Planning to paint my 84 this winter and am considering a silver and black combination. Anyone with this combination or other non factory 2 tones willing or able to post pictures? I have a friend who's son is apprenticing in auto body and is looking for projects plus I painted mine a few years ago and it was a quick and dirty job. I have seen some of his work and he is getting pretty good at painting. I will have to do some tab and crack repair also. Here's a before and after of my current paint job, the gold is a Nissan colour.

1984 Standard with 107,000 kilometers. or 66,488 miles. bought it as a basket case 4 years ago with 77,000km. did plastic repair, paint, rear suspension, 2nd gear, exhaust collector, clutch, stator, water pump, brakes, progressive springs, replaced forks, tires , etc, etc. Phew, I need a break anyone want to trade?

Dragonslayer, Before buying a starter try a known good battery and see if the starter still drags. You can even use your car battery just connect it with jumper cables. This will tell you whether the starter is good or not. If the good battery starts it ok, you may have another bad Odyssey or the charging system may need to be checked. Its possible the Odyssey isn't getting recharged enough to start the bike. GeorgeS has posted some good tips on charging system troubleshooting in the past. Good Luck

Triple tree swap 1200 and 1300????
PEIslander replied to Holgi's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Holger, I have a triple tree from an 84 in good condition which you can have. I did a quick check online and Canada Post will want about $70.00 shipping. If you're interested let me know and I'll get an accurate rate and you'll only pay the actual cost of shipping. I think Skydoc's offer is pretty good too and the brake upgrade might be worth the extra shipping cost. PM me if you're interested. -
2nd gear repair parts cost?
PEIslander replied to 6m459's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Did mine 2 years ago and have about 15,000 miles on it. Spend less than $200 for the gaskets, thrust washers, valve cover gaskets and kit for clutch slave cylinder. Also did the water pump impeller upgrade and orings at the same time. Followed Randya's directions and also undercut the worn dogs on 2nd gear. Worst part of the job was getting the engine back in. Best part was redlining in second when she was back on the road. Still love 2nd gear! -
I pay approx $360.00 a year for pl/pd and passenger coverage on my 84. I am with RBC insurance and got a quote online. I found them a bit less than Primmum. My local company which has my other vehicles was almost double the RBC quote. Not sure why we have to pay so much in Canada especially when we don't tend to be as 'litigious' as our American friends.

Is the 87 rear rotor the same as an 84, if so I have one that isn't warped that will get you going. I know the fronts are different but not sure of the rear. Anyone have the answer? Rick

RED I've had good luck with these guys http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com/ for parts. They may be able to look after you. Rick

need exhaust collector advise on short notice
PEIslander replied to barend's topic in General Tech Talk
Barend, There is a great article in the tech library showing this repair. Removing the collector is advised because the mounting brackets also crack and may need to be welded. Best to remove this yourself and find a friend who can weld stainless to do the job. Did mine 3 years ago and its working fine. Here is the link to the tech article. Steve, Only you can decide if its safe to ride with the springs in the condition they are. With it bottoming out there is the potential for a loss of control after hitting a pothole or other obstacle. However if you know the roads you'll be on and can prepare for any bumps then you'll probably be OK. My 84 was doing the same thing -bottoming out on rough roads and in particular a bridge that I crossed often. The progressives were easy to install and relatively cheap $75.00 Canadian and made a big difference. I used half the spacer included and run with 7-8lbs of air. The only special tool needed is a 17mm allen socket.

MAC muffler fit and finish

Had to bend one of the mounting tabs a bit to get the turndown to look level from the rear. Other than that they were perfect. Very happy with mine. I had the same style Jardines on mine from the PO and they were rusted bad and had bits of baffle loose inside. They were 5 years old. -
friesman1 I need the left side bag. I'll check out Pinwall, thanks for the tip. I did find some on ebay but in the hundreds of dollars.

I'm looking for the inside half of a saddlebag for an 84 Venture. If anyone has 1 kicking around please send me a PM. Will also consider buying the whole thing if anyone has them. I had a bottle of brake fluid leak and it ate the bottom out of it!!! :snow2:Getting tired of winter had freezing rain last night.

There's one on now with 26 bids at $60.00 2hours left. Got to agree, there's nothing in it worth 60 bucks. http://shop.ebay.com/items/_W0QQ_nkwZventureQ20toolQ20kitQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZR40QQ_mdoZ

In 1980 between our wedding and the reception we had some pictures taken and since it was a hot July day we stopped in to the local A&W driveinn for a frosty rootbeer. My brother was driving and ordered 4 drinks and paid for the mugs too. We still have them. Great memories!

Is there a online owner Manuel 83 Venture

No sweat, We're all learning from each other on this site. I felt a bit silly myself when it happened to me but in retrospect the symbols Yamaha used aren't very good so we'll blame them. -

Hey Skidmark, Some of us have mistaken the low brake fluid light for a low oil. On the dash readout the top left indicator is sidestand, the one below it is low brake fluid and the one below that is low oil. If its brake fluid it could be either front or rear resevoir low. When I got my bike a few years ago the light would come on when I was accelerating hard and I thought it was oil but it turned out to be the front brake resevoir. The low oil indicator looks like an old oil can and the brake fluid looks like this (O) with a drop in the middle of the O. ( I tried to attach a picture but couldn't) . The picture of the dash monitor is on page 8 in the manual http://labs.trunkful.com/8385servicemanual.pdf Good Luck Rick -
I put NGK's in mine the first year I owned it but in the fall they fouled up quickly when I had to use the choke. Up here the NGK's cost about $5 each. I replaced them with Autolites I got at a Farm and Fleet in Milwaukee for a buck each and they have been in for 2 years now. with about 10,000 miles on them. I'll probably replace them next spring. Like the others said I haven't had good luck with Champions and usually stay away from them. Rick
