I asked the previous owner. He isn't sure whether the battery has been replaced or not. If not, it is 9 yrs old and I have been having battery issues. The 3 nights I put it on the battery tender. When I went to check on it the next morning, it was still red. Just before I left to go to work it turned green. That is 12+ hrs it needed to charge the battery. W/ my previous bike, it was a couple hours and it was charged on a 5 yr old battery. 2 nights ago, I put it on the charger and it was green by the morning. Last night, I put it on the charger and still red this morning. So assumming it is the original battery, I rode in this morning and was pretty much dying just before I pulled into the parking spot. Dealer said battery prices just went up. Quoted me $145. Online OEM says around $101. Does anyone know of any alternates? Can you pick up the same battery at places like Autozone? Thanks. Jerry

Giving mad props to my home slice Bummer. He's good peeps. Ok now that I got that out.... I want to thank Bummer for helping this past weekend with getting the SWR adjusted on my firestik cb antenna and also for the connector on the firestik am/fm antenna. I was amazed at how easy it is to adjust the swr. Time consuming (especially if you mount the rubber ring on the underside of the antenna bracket ), but easy. Hopefully will be able to pay it forward to someone else soon. Heard some interesting stuff on the cb on the way to work this morning. Guy not happy about a Hopper not being cleaned out apparently. Oh yeah and like you suggested I did call diamondr. Patti said she will check the shop for an extra pin. They did have one and is sending it to me. Jerry.

Help finding part!!
Sideoftheroad replied to jburrell's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Better grab the 2 switch one fast. I followed the link and it said price $0.00. You have to put it in your shopping cart. It is on back order, but $103. Ouch. The 3 switch one is $60. -
stebel horn
Sideoftheroad replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
So here is what I ended up doing. I have connectors going to both the positive and negative battery terminals (yes 2 seperate wires, just not giving all the details on this wire to this connection point, etc...). Tied into the pink wire inside the fairing and there is another 4 wire connector inside the fairing that has a brown wire. I followed the wiring schematic and found the brown stock horn wires ties into this wire. I can't remember the name of the connector that had the brown wire. For some reason the brake switch comes to mind. So got it all hooked up and hit the button. Yippeeee. Works perfectly. It is funny though. If I barely tap the horn button, you can hear the stebel horn vibrate the fairing. If I hit the button and hold it, it is music to my ears? Must be pretty cramped quarters in there. At least the fairing went back on smoothly w/out a hitch. So far no feedback issue either. Some people have said it was only when they use the cb and some have said it happens when they use the radio. No radio issues whether using speakers or helmet headset. I can't use my cb at the moment so I don't know on that part yet. I did use 16 gauge wiring. Unless I have some 20 guage, that is the only wiring I have. Thanks everyone. -

Steve, No real reason besides an alternate location. -
yeah, I know been beaten to death. I searched several posts and still can't find the answer. If I were to mount it on the brake side of the bike, I can use an L bracket and tie into a pink and brown wire on 2 relay posts If I were to mount it in the fairing (which is how so far I have chosen to do), one relay post still goes to the pink wire, but not sure about the other wire. If there is a brown wire in the fairing, please let me know where. Any other options? A. Pink horn wire goes to RELAY POST 85. B. Brown horn wire goes to Relay Post 86. C. Connect one end of a wire to Relay Post 30 and the other end to the Hot side,+, of the compressor D. Connect end of your 20 amp Fused line to Relay Post 87 and the other end to the Hot Post,+, of your Battery. E. Connect the negative,-, on compressor to ground or neg,-, post on battery Also I have been reading about the feedback issue. Has anyone that has mounted it in the fairing still had the feedback issue? I am considering getting a seperate button and just wiring it seperately from the stock button if that will eliminate any feedback issue. From what I have understood the closer to the battery you install the fuse, the better off you are. Anyone else have this same understanding? Thanks.

Loose Radio Antenna
Sideoftheroad replied to bmxndad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
gibvel, I am in the middle of doing the marshall mod myself. I think it was my very 1st post about my cb antenna. I was given this link for a Firestik am/fm antenna. I checked and at least at that time they had it in stock. http://www.westcoastmall.net/amfm3b-...nna-p-212.html I gave the info. to Firestik and also asked why they discontinued production of the am/fm antenna. Here is what they said Here is the link to do single antenna mod: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11486 Thanks Freebird for both links. -

Steve, Yup they did start a chapter at Westfield Yamaha. I do know what you mean on some of the issues. I don't recall any newbies getting bashed. From my understanding (could be wrong) the dealer you bought the bike from is/was supposed to turn the info. to either STAR motorcycles who in turn sends info. to Star Touring Or the dealer just turns in the info. to STAR touring to get your free year. I think I got it figured out though. Last night I turned on the bike and then plugged it in. Didn't work. Tonight I plugged it in and then turned on the bike. Now it is working. Could be a thing too if maybe I didn't push the cable in far enough or something like that too. The holes are already there to mount them to the inside of the trunk, now I just have to get some screws so I can mount it. -

az1103, Could the cable be loose enough to still get power but not recognize the cd? gibvel, All the cables were already hooked up when I bought the bike. I looked inside the connector and at least the one that goes to the cd changer it looks pretty clean. I would just have to take apart the fairing to look there. But I do know it was working at one point for the previous owner. Brings a good thought. Need to find out why he took it out. Bummer says he took his out. Might be for similar reasons. Bummer, That would be great if we could try it. Probably won't be this weekend unless you want to come to the Westfield Star Chapter ride on Sunday. We are going to Nappanee. Meeting at McDonald's between 8 - 9am in Noblesville (on SR 32 just west of SR 37). Kickstands up at 9. Otherwise will have to try and get a free weekend sometime to meet you. Thanks. Jerry. -
I think that is the model #. Got this unit as a freebie from the previous owner. Only thing is it didn't come w/ the cartridge. Bought the cartridge and attempted to make sure it works. Manual says hit audio button until you get the the cd and you see the icon. Well I kept scrolling through it several times and I can't get it to recognize the cd changer. I am at least getting power to the cd changer as I can eject the cartridge and when I put it in I hear it cycle through the cd's. I tried searching to see if anyone had this issue before but I couldn't find anything. Any ideas? Thanks.

