Sounds like everything is going well. Praying for a fast recovery. Even though some of us have never met, Bob sounds like a great guy. With the help of friends ,troubles don't seem as bad, and recovery is easier somehow. Best wishes Bob. Hope we get to meet someday. Gil

Josh-Welcome to the sight. I'm pretty new here also. These people will help with anything. The sight has alot of features, just look around. I'm still learning. By the way, I pull a trailer also, just make sure the tongue weight (trailer loaded heavier in front) is enough. Gil

You forgot the main words in this question, crotch rockets. They didn't have a good cruiser or tourer as a father to guide them.:rotf:

A friend carried his in his wallet untill he lost it or it got stolen on one trip:whistling:Couldn't sleep all night with the bike in the parking lot of hotel. Was worried about it at home also, because if stolen he wasn't far from home. 1st Gen's, side cover comes off easly, wire it to frame somewhere. One friend just put his spare under the gas cap cover in the rubber boot on his 1st Gen. Said no-one would look in such an obveous place. In general, just look around, you can find somewhere to hide one. -
Just hated to read this. Glad to hear he is ok. Hope he recovers soon. Wishing him the best and will send prayers.

Torn minicus is not to bad. Went through that a few years ago. A friend who is a physical ther. says the more you work after the surgery to strenthen the knee the better. You have to push yourself. He also says the older the patent, the harder it is to get them to work hard. My dad is 82 and had a knee replaced 5 yrs ago and a hip this yr. Everyone thinks he is in his 70's. He worked extremly hard to get in shape. Runs beagles in field trails trails all over east of the Mississippi. Still bow and gun hunts for deer. Hope everything works out great and you get your riding partner back soon.

Like everyone says, great rideing area. Just came from a trip there 2 weeks ago. From Mac. city follow Rt. 31 south to Levering. Go west on Levering rd. (co rd 66) to Cross Village. Make sure you stop at Legs Inn and eat. From there follow Rt 119 south (tunnel of trees) to Harbor Springs. Must stop town with lots of shops. Stop in and say Hi at Boyer Glass Works. (He's my cousin) From there continue on 119 to 31 again on to Petoskey,Charlevoix, and on to Traverse City. From there follow 37 to Old Mission Lighthouse and then back down to Trav. City and then follow Rt.22 to North Point and back down to Sleeping Bear Dunes. Continue south on 22 to 31 again to Manistee and Ludington Lots of nice towns with shops. Ludington has some very nice hotels in town towards the habor. Not the big chain hotels. Mac. Island is a great place to visit. We stayed a the Super 8 there in Mac. city also. Ground floor beach front. You can get firewood there and have a fire on the beach in there fire ring. In Trav. city we stayed at Comfort Inn on 31,Nice small resturant next door with good food. We took our time on this trip with not worrying about how many miles we rode in a day. King bed with jacusee tub almost every night. First trip without the kids in how many years for us. Both collage age now. Have a wonderful trip and time.

I have an 86 VR. Two up pulling coleman caboose, large cooler, 2 suitcases (1-overpacked) small tool box, jack. Running 70-75 mph I get 35-36 mpg. Even when I was tent camping carrying everything possible with 2 lawn chairs strapped to luggage rack on trailer, I would get the same. Trailer is large but light weight. Lots of riders pulled them in the old days.

Started pulling trailer in 86. Just before I started, I talked with a guy who actually watched his friends bike get pulled over in a hard curve in the rockies. He said it was not a pretty sight and that the outside tire on the trailer lifted off the road and continued to lift higher the more his friend leaned into the curve, untill the bike went down. He said they just misjudged the curve, but was not going overly fast. His friend just leaned the bike over more than the hitch could swivel on the ball. Remember, this all took place before cell phone's and help was a long time coming. They were fortunate that no-one was hurt seriously, just a lot of road rash. Ruined a nice vacation though. I had a mishap one time where I had to lean the bike over hard in a hairpin turn to miss a large pothole in the middle of my lane on a 2 lane state route. The trailer tire hit the pothole and my friend said that tire bounced and went about 3 foot in the air and when it came down the whole trailer(both wheels) came off the road about 2 foot and bounced again and again, each time leaveing the road, but at smaller heights untill everything settled down. I felt the trailer bounce, but did not know how bad untill we stopped for gas. He said it scared him half to death. I credit the swivel hitch. I would not pull without one.

My friend of 30 yrs just traded his wing for a new venture. Is there a bolt on backrest like the old Markland available. The only ones he can find are the one's that you have to buy a new seat with a gap in it for the rest.
