to mention a lot of hassle and phone calls. Needless to say I don't deal with them any longer. Who knows, maybe I just caught them at a bad time.
