Wish there were half as many people in my area as gung-ho as you guys. I really do hate to ride alone but I do go places quicker. The only guy in my area willing to ride like this can only get away once every year or so.

SOunds like the bike is leaning a little to the left. Not knowing how your hack is setup but I would think there is a link to adjust vertical attitude of the bike, adjust it so the bike is leaning 1 more degree towards the hack and see if it does it as bad.

I don't think you opened a can of worms here, quite the contrary! I was blown away that Michael Kneebone would jump on the explanation so fast, even more impressed he sent it to me and ask I share it with the folks on this board. My opinion of him went up several notches for sure with that. I know a couple guys who have met him and they say nothing but how great and fair this guy is in his IBA dealings. I don't think I have ever been a part of a discussion where the entity or the leader themself though that a personal reply was warranted. Major, major Kudos to Michael. Now then, Dave hang in there I know you'll get your turn.

I just got an email from Michael Kneebone concerning this IBA speed and such. Here is a copy/paste of what he sent me; Bob, Do you know what his (Gregg - no last name but if it is Mathis then yes, MTF ride - see below) ride is? We do them in order, but yes, there are some groups that meet our documentation requirements up-front (MTF comes to mind as number 1) that do get through quicker because we have a lot less work on those (and have a small group that audits nothing but group rides). If you could let the board know that is an advantage of an MTF ride, IBA members are on hand to do a review of the ride so it saves countless hours later on. Thanks! I surmise this so say the group rides, and MTF(Motorcycle Tourer Forum) are given priority and every thing else is taken in the order it was received. With Greg doing a group he had preferential treatment over Dave. At least that is my take on this.

No, they aren't supposed to wear out! My 96 F250 has 301,125 miles on it, original rear shoes, only on second set pads on front. They last forever if you don't use them.

You got yours pretty fast. Must have had class "A" documentation. Last year mine took from August to end of December to come. Fellow that rode with me didn't even submit his until January, got his at the end of March. Must be the Fall rush?

In todays hurry up world people just don't take the time to do or get things 100% right Looking at this from the prospective of the battery seller; if you come in to my place of business wanting a battery for your bike, what will be your reaction if I tell you"Pay for it now, come back in 8-12 hours when it is fully charged"? Most people will not wait and the seller cannot afford to have one of every battery filled and charged ready to go. A battery may sit on the shelf for 6 months before sold, if it were filled and charged it will have begun to sulfate, shortening the life expectancy even more than riding off on a partially charged battery. If you are not in a hurry for it then I have made an impression on you that I want this to be the best battery you can buy. If you are in a hurry you'll think I'm an idiot for telling you this. Your idea of filling and charging it yourself is the best, given that today most parts houses have underpaid and under-trained sales people, as do lots of other service venues.

When I encountered a recurring problem with my Vulcan in 98 I was informed Ky excluded them. I'll buy my next new one in Ohio!

Ok, I'll remember that! I was presuming with my calc that something should be there but not knowing what I just called it a "theoretical rpms" .

OK, I'll bite. Why 3%? Would this vary with the amount of weight on the rear tire and pressure in the tire? Why choose 3% as a number? In the given parameters above that only equates to 102 rpms

60 was chosen intentionally because I had not thought through far enough to arrive at what you did. I knew that wheel rpms at 60 would be same as 1 mile/ 1minute With your even more simple formula I can now be assured that between the 3 metods of calculating presented here that I can get my theoretical engine rpm, since they all agree!

Using your formula and inserting the primary ratio you left out I get a final answer of 3395.8, which is pretty close to what I came up with. I spose this formula would work well enough with any speed to use it to prove or disprove a gear change.

My reasoning on the 790 is, 25.5 diameter gives us 790.9 revolutions in a mile, and at 60 mph the 790.9 would also be the rpm of the rear tire.

To get actual engine crankshaft rpm you need to figure in the reduction of the primary drive too. What is the 336 number? This is on a kawasaki and kawi claims the rpm should be about 2950 at this speed.

Trying to calculate the engine rpm of a bike at a given speed. Constants I know are, primary drive ratio(2.184), 5th gear ratio(.857od), final drive ratio(17/39=2.294), tire diameter(25.5=790 revs per mile). So, would it be as simple as 2.184x.857= 1.8716x2.294=4.293x 790(tire rev at 60 mph)=3391rpms?

I ran 18 wheeler in that area for 12 years, that was before they 4laned it! Easy ride. Just what route do you plan to run to get to Pigeon Forge. 25 won't take you there, but you obviously know this.

