  1. I may have the right size driver, I'll measure the driver I have and the upper on my VR, I presume the RSTD is same size upper legs?
  2. As has been said, for optimized setup,co-phasing an antenna setup must be a minimum of ¼ wave length apart, which is actually 108¼" for 11meters. Do the math. Another point missed on the coax is when co-phasing you do not use 50ohm cable for the leads, a 75 ohm is used or the impedance is off balance. Making sure the twin leads are equal length is paramount as was said. It has been common practice to use a multiple of 3 foot for a CB antenna coax(presuming single ant setup) since the first golden screwdriver award was issued. Not entirely true. If the length of coax affect your swr then your antenna is not resonant to begin with and it is feeding an AC signal back down the coax. Changing the length only changes resonance point for the entire package, not antenna. Use as short of coax as needed to go from point A to point B. If your antenna is resonant on the frequency you want to use it will make no difference if it is 2 foot and 11 inches or 5 foot and 3 inches. While your choice for a whip is good, cheap setup a center loaded coil could be better. They are touted as being a "no ground plane" antenna, and will normally perform on a boat or bike better than a whip. That being said there are whips with about 90% of the winding near the top, such as the firestick. They were specifically designed many years ago for trucks with little to no ground plane, and that's why they work so well. Avoid a Francis whip, while being superior to most anything on market for power handling they have no wire wrap at the top, they have 10 or more(depending on lenght of whip) fine wires running vertically around the radius of the antenna, from the base to the tip. These type must be above anything(like your head) that could reflect the rf propagation.
  3. It is common for the V2k to do this. Well documented on most of the Vulcan sites. Once you get up arounf 2500/3000 miles it will be more pronounced. Change oil at 1800/2000 for quietest lifters.
  4. Great idea. A gimble mount cup holder would work good there, it would be inside the arc of the bars turning so it should get sloshed a lot less. Earl, I still like yours as well or better than mine! As I told you months ago, if you decide you want to produce several of those let me know, 20 or so on my cnc lathe would take less than 30 minutes.
  5. A kid who worked for me bought an X police cruiser, was a detective car with tinted windows. First week he had it he was stopped 3 or 4 times for tint too dark. Finally removed the tint instead of fighting the tickets
  6. Yes all 4 cyl should be same (close)temp. If you have only suddenly noticed this there is a good chance the pilot jets on the offending(cold) cyls have been plugged from bad gas/varnish. Try synching the carbs first, if they won't synch properly then all 4 need be cleaned/rebuilt
  7. COuple years ago I needed a quick mount, my gps had a handlebar mount so I made this bar from stainless, threaded it as the handlebar is and replaced the nut with it. Easily removed, and factory nut put back on. Excerpt from post back in 2008;
  8. On a mechanical speedo the odometer is mechanically driven and the "needle" is magnetically driven by the flywheel inside the speedo. You can correct the needle by tweaking the airgap between the flywheel and needle base. This is how speedo shops calibrate after installing the gears to bring odo as close as possible. Drawback to going inside and tweaking is the ring around the housing is a real pain to find and you need special tooling to recrimp. A digital speedo is a whole different critter, the error rate between the two is not adjustable this way but is adjustable by tweaking the variable resistor for whichever component you wish to adjust. Usually they are right on with each other from factory so the speedo healer does both.
  9. I really enjoyed reading your reports, and yes, I'm jealous too. How in the world can I rig for that much time off? Any way, tell us more about SPot. I read what I could on their website but there are still questions unanswered. i really didn't want to join and fill out a profile just to read about the equipment. I don't use a fancy phone, mine sends and receives voice only so if that is what is needed I guess I'm still using APRS tracking.
  10. I put one on my Vulcan, first time I rode in the rain it quit. Re-grounded the ground wire, soldered the factory spade on instead of just allowing it to rely on crimp. It now works, rain or shine.
  11. I've driven Fords all my life, drag raced Fords, held National record for one season with a Ford. WHen I missed the F150 tail light I quit. I'm not worthy of finishing it. Had only missed 4 including that one to that point.
  12. If I am home and the telmarketer is unlucky enough to get me the conversation usually goes like; Them;Hello, May I speak to Mrs. Myers( our phone is listed in her name) Me; No, shes busy, she is in the shower Them; Is this Mr. Myers? Me; No, I'm Mrs. Myers boyfriend, Mr Myers is out of town. What do you want? Only once have I had them hang up without asking the same question again. On several occasions i've had them start laughing and then tell me they cannot believe what i am telling them at which point I hang up.
  13. I need a fake tank cover, really don't care what color.
  14. They are as bad as Amazon for slow shipping but the light will please you. Not that the wiring is a problem on the RSTD but this kit also bypasses loading the main wiring harness, it only draws about 1 amp via the headlamp wire.
  15. I bought thishttp://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDM-35W-55W-Single-HiLo-Motorcycle-HID-Kit for my Vulcan for $40.00! The 800A is notorious for no headlamp. This thing is super bright! I bought the 35w 6000k unit. The wires on it are black. Install is just as described in first post, hard part was running the main 12v wire. Everything else is plug and play. I do get a little high freq noise in my Sirius unit now, sounds just like the pitch of noise you hear in a neon fixture. But not loud enough to attenuate.
  16. Too much time on your hands there Bob, hope the fence was still up between the Dealership and their "neighbors"
  17. For a lightweight bike like our Vulcans they are really good. Mine has about 8k miles on it, Tina's has less than 1k. Measuring the tread(rear tire) there is less than 1/64 difference. Had not heard the cons about using on a 1st gen, actually was going to order one for my 87, the Dunlop rear has over 18k on it
  18. Tina has a riding jacket that is bright yellow with black sleeve patches and black panels on the front and back. Sometimes when we stop the bees will buzz her. Me being right beside her and they never even check me out, they love her yellow jacket
  19. So, what you going to do the rest of the day?
  20. Don't know how I missed this thread. Played with that a little, my skills are far below the needed level to have a good qso there. Run FTM-10 on both my bike and my wifes Vulcan, 2m in the house. 70cm in the truck . Locals are getting really active on 440 repeaters here. Even 220 is starting to win out over 2m again for some reason. KV8OOA
  21. Thats sort of what I did at home, I took 2 roll arounds, bolted them together sid by side and put swivel casters on one end and the middle. This box I have extra is at work, it was going to replace 3 of my Kennedy machinist boxes but 2 of them got sold off too.
  22. I also have a 24x26' metal building that has never been erected! It comes as a 3 sided building and you are to finish it out as you please or leave it open for a run in. Looks like this;http://www.steelmasterusa.com/wp-content/gallery/garages/metal-buildings-metal-garage-a-model.gif
  23. I upgraded the elcheapo wheels Craftsman uses for some real industrial rollers, with bearings. I guess I could have put a hitch on it and pulled it up there.
  24. The one I have for sale is almost exactly like the 3 stack picture in your link, it has roller drawers instead of glides, more drawers on the intermediate and more in top chest. It stands every bit of 6' tall. I guess looking at the pricing there my asking $275.00 for all 3 may be a little high?
  25. Good for you LilB! It is not often a person can find a riding buddy without said person having ulterior motives. Sounds like you have made a friend. Real friends are tough to come by today. After a few more rides you may even spring on her its time for her to take the MSF course and learn to ride/buy her own so she can enjoy riding as it was meant to be.
