  1. Definitely agree. If it is a more advanced plane definitely still want to get a trainer.
  2. I may have scored a freebie. I don't have pics or anything and condition uknown. I talk to people all over the country as part of my job. Unless it is someone new it is the same people that I have known for years in some cases. I just got a call and the guy mentioned he saw a facebook post of mine and wanted to know if I was into r/c airplanes. I told him I am just starting out. He mentioned he got one from a neighbor or something like 12 yrs ago but has in his attic for the past 10 yrs. he just said you can have it but the engine doesn't work. Last year my dad gave me his hobby stuff (some of you may have seen my photobucket post) so I may have the engine part covered. Can't wait to get it. :-)
  3. To me this is one of the greatest honors I can think of. I just met Dick Anderson from the '72 undefeated Miami Dolphins. He brought his ring and some of us got a picture with Dick and us wearing the ring.
  4. Went through all the trainers on bananahobby and I like this one. http://www.bananahobby.com/2084.html
  5. rstacy, Funny you posted that. I wondered if my harbour freight trailer could be converted just like some do with their big trailers. Now I know. :-) I imagine you would need some padding in there to prevent them from bouncing all over the place and getting broken. I checked out the Banana Hobby web-site, looks like they quite a few trainer planes all for around the same price. A couple of them look to be the same ones just different color and some others are the same plane just different sizes. http://www.bananahobby.com/electric-rc-airplanes-4-ch-3d-aerobatic-rc-planes.html I like this one too, but too bad sold out http://www.bananahobby.com/2088.html
  6. I bought the transmitter ahead of the plane because of what I would want to expand into the future. From what it seems like you aren't going to be flying a decent outdoor heli on anything less than 6 or 7 channels. I wanted to buy 1 transmittor to use for whatever what I want to fly vs. buying several for each application. For planes what I understand 4 channels are pretty standard. You would use a 5th for things like retractable landing gear and maybe a 6th if you want to drop stuff like bombs. Can anyone provide input if I am on the right track in regards to channels and applications?
  7. My issue with that one is if you look at the faq's the transmittor is propietary. Can the receiver in Banana Hobby's planes bind with my own radio? No. Banana Hobby's 2.4Ghz will not bind with Spektrum or FASSST or any other on the market. I supposed I could change out the receiver and I think it would work then, wouldn't it?
  8. Before you did your post I was going over the website. The battery and charger are my concern since I already have the radio and receiver. That's another $200. Might as well buy the RTF version which comes with all that for about $130 less vs buying those items seperately. Check the pics from that ebay item I sent you. It came with a charger but I think that is the transmittor battery charger. Don't know if it can also be used to charge the receiver battery. If it can be used for the receiver battery then all I should need would be a receiver battery. Regardless that is another $55. Even the BNF Supercub comes with everything needed except the transmittor which I know have and for alot less.
  9. What do you think about this? Not crazy about the price, but I like the plane. http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFL2900
  10. I have decided to go a different route. I bought a Spektrum DX7 (not the new S) on ebay. Going to bind it to an airplane which my wife said she will get me for my b-day.:banana: I have 3 in mind. That super cub I put the link to earlier a Corsair (guy at hobby shop said experienced flyers have reported it would be good for a beginner too) and a Stinson. I have been trying to find a used copy of Phoenix flight sim to practice with until then as you can bind the spektrum to the software. So far no luck. There's one on ebay but they want more than what I want to pay for a used copy. The rest are new.
  11. Not really. I think you just helped me to make up my mind in passing up on the blade cx2. I would want to fly outdoors and I keep going back to I would rather have an airplane. The $20 heli's work just fine for the kiddos as they enjoy the heck out of the ones they have now and are more disposable should they wreck one (as they have already but at least they can still fly). $80 is not so disposable. BR, just make sure you post videos here of people running for their lives. :-)
  12. If you look at the e-flite's website they say retail for the mCX is $170 but selling price is $79.99. With the person on craiglist it says it comes with 3 batteries but who knows if those are new or used. If used who knows what kind of life they have left in them so you may have to go out and spend $40 for a new battery. I am just making a comparison why spend $60 when you can get the same thing brand new for $80. Now if it was a difference between $60 & $170 (retail price) I would spend the $60 any day. BTW I found another mCX in another town for $60 as well. I guess the mCX is an indoor heli. Not sure CX2 is for outdoor use.
  13. Found on Craigslist a MCX RFT for $60 in my hometown. Thought it was a good deal at 1st until I just saw on E-flite's website you can get a new one for $80.
  14. I have someone offer me $80+shipping for a blade cx2. Comes with extra blades, 3 batteries, the base thing to add stability and i guess it softens landings too, heli & transmitter. I have been focusing on a transmitter 1st and Jeff mentioned to me you can get a new BNF cx for $60. Which if I wanted a heli, I would want a BNF since I want to hand pick my transmitter. I suppose for the right price I would consider it still and still hand pick a transmitter. Just not sure $80+shipping is the right price for me.
  15. Monty we bought a double pack at kohls for about the same price as part if Black Friday. There isn't anyway for it to hover in one spot. Just flys where it wants to but you have a button to make it spin in a different direction to redirect its' path. It's fun nevertheless.
  16. Steve, I feel the same about Consumer Reports when it comes to cars. I will say overall their reports tend to hate GM. I have owned several GM cars some w/ no issues and 1 or 2 w/ small issues that most people say who cares. I have had a couple Ford cars that 1 gave favorable reviews and 1 was even recommended. Both ended up being junk with electrical issues. Maybe a classic Mustang or something like that one day, but for me I have no plans to ever buy a Ford product again.
