  1. 2 years ago drove 4 hours in driving rain. Got completely soaked from crotch to mid chest, and at every opening. Paper thin and tore in several places. I was then a duct tape duck. Waste of $30+. Went to a 1 piece heavier vinyl.
  2. I'm retired and loving it!!! Best time of my life!!!! No more jerky bosses, or inapt fellow workers, or stupid rules:whistling:.
  3. Long handle bar like a jack handle or 2 x 2. . Pry up on braces between the carbs carefully. They are equally hard to install, use grease. Connect throttle cables before reinstalling.
  4. If you got spark it has to be gas, or vice versa. I just synched a GS1000. 2 cold pipes 2 hot. Had to synch a 2nd time to get it right, now all 4 hot pipes. Also to me sounds like a plugged idle jet port in the cold cylinder. At Harbor Freight they have a $10 infared heat temp gauge that looks like a key fob. Works great in telling which cylinder is not working correctly. Point closely to exhaust pipes at exactly the same place and angle. All pipes should be within 5-10 degrees temp range.
  5. If you want to stay an extra WEEK come see me. Ask Tom and Goose! Don't look for tires or touring bikes here either!! They bought them all.
  6. 2 gentlemen finally picked it up. (Very loose on that noun) 3:30 pm. Thursday 3/26/09 9 days after promising it would be out of here. Several times heard it would be out today or within an hour. YA Right! I had to threaten, :stickpoke:steal, borrow, push, kick, the main progressive agent who wasn't even in town (in Dallas). Local guy never returned a call. Ya, I have Progressive on my cars too. Renew???? These pick up guys said they had to contact Tom get it it released, but Progressive and salvage co. (3rd party) never gave them my number. How stupid!!
  7. Wed. 3/26 and the bike is still here!!!! NOT Tom's/wife's fault. They're really trying. Another reason I have inexpensive older bikes is I only put Liability on them. $50-55 per bike/per year. If I loose a bike worth only $1000-3000 so what?? I don't have to deal with complicated policies or jerks at insurance companies. Thousands saved and I can have multiple bikes.... Ennie Mennie Minnie Moe, choices, choices which one today?
  8. The clutch basket slots widen with age. Also the tabs on the clutch plates narrow. More gaps= more noise. Very common on old GW's. It's a DWAI. Don't worry about it. If it starts to grind then fix it. , Or buy another bike!
  9. Congratulations on the beautiful Cherry Red 1800 GoldWing. Sorry we are not a touring nor out of towner motorcycle dealer friendly town. If it ain't a bar hopper or 600cc racer we don't carry it here. It was a tough week for you guys. Keep us posted on your progress. Chuck and Linda.
  10. for the nuetral/gear position switch on the left side of the bike under the side cover. Clean contacts. 6 wires. Ground each of the 6 wires/connectors at the switch under the middle gear cover. If the monitor for the gears starts working it's probably this switch. Take it off and clean everything.
  11. 1. LEDs are not as bright as incandescents yet 2. LED's give off directional light where incandescents spread out in all directions 3. They set off the computer monitor because there isn't enough resistance 4. I wasted $10 too. 5. Gave up and went back to regular 1157's 6. LEDs give off weird colors 7. Could try a 5 ohm resistor in the brake circuit.
  12. 1. Lubricating the cables using light oil. Take cap off the electrical components next to grip, 2 screws, pour oil in/under pulley. 2. Make sure there is 1/8" free play at the hand grip. 3. Look at linkages at carbs do they move freely? If the throttle cables/linkages have even a little drag the cruise does not function properly.
  13. We are all very tired today. The drop off from being on adrenaline, the waiting, dehydration:scorched:, could not sleep thinking about how it could have been worse and what we could have done to prevent this. Tom is better today but still sore all over. Small open battle scars starting to heal. Anyways insurance totaled the bike, sending a check to Tom's Georgia home. Hoping bike get's picked up soon. Took a few accessories off today. Putting Kent's back to original. Lots of waiting today. But the good news! Tom called Santa Teresa (NM) Motorsports asked and got a good deal on a new 08? 09? :mo money:Gray and black very nice colors. We asked them to stay with us another day , but insurance :bowdown:said they would pay so they are in a motel 5 miles from our house. Motel is on the way to pick up the new bike tomorrow. Who would have thought they would be stuck here 5 days. Tom today is too sore to drive a bike. Hopefully Friday he will be ok. Had a very good dinner at Texas Road House, they are resting comfortably. Very "glad" to help and God was watching over them Chuck and Linda El Paso Tx If you ever come visit us expect a few delays....
  14. They make it to El Paso on Sunday. Monday it takes all morning to find a rear tire. In the afernoon we tour El Paso area. From Sacramento we get a new tire overnighted. None in El Paso. Then today Tuesday, what a day! The overnighted tire was coming in UPS, but we had to go search down the driver to get it. Got it mounted by 2:30 pm and we were on the road. Kent and Tom (brothers) still wanted to take the border route out of El Paso. About 3:45 on a very rural road 60 miles from El Paso the brand new rear Dunlop Elite 3 blew out on Tom's 07 Venture. Bike and trailer does 2 swerves then into the ditch avoiding a sign post and electric pole. Kent and I (Chuck) turned around, had to go back 1/2 mile to Tom. Tom had jumped off at the very last second to avoid a guy wire angling down from the electric pole. Bike split the 1" wire! It is totaled, tank and crash bars are badly bent. Wrecker made it worse, but who cares? We called for a wrecker but the EMS, County Sheriff, 2 border patrols, a few passing cars, and state police show up slowly. 3 hours later the wrecker has the bike out of the ditch. Tom is scratched up on on his hands the worst. badly sore all over. Family called. Glad we could help. Several good fortunes, going slow, soft dirt, jumping off, good help, strong bike, Kent & I can help Tom, and much more. We all returned back to El Paso by 7:30 pm. More later.
  15. There is a vast amount of sludge inside both top and bottom (master and slaves). They are a closed system but dirt and water eventually get inside. I have cleaned many master and slave/wheel cylinders and all over 5 years are dirty and corroded. Water oxidizes the aluminum and makes the pistons seize or move slowly. I have flushed my 84 clutch 4 times in 8 months and finally rebulit the slave cylinder. Brake and clutch systems work on the same principle. Personally I believe the slave and brake cylinders are more at fault. But make sure the 2 small holes in the masters are not plugged.
  16. Stuck open float on #1 carb. That's why it will start and run at 400 rpm, Using the choke just totally floods that cylinder and stalls the engine. But if the float is stuck open my best guess you have other plugged ports that the seafoam can't get thru to clean them out. Try taking the carb side diaphrams out, easy job and use spray carb in more jets/ports there. You probably will end up removing the carbs and cleaning many more orifices in the float bowl area. Did it sit for more than a few weeks at any one time? Does it idle OK after it warms up? Does it have power thruout the RPM range? What is your MPG's?