On my way home from a dealer (hour away from my house). Got home. Got the kids and got ready to leave again so we can run an errand. The garage door was still open. Got in the car and I noticed something odd looking about the back of my bike, can't quite put my finger on it. Oh I got it, the cb antenna is gone. Must have flown off on my way home. Didn't really matter anyway. CB antenna didn't work and I am doing the Marshall Mod. Got the mounts on Friday and the antennas should be here on Monday.

cb antenna

Question about the marshall mod. For those who don't like the slop from the fold down adapter, what did they do for an adapter? Thanks. -
cb antenna
Sideoftheroad replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
gibvel, I offered one guy $40 for a used cb antenna from an '03. He sent me a picture. Basically everything from the cable to a complete antenna. He said $75. I said no thanks (because of the marshall mod). Just checking other cheaper alternatives 1st. Bummer/bill04, What I really need is below the load. From what I can gather the antenna is just pushed down on top of the mount. If you remove your antenna and look at the bottom of the antenna at that black plastic piece just above the mount, there should be a piece sticking out that is hollowed out in the middle. The piece that sticks out is what I need. It is threaded on the other end. The person that owned the bike previously didn't realize that you just have to pull up on the antenna to remove the antenna, so the piece that sticks out has been destroyed and w/out that piece you can't operate the cb. Or at least you don't want to w/out taking the chance of blowing a (can't remember which one right now) transistor or resistor. Not sure if the piece that sticks out can be taken out w/out destroying it. For those who have done the marshall mod and bought the fold down mount, is the joint held by a screw like the OEM cb antenna fold over adapter? I am thinking about a cheaper alternative that all I would have to buy would be: 1 203ez fold over adapter 1 stud mount # jbc930 oversize 1 18" 18smmpl pre made coax cable My thought is if the fold over adapter is held by a screw at the joint, I can take the screw out of the 203ez adapter and the screw out of the joint on the oem antenna, put the antenna where the top piece of the 203ez adapter used to be and screw it back together. I figure at worse, if it doesn't work, I already have some of the pieces to complete the marshall mod. So far thought I haven't been able to confirm if the 203ez joint is held in by a screw. Can anyone confirm? If you are not sure what I am talking about, I can send pics. Thanks. -
I have checked a parts fiche. year 1999 lists p/n 4XY88143-00-00. All other years lists p/n 4XY88143-10-00. Does anyone know if I can do a direct swap from a newer model year to a 1999 model year? I am just looking at the top antenna piece above the mounting bracket. Thanks.

Rear Truck cracks
Sideoftheroad replied to Tigger's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks. I checked last night and I do have those plates in the trunk. I asked the previous owner (bought the bike new) and he said he never did anything to the trunk. So I wonder if a dealer installed them for him and he just forgot (alot can happen over 9 yrs) or they were installed when he bought the bike. -

Mine is a 1999. The original owner said he didn't do anything. I need to check. From my understanding Yamaha doesn't manufacture the countermeasure kit anymore? Any reason why they don't? The countermeasure kit looks different than those plates from the picture. -

Sideoftheroad replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I thought there were only 2 fuse boxes. One behind the brake side, lower cowl and one behind the clutch side, side cover by the seat. Where is the 3rd one? I was really hoping for a paper copy of the service manual. I don't have a computer in the garage to look at the diagram. Would defeat the purpose to print out the manual from the download. Might as well buy it. Either way, it cost $$$ for ink and paper. Thanks. -

Rear Shock
Sideoftheroad replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
update. I took it in the dealer to check it out. They don't believe it is the shock. They showed me what they thought it was. So others might want to check too before thinking it is the shock. Just in case I sent them the pictures of what it looked like w/ the leak as the leak did stop. Whoever did the last oil change (wasn't the owner or the dealer I bought the bike from) put in a quart too much. They drained an extra quart of oil out. When looking at the window that shows you the oil level it was completely filled. The bike was level and had been sitting long enough for the engine to cool down. They said they like to have it in the middle of the hash marks. So from what they were saying is oil goes to the breather box (under the tank), since it is under pressure goes out the crankcase breather(?), towards the back of the bike, follows that plastic tray under the seat and down around the shock. They showed me all the gunk that had accumulated under the tank. They took some simple green around there and washed it off really good for me. They said allot of gunk came out when they cleaned it. They did say just in case keep an eye on it still. I went for probably 250 mile ride yesterday and did not have any bouncing issues or nothing like that. -

Not the screws. How/where to check the power to the horn. Thanks. -
...are not working. I know the one that is located by the rear right passenger peg, where is the other one located at? When I press the horn button, the horn is barely audible. Anyone heard of both of the stock horns going out?