  17. Dang Monty. Good find. I have been searching Craigslist mostly. Don't know if the seller test flew the trainer since it looks like the big one doesn't have an engine. Regardless of working models/equipment or not all those goodies are well over what you paid for.
  18. How many receivers typically come with the planes? Since the Futaba transmitter that I was looking at already came with a receiver and the guy made the comment the planes they have come with spectrum receivers would I only need to switch 1 receiver for another or do planes come with multiple receivers? He did mention with the FM mode the problem is if you are at a field where someone is already flying and also using FM, you would have to wait until they are done so you can fly or else it will cause interference and you wouldn't be able to fly the plane. Am I to take the comment that with the correct module you can use a Futaba transmittor with a spectrum receiver?
  19. I visited the local hobby store today just to get some advise. What he mentioned was pretty much the same as here. Get involved w/ a local chapter and/or you can get the flight sim software to practice with. The flight sim seems more like a video game which isn't bad. He mentioned that one software version you can battle others online. He flew a Spitfire for me which had guns to shoot and missles to fire. We went over several planes and options like ready to fly (take it out of the box and fly) vs almost ready to fly (parts are all there and wings are covered just need to put it together w/ some glue). Also went over gas vs. electric. He said with electric it will last about 10 minutes (with the receiver that came with the Super Cub) which with most people by then people are ready to land the airplane and do something else like fly another plane, go get something to drink, etc...He said with gas it will last about 15-20 minutes. His opinion was the same as here in regards to get a transmittor that is more universal. The Super Cub we looked at had a 2.4, 4 channel spektrum and the transmittor was not specific to just that plane. He said his grandson could fly it 1st time out. His grandson couldn't take off or land but had no problems with flying it. He mentioned that providing the trim is setup properly, if you let go of the controls with the Anti-Crash technology the plane will just level off and continue to fly by itself. He also said the larger the plane the better. He felt the larger planes were easier to fly when you consider factors like the wind. We also looked at a 6 channel spektrum that he said pretty much will fly any plane in the store. Even said there are 10 planes preprogrammed into the receiver. He did mention it could be used for heli's too. Guess spektrum is a pretty common transmittor/receiver combo in this hobby? To get another brand transmittor to fly in those planes was a matter of switching out the receiver to match the brand. If I had the cash I probably would have gone ahead and bought this one Futaba they had on sale for 50% off. Even at 50% off it was really expensive for me. It was an 8 channel fm transmittor that had (whatever it was) to be able to switch to 2.4 so it could also fly the spektrum receivers too. Doesn't make much sense to me that you can use one brand transmittor with another brand receiver. Maybe I misunderstood. It also came with 4 servos, receiver and a receiver battery(?) and I am sure some other things. One nice bonus is you get a free case with some of the Futaba transmittors. I am sure with the cost of this one, it would have been one of them. I checked the Futaba website and said the case is $60 so maybe that will make it worth spending the extra $$$? He also said the one they have on sale is an older model. So one question I have is are there receivers that work with multiple transmittors or vice versa. All in all I think I walked away with some good info.
  20. So what is the average flying time of electric vs. gas? Jose mentioned 15 minutes and it is time to recharge again. Jose, The comments didn't bother me. Jeff, The transmitter is a good point. I do like the idea of a "universal" transmitter better.
  21. Good looking plane. Not sure about cost after shipping but seems bigger and cheaper than the one I have been looking at lately. http://hobbytown.com/Shop/SUPER-CUB-DSM-RTF/ Also the kid holding up the airplane I see his picture holding various airplanes on ebay. For example ebay id 250936442582
  22. Wow. The detail is amazing. We took the kids to a train show downtown Indy recently. They had alot of good setups but I don't think they were close to the detail as the ones in your pics.
  23. Monty, I bought this at Menards last year or year before dirt cheap cuz they were clearancing it out. http://teamupnascarrccars.net/Paul_Menards__98_H.html I have some young ones. To say the least it was fun while it lasted. I think all I need is a new receiver. Jeff, Might be a long haul from IN to WI. PM me your addy and I will see about shipping it to you. Sounds like you would be able to check it out and maybe even fly it even during winter. Just to warn you it is pretty sticky at this point. Might need a good cleaning 1st and I don't know how to do it properly. I have other engines that I tried cleaning. Thought I did a really good job but just didn't feel right when trying to run them through compression.
  24. Funny this came up. On monday I had the laptop out. Me and the kids were watching utube videos of r/c heli's, tanks, subs and monster airplanes (not the hobby store variety, much larger scale) There was one heli that took up pretty much an entire trailer and once he got it out if he would have stood it on its' nose it would have been just as tall if not taller than him. The caption was something about red bull. The guy looked like he was behind some industrial building and I think you could even see another really small one flying around. We bought a double pack from Kohl's for christmas. Nothing that you can really control pitch with. It just flys around wherever it wants put you can rotate it left or right and control it that way (haphazardly). search Josef Schmirls RedBull Cobra Flyinfool, Been thinking when the weather warms up I might send my pt-19 to you to look over to see if you can get the engine working since I remember you said you used to or still do line control planes and seemed pretty familiar with the engine. I'm going to move on to something else if I can't get it going but I haven't given up yet (just for now since it is winter).
  25. No. I don't know what zappos is. I agree that it is good I caught it in time. I think it is also a good thing the banks are closed today since the transactions haven't cleared yet.