5 times for me, in the middle of one now. Chills with no fever, intense urge to urinate, and only dribble, pain about 25 times what it was when I was in a car wreck and crushed my jaw and upper mandible. Any one want to go riding? 5 or so hydro;s and I'm ready

The one that belonged to a buddy of mine, had sat in his garage for 9 years with only 1700 miles? I sold it to a young man in Cincinnati and have kept up with him since the sale. I'm sure most of you are similar in that something you worked on and spent a lot of time to make it as perfect as possible,, well it becomes part of your life, part of your sack full of life experiences. I received an email from him last night, and I knew from the title that it was not going to be good at the end of the story. The RSTD was ran over by a motorist, Ned( the owner) was standing beside bike. Any way here is the story he sent me; So last Saturday while I was at work my little brother showed up and told me that my Dad and him were trying to get ahold of me but I wasn't answering my phone. He told me that my Dad's bike had broken down and that he was stranded on the side of River Road about 10 mins. from where we were currently at. I decided to try and get a truck with ramps so we could at least get his bike off of the road. In the process of setting this up he called at stated that my Aunt was going to bring her truck with a ramp and my grandpa to help get it loaded up. I figured this was no big deal and just told my brother to go back and help, and to call me if they needed anything else. About fifteen mins later I received a call from my Dad asking me where my brother was, I told him that he had left me about fifteen mins ago and that he should have been back to him by now. We were both a little worried and decided to give him five more mins to show up or else I would drive back down River Road to make sure he wasn't broken down too. Needless to say, he did not show up to my dad so I left to check and see if I could find him. I made it about seven miles on my motorcycle when I noticed my gas light was on and decided to fill up now jusr in case i had to make another trip back to look for my brother. I then caled my Dad back and he stated that he had just got off the phone with my bother and he was at home because he didn't see dad and figured my aunt had already picked him up. He couldn't call to check because he was on his motorcycle and his phone was dead on top of that, so he just went home. I then decided to go ahead and meet up with my Dad to help him load his bike into the back of the truck. I went the remaining mile down the road and saw my Aunt's truck with the hazzard lights flashing and I pulled over to help. We pulled the ramp out of the bed of the truck and we quickly realized that the ramp was way to steep and narrow to push the bike up. We decided to go and get a small trailer instead, and her and my dad started to close the tailgate of the truck. At this time I turned around to go get my cell phone out of my saddle bag and I saw headlights coming down the emergency lane. I figured it was another family member or even a cop stopping to help us out however, I noticed that the car was coming way to fast. Next thing I know the car smashed into my motorcycle which was about 50 or 60 ft away from the truck at what I could guess to be about 50 MPH. My bike was thrown towards me and i jumped out of the way and into the road just in time to miss being hit by the car, i screamed for my family to look out as all of this was happening. All I heard was crushing metal and glass breaking and a loud bang which I assume was the car hitting my Dad's bike, then another bang as I turned my head. I got turned around just in time to see the car smash into the back of my Aunt's truck. I figured that with everything happening in such a violent and fast manner that the worst thing had just hapened and that I was going to find my family crushed between the truck and car. I ran towards the truck and car screaming for a response from somebody and was hearing nothing, as I got around the car i saw my Dad getting himself off the ground and limping really bad. I then heard my Aunt yell and saw my Grandpa coming over the gaurd rail. A passerby stopped as we were dialing 911 and ststed that they saw the whole thing and were on with emergency services as well. The next few mins are kinda of jumbled up with nothing much more than yelling, and screaming about what the hell just happened and making sure everyone was ok, the cops and EMT's started showing up. While talking to my Dad he stated that he had heard me yell and that he immediately knew what was going on withou exlanation, and turned around just in time to see mine and his bike hit him in the thigh knocking him under the truck. The truck was then hit and he was no longer under the truck as it went forward about 15ft after impact. He receved about a 1.5 in gash on his shin that needed - stitches and a bruised up thigh. My Aunt was struck in the same fashion by the motorcycles but more in the knee and received minor cuts and bruises on her feet and legs from all of the glass. My Grandpa and I were unharmed, just extremely shook up as well. But wait, there is more! The old man who just smashed into us had broken out of a hospital he was commited to for dimentia, and stole the car that he just smashed us with. How could I make that up? The guy never even hit the breaks. Today we went to look at the damage and realized that my dad and aunt missed being crushed by the bikes and the car by a space that is about 2 ft wide. Call it divine intervention or whatever you want but somehow the car was defelcted to the drivers side of the truck's rear bumper and the bikes hit the extreme passanger side of the rear bumper. Leaving a small gap of safe area for my dad and aunt to be in to avoid almost certain death. Needless to say, both bikes are totaled, and my Aunt has 5000 worth of damages to her truck. I cannot accurately describe how fast this happened other than in the blink of an eye,or the shear confusion that took place in the few mins after. But, I can tell you that it is nothing short of a MIRACLE that everyone walked away with their lives. Yea, Curt what is the latest on this? I would not purchase his tunes from ITunes, I would however purchase from him in a heartbeat!

Man, I'm envious of his abilities, I wish I had the confidence that i could pull that off. My 2 certs were back to back(out and back actually) and they were killers to me. I can only dream of being good enough to sit at the table with someone of his caliber. -
Dennis Kirk/Parts Unlimited usually don't go back that far. Annie, get the dimension of package and I'll see what i can do for you. Remember what you paid for postage last month for the quick fist? Cheap, it was like $12 or 13 US, I would think this should fall into same area if it is not too large. Weight is not the issue
