I own a '99. I have seen some refer to our scoot as just Ventures and some as Royal Star Ventures. There might have been one other one. I can understand using the term Venture being generic for all Ventures, but is there is a reason why some are called Royal Star Venture (if not all of them are called that)?

Tape deck door

Duct tape. It's the answer to everything. LOL -
Can anyone tell me what advantages there are to having a center stand. I have one and have tried using it a couple times. Frankly it is a PITA to use. Difficult to put up on the stand and it doesn't takes any of the wheels off the ground (yes I know that you can only have one off the ground at a time w/ a center stand). Only advantage I can think of to have one is when doing things like oil changes and checking the oil level. I think that can also be accomplished by putting a couple 2x4 blocks under the kickstand.

where to get a key made
Sideoftheroad replied to ventureblue's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Funny you should mention that. The Ace guy said way back in the day, Ford used 2 different cuts on each side of the key just like what he did for me. He said you could start 2 different Fords that way. -
Color01, How is the display in direct sunlight? I am looking pretty heavily at the Garmin Quest2 as I know someone that has the Quest1, the display is very visable in direct sunlight and overall seems to be a very good unit. I am planning on buying a GPS for my b-day so I have a little while before I purchase which gives me a little bit of time to research and decide. Thanks.

where to get a key made
Sideoftheroad replied to ventureblue's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
+1 on Ace. I bought the bike used and the ignition was replaced at one point so I was using 2 keys. One for ignition and one for the bags/trunk. I had one side cut for the ignition and one side cut for the bags/trunk. Works like a charm. You have to work the bags/trunk a little bit but it works. I am thinking about putting some graphite in the bags/trunk locks to help lubricate it a bit. -
Battery Tender
Sideoftheroad replied to jvbailey3's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Guess I don't understand. I have a 12 volt battery in my car and a 12 volt battery charger. Kinda hard to mess up, putting red to positive and black to ground or negative. W/out looking at the box in the garage, I believe this is the one I have http://store.schumachermart.com/se-520ma.html -
I did the Marshall mod and love it. I e-mailed him a couple times w/ questions and I got quick responses. Thanks again Bummer for helping get it setup. Hope your fingers have recovered by now. LOL

Bought the cable the other day. Works great. Although the shortest length I could find is 6'. Looks like one of my winter projects is taking out the cd player. Thanks for the tip.

As long as you give them your credit card info. (as part of the signing up process) you can get the free songs. I don't really agree w/ that so I refuse to sign up w/ Itunes. I know you are referencing other sites, just giving my Itunes opinion.

Battery Tender
Sideoftheroad replied to jvbailey3's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Strange thing about my Schumacher battery charger. Works fine on the Venture, but when I tried to use it on my older car (70's) it actually drained the battery all the way down. I even disconnected the battery from the car. No chances of messing that up. Could never figure out why. I followed the instructions and shouldn't have had any issues. So I plugged in my battery tender and it charged it up just fine. -
thanks for the info. I bought an ipod shuffle for around the same price from Best Buy. Looks like I need to go buy a connector and then I can remove my cd player. I know this is only 1gb and there are others out there that have more features and memory for the same price, but just don't know if I trust them enough and I haven't checked into whether they have those micro drives that are not good for using on the bikes like my older ipod. Didn't know the cassette player had a connector. Is it visible when you flip down the face plate or do you have to split the fairing to get to it?

Question on the Quest1. The picture from the link shows the map, speed, etc...the unit I saw in person did not have all that in one picture. You had to push a button to switch between the map and things like speed. Is that just an option that you can view all in one screen and another option that you can switch between these 2 views? I do want to look into other models as well now that people mention MP3 connection. I have been thinking about removing my cd player. Is there a way to connect the MP3 which is connected to the GPS to the bike speakers so you can hear it through my helmet speakers?

found him. http://cgi.ebay.com/Garmin-Quest-Pocket-sized-GPS-Navigator-1-Year-Wty_W0QQitemZ350136445432QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGPS_Devices?hash=item350136445432&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A570%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 They don't have the Quest2, but you can get the refurb'd Quest1 for $90-free shipping.

Didn't look at the feedback info., but about as cheap as it is going to get 119 + 7 shipping. 99.3 feedback, 10,285 items. http://cgi.ebay.com/Garmin-Quest-2-Portable-GPS-Navigation_W0QQitemZ370127639401QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGPS_Devices?hash=item370127639401&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A15%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 I can't find them right now, but someone else had it for around $140 + free shipping. 100% positive feedback, around 380 items and only 2 of those items were bought so you know he is a good seller.

I am looking at the Garmin Quest2 right now. I haven't pulled the trigger yet. This would be a stepup from what friesman is talking about. On this model it can hold the entire US maps. Last time I checked a vendor on e-bay had it for $140 refurbished. I was about to buy it, but the vendor didn't have it for sale anylonger. I check everyonce in a while and haven't seen it since. :-( I know a guy that has the Garmin Quest and another person that had a (I want to say) Zumo-not sure which model. Even though the Quest screen is smaller it was very viewable in direct sunlight. The other one I saw, you had to put your hand on top of the unit to see it.

winterizing tips
Sideoftheroad replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Don, Since I bought the battery this is the 1st time I have put it on the battery tender. Bike starts up everytime w/out any issues as if there was a constant drain on the battery. I can pull it and have it checked out but if the bike is charging too much, how is that corrected? I can at least say the old battery didn't have any corrosion on the post. -
After putting fuel stabilizer in and running the bike for a couple minutes does anyone turn the fuel petcock off to drain the carbs? Also I attached my batter tender the other day to the battery when I noticed corrosion on the (I believe) positive post. This is a new battery that I bought this summer so I shouldn't be having this problem. But from what I remember need to use baking soda or wife brush to clean it off. Can't remember what to use to keep it from coming back. Thanks.

It's for the optional seatbelt accessory.

Quick Release saddlebags
Sideoftheroad replied to 2Whlsrollin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Very similar compared to the black and decker set I bought. Only you have to use your own drill bit w/ the set I bought. I like how they showed in the video, use one side to round out the area, flip it over and screw comes right out. Also looks like you don't have to hit it w/ a hammer either to get it to grab. Glad you were able to get them out. -

Sideoftheroad replied to 2Whlsrollin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You can try a rotozip. Might be a bit big to use, but it will do the job for sure. I was thinking more of a dremel. Might even be able to take a triangle shaped file to cut a slit too. I think the rotozip or dremel would be good. Good idea on the PB Blaster too. Never thought about the nail idea. I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever need to. Another thought that I had to use recently is one of those Black/Decker(?) bolt back out kits. I bought one recently for the resevoir cover screws. One of the top screws was torn up, the screw sits flush so I couldn't cut a new slit. You take a drill to make a rounded surface, take one of the bolt back out pieces, take a hammer, rubber mallet, etc... hit it a couple times, and unscrew w/ a wrench, pliers, etc... Now that I am thinking about it, this is the same idea as the nail. -

Problem with my Clairon CD layer
Sideoftheroad replied to a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not sure but I think that is what happened to me too. Plugged it in, hand controls didn't recognize it. Unplugged/plugged it back in a few times and now it works. probably just didn't push it in far enough. Been thinking about ditching the cd player myself as my full face helmet doesn't fit inside the trunk now.- 5 replies

Larry, Is this you on e-bay? Just looks awefully familiar if someone is copying the design. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-VENTURE-ROYALSTAR-YAMAHA-JACK-LIFT-ADAPTER_W0QQitemZ250317565898QQihZ015QQcategoryZ35557QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem -

Can you cut a slit across the top and use a flat head screwdriver?
