  1. Thunderbearr, The wires go to connectors along the frame rail behind the side cover and can be separated there but you may have to remove the middle gear cover as well to get the wires out. Since you're getting the cover welded it may be better to remove the stator but it's not essential as long as it's protected. If you do remove the stator an impact driver is the best way to get the philips screws started but you can use vice-grips in a pinch.( I speak from experience) Good Luck
  2. Are these what your looking for? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1988-Yamaha-XVZ1300-Venture-Royale-Ignition-Coils_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35594QQihZ019QQitemZ290179995654
  3. I'll be checking out the bike on the weekend and will go from there. The owner isn't mechanical and has had it to a couple of shops for service and he hasn't wanted to spend much $$$ on it. It sounds like he doesn't have the support of the 'other half ' and wants to cut his losses. :cool10:May be bad news for him and good news for me. Rick
  4. Hey all, I may be able to pick up an old 1100 Virago with starter and carb issues. Has new rear shocks, battery and solenoid. I am looking at it as a winter project and will sell it come spring. What sort of problems do these bikes have besides starter issues? Any comments or advice is welcome. Rick
  5. I'm the farthest distance away so the missing left is probably in my shipment.:rotf:I haven't recieved them yet but will check asap after they arrive. Rick
  6. You should also replace the plug wires and caps if they are more than a few years old. They can break down intermittantly and prevent enough spark at the plug.
  7. Condor, Great news, looking forward to getting shiny new pipes. I just picked up a set of front headers on ebay and will be replacing them and the mufflers over the winter. Just a shipping concern, When shipping to Canada please use USPS as UPS charges us unsuspecting Canucks a huge brokerage fee on top of the charges paid by the shipper. I have had to refuse some UPS shipments because the additional charges were more than the value of the products. Anyway Thanks for your efforts to improve the look and sound of these great bikes. Rick
  8. Most in 1 day for me was on my return trip from Sault St.Marie last summer. I spent the night in Petawawa, Ontario and rode to Charlottetown, PEI 867miles in about 15 hours. I had planned a stop around 600 miles but couldn't find a room so ended up going the distance. Got home at 1:30 am.
  9. Thanks Squidley, Sent you a PM. Rick
  10. Anyone got a good rear brake rotor for an 84 Venture? I have a pulsing in the pedal operated brakes and last night removed the side bag and the rear rotor is warped. I guess the caliper must be sticking so it looks like I'll be rebuilding the brakes this winter. Thanks
  11. Condor, I'm happy to wait, I just won a set of front header pipes on ebay yesterday and it will take a couple of weeks before I see them. I will not be installing the exhaust until spring. Appreciate your efforts.

    In stock

Our dealer has a 07 Midnight Venture marked down to $20,999.00 Canadian and we pay 17% tax on top of that. Not sure if that includes dealer prep and transportation. If I wanted one I think I would be heading south.:rotf:
  13. Will 1987 rotors work on a 84 with original calipers? I have a warped rotor and may be able to get a set from an 87.
  14. Numb Knuckles, I don't think anyone answered your first question but the case is aluminum and can be welded. A good welder may be able to strenghten it to prevent future breakage but It may be cheaper to just buy a replacement. I'm not sure why the oil filter cover is magnesium but it may need the extra strength/rigidity since its only bolted in the middle.
  15. Hey Marcarl, check out this link in the tech library http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=499 It may be what you're looking for.
  16. Thanks for rubbing that in Rocket. Actually we can usually ride here till December but its May or June before its fit to get on the road in the spring. On PEI we have 4 seasons. Summer - Fall - Winter and mud.
  17. I wasn't planning on installing mine until spring so I'll be patiently waiting. BTW whats a set of rusty Jardines likely to bring on ebay?
  18. Another member ( maybe Dragonrider) had this happen a while ago and had a post with pictures of the broken shaft. It was the nut inside the u-joint yoke on the output shaft. I tried to search for the post but it may have disappeared when the site crashed last year. You'll need to replace the output shaft but the good news is you won't have to split the case to do it.
  19. The Yamaha parts fishe lists the diaghram parts numbers as : 1983-1985 part# 41R-14940-09-00 1986-1993 part# 1FK-14940-09-00 Does anyone know what the difference is between these diaghrams? Besides the price! Don't all these models use 34mm Mikuni carbs. Just curious. :detective:
  20. Randya, I'm wondering if the thrust washers have finally worn through since your still using the originals. If so this may be allowing extra play in the tranny. I would remove the small cover on the left side of the engine and inspect the retainers and thrust washer. The undercut on the second gear may be keeping it engaged even though the thrust washers are worn. Just my 2cents. Keep us up to date. Rick
  21. Condor, Payment has been sent via paypal. Thanks for the efforts to arrange this buy. Rick
  22. Picked up the stator and Voltage reg from Doug in St.Paul on Monday. Got the bike on Tuesday and changed the voltage regulator and it still wouldn't charge. Pulled it over on the lawn behind the hotel and laid it down on the right side and removed the left engine cover and changed the stator. Put it all together and started it up and voila the voltage was up to 14.5 volts and all is well. Left for PEI at noon on tuesday and got here after midnight on Wednesday. Did over 900 miles weds, which was too much but wanted to get home. Thanks to all who gave advice and special thanks to Old Iron Rider who gave me the lead on the used parts.
  23. Fixit, Those readings are phase to phase. There is no ground connection at the stator. Anyway good news on my dilemma. Old Iron Rider from St.Paul put me in contact with a guy that has the stator and Regulator on an 83 he's parting out. I just finished talking with him and will pick them up Monday on my way back to Canada. He's parting it due to 2nd gear and is sure the electrical parts are good.
  24. Midicat, and others What kind of meter are you using? The readings I have are 5Vac at idle, and about 10Vac at 2000 rpm using a digital meter on AC volts. I get the same values on all 3 coils at the connector with it disconnected from the regulator. Maybe I need to be looking for a stator too! Right now the bike is in a compound in Sault St Marie and I am in Minneapolis till Monday. I need to get parts ordered but it will probably be Monday before I can do that.
  25. 1984 Venture Standard. My charging system failed when I got to the Soo Thurs night. I had to leave the bike there and am now in Minneapolis for the weekend. I have no output from the voltage regulator and think its bad. The stator puts out 5 volts AC at idle and 10 volts at 2000rpm on all 3 coils. I checked the connectors and the diode check on the regulator is OK. 1. Do these readings on the stator sound OK? 2. Where can I get a Voltage Reg fast between Minneapolis and Sault ST.Marie? Does anyone have 1 I can buy? It will take 3 days from the dealer. My battery is a year old and charged OK from a charger. The bike starts and runs except for charging.
