5 wire for a radio shack will work but it must be rewired. I'm thinking that the GE radios are already wired correctly. It has been about 6 years since I wired one of those, if I can find the one I wired I'll send it to you if you pay the freight. If I can't find it I'll compare the wiring on the bike to known radios and find one that will either work as is or with minimal rewiring

Pull the coax plug from the splitter. Check the center conductor against the outer conductor for a dead electrical short . If it is not shorted plug it directly into the stereo and advise if then the stereo will receive an FM signal. If it is shorted to ground remove the antenna from the mount and make sure the insulators are in place correctly

Track my travels via GPS spotter...live!

How much $$$? -
Have you plans finalized yet? Routes? Post'em up so possibly a few of us could join you for a short bit
-
If you decide to foray down into central Ky the wife and I would ride along with you a bit, ride to Natural Bridge, or Red River Gorge if you wished. She injured her knee a couple weeks back and still is not hobbling around so good, so our riding would likely be limited to a couple hundred miles or less.

Wow, that is truly the beginning of the end for an era. Watched the Delta Queen and "that other boat", you know the one from Louisville, do the "tall stacks race" many years ago. What an awesome sight ,sound and smell fest that was. Oh, in that last picture, the one where you can see lots of people milling around on top deck, guess who, yep thats right, thats not me amongst any of those people, I cannot afford the fare either.

Clutch noise in neutral
Bob Myers replied to CptKirk's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My 86 does it too. I just returned from a 3400 mile turn to Salt Lake and back, noise is no louder nor less louder than it was when I left. -
I thought a friend was going to buy my Alinco Dx-70th but he backed out so now I have no funds to buy with. Care to talk trade?
-
I have Alinco Ht on both of our Vulcans, was using the factory rubber duck with a minimum of effectiveness. Found a 4' glass antenna made by firestick, cut for 2m. My effective range is about 8 times what it was! I can hit my local repeater on 5 watts at about 35 air miles. Best I ever did with the duck ,mounted on the bars was about 4 miles. Ordered another one to install on the Venture.

I drove for 12 years, having my own trucks and driving for other O/O, I had never seen or heard of such a thing until now! Wish this had been available back in the 70's and 80's

So, whats the yellow hose all about?
-
As a test bed I did build a brace for the 86 and installed it before i went to Salt Lake. Not knowing what I really wanted to end up with I made it extra thick, app 2" and drilled it on top for mounting driving lights, I'll get a picture of it and send it to you. I need to take it off and thin it down about 3/4 inch, and put a radius on the rear. I do believe it helped considerably at road speed, but not much at parking lot speed.

May be laughed out for you, I did say there are no scratches on my helmet, so no scratches to use as identifier, nor was a sticker referred to. When I was shaping the inside of my helmet to properly fit my oblong head i nicked the lining in 2 places. Now if my helmet were stolen and I told the police what to look for and where to look that would be solid identification.Unless you unsnap the removable part of the lining you would never know it to be there. I was returned a transmission that was stolen from me simply by testifying to the bead of weld I told the investigating officer about. That stood up in court
-
You mean you could not tell someone an identifying mark on yours? I have a near new helmet, never been dropped, no scratches and always stored in the bag but i can tell you two things about it that would be a perfect identifier. My old helmet would take hours to accurately describe

Eck has outlined a really cool ride. We've dona all he suggests, just not all on the same trip. His ride may take 3 days if you are like us and don't tarry at one point long. As also mentioned, go north first if possible, you can then turn and run south if need be. ASheville NC is still good weather at that time, the Biltmore is always a great way to waste several hours

That is not a lot of miles, until you throw in a couple hours of touristy things like stopping and looking. It is still daylight for 12 hours or more so it only averages 45mph

Boost/Pressure sensor
Bob Myers replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When i was synching the carbs i had that unhooked, I actually took it for a ride with it disconnected and the vacuum port plugged. it was very sluggish and popped more in the carbs than it had been previously. Could that mean it is working OK? As for the fuel mileage; I looked at my log book for the trip to Salt Lake last week. One tank i was just cruising around on a mountain pass, riding alone, for the first 60 miles I never got over 50mph, and the rest of the 166 miles on that tank I was on I80 with cruise on at 75mph. Went 166 miles, refuel was 3.9 gallons. Most of my trip was 80-90mph and 140-150miles used 4.4-4.7 gallons. Speed sure kills the mileage.- 25 replies

What else will I need to finish this?
Bob Myers replied to GigaWhiskey's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
left controller appears to be the same, just check the turn indicator plug. There was a cb/class holder on ebay last week, don't think it sold so watch for a relist. -

Will this not working properly have a negative effect on fuel mileage? my bike used to do 48-50 all the time, it now struggles to get 42mpg- 25 replies

Backfire problem 1987 Venure XVZ13DT
Bob Myers replied to CptKirk's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My 86 sat for a long time with gasoline and no conditioner in it. When I started riding it a few weeks ago it did the same as you describe. Flat spot at about 1/3 throttle, another flat spot around 2800-3k no matter where the throttle was. I ran Klutz fuel additive through it, about half a can on the first tank and the rest of the can on the second tank. During the second tank it started clearing up and idle was higher each time I stopped(when i picked it up the idle was so low it would chug and die so I idled it up a bit). After finally getting the idle back down and running a second can through just for good measure all the popping in the exhaust and backfiring in the carbs has stopped. Backfiring in the carb is indicative of lean and popping in exhaust is indicative of raw fuel dumped in the chamber. My take on that is at least 2 of my carbs were messing up, one fat and one lean. After a very quick 3400 mile ride(4 days) it is as smooth as it was when it was ridden every day. -

If you want to do a medium pace country road ride I'd be happy to accompany you. Sunday would work best for me

The law did not specifically say "sportbikes" , it includes ALL 2 wheel motor vehicles. believe you are getting bound up a little on the words. I'm neither for nor against this law because I do obey speed laws, as much as the next guy, and i do keep my wheels in firm contact with the pavement, when possible. And as already reported the wrecks and such are already declining so maybe it is a little over the top but it does show some merit.
