  1. I have heard of people using golf grip tape before. Never tried it. My left side has come loose too.
  2. Shouldn't be a problem unless you plan on going over 130 mph http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/?page=technical&subpage=tech_speed
  3. I think this would take care of any deer in your path
  4. On the bike I sold last year, I had removable baffles. The baffling to me looks like housing insullation. But over time it gets singed and doesn't baffle as much. So probably just getting broken in which will make it a little louder.
  5. Seems like the top 2 choices on this forum are either Avon Venoms or E3's. I would buy E3's over Metzelers. For Ventures, I would not buy Metzelers. Even though I did not experience it, from all the reports of chunk's falling off while riding, is enough to scare me away from getting another set. Everyone's experiences are different. Some have run Metzelers and no issues and some have not. I know people that have roadstars or roadliners (can't remember which right now) with Metzeler issues similar to what is being reported here. I am not sure how many miles were on the set I had on as I bought the bike used from a dealer. I know the previous owner, but from asking him other questions about the bike I know he won't remember when he got them. I had over 4k miles on the Metzelers since I owned the Venture and no issues except the front was worn. Just seems like the Metzelers' being a softer compound are more for lighter bikes IMO. I had them on my VTX1300 before I traded it and I had like 7k miles on that set. It still had the little nubs on it. I think those would have lasted a very long time.
  6. Metzeler's came on my bike when I bought it recently. I didn't have any issues with them either. The front was worn so I replaced them both with E3's. The handling is like day and night, can't even describe the differences. I don't think you will be disappointed. The mechanice at the dealer test rode it after they were done and said he is going to start recommending them. Previously he was recommending Dunlop D404's (I think that is the model #). Bob, Guess I forgot for you to test drive my bike at the last meeting so you could feel the difference. If you come to the ride on Sunday (weather permitting) you are welcome to take it for a spin.
  7. http://www.hangoutatflames.com/id29.html Not my bike but I kid him every once in a while that it looks like a pumpkin on 2 wheels. LOL It is a nice looking scoot.

  9. Yup I remember your id. I might have you confused w/ someone else, but didn't you have an avatar of a panther or something (like from a sports team)
  10. I don't think you will notice much difference (besides fairing, trunk, bags, etc...) between the VTX1800 and the Venture (I just traded my VTX1300 for the Venture in June and I was setting it up like a touring bike too). Just have to remember that the Venture has a higher stance so feels more top heavy.
  11. I will 1st start off by saying I am a GM guy (kinda have to be, father-in-law retired from AC Delco, but I do like the product) I think the gov't is going to make an example of GM. They already started by asking for the former CEO's resignation. I don't recall them asking the others to do that. Just heard on the radio this morning of the big 3, Ford is not asking for further money. They said they have enough. I will say that I am not a Ford guy. I had 2 of them in the past and the electrical issues on both of them have turned me off. Yeah I know that others have had other brands with electrical issues (including GM), but I have not had that experience (yet). So need to comment what issues we have had with different brands. So I am saying I commend Ford for not taking any more money (at this time). Agree on the GM price comment too. I will take the Aveo for example, $12,685 for a base coupe model. IMO, should be about the 9500 to 10k range (since all cars are overpriced anyway, but who doesn't have overhead). New Camaro is supposed to come out in 2010 (from what I remember). Shouldn't be more than $18-23k, but I am willing to be they will put it in the $30k range, which will put it out of reach of most buyers.
  12. Nice looking 1300S. I traded my '04 1300S back in June for my Venture. Is that the Extreme Revolution fairing? By chance were you ever on the VTXOA forum? What was your id? Here's a pic of mine. I went through many transformations over the years before I traded it http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/img_6193.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/DSC00583.jpg (do those bags look familiar? LOL I was in the middle of another transformation when I traded it) http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/04152007E.jpg (Yes I know the flags are not at the top, wasn't done on purpose. Never could get them to stay up and ended up taking them off) I have Baron's Nasty Boy Bag Slash slip-on pipes and they sound great IMO. There are others that have Baron's 4-2-4's that love them too.
  13. http://www.utpr.com/rsv.html Even comes w/ a pocket in the back. It came with my bike when I bought it last year. Mine is '99 model yr.
  14. I got a speeding ticket in Nov. in Ohio. We will see what State Farm does to me. If it skyrockets, I will be looking elsewhere. Especially in this economy, can't really afford much more than what I was paying. In my opinion, insurance companies shouldn't raise rates for any reason, period. You pay rates to cover things when it comes time for payable claims. They are an insurance co., they have to keep funds in reserves just for claims alone. It defeats the purpose of having insurance by raising rates IMO. Might as well pay out of pocket instead. Considering I hadn't had a speeding ticket prior to that in like 10 yrs, they should take that into consideration but doubt they will. If that is the route they want to pursue, then I will tell them I will find some other company. Couple years ago wife and I were considering switching everything from State Farm to Allstate. I never cancelled State Farm. After getting the 1st round of paperwork from the agent he had marked several things that I didn't authorize. Honestly can't remember what those items are right now but I could probably still find it if I cared to look. It seemed it was stuff like I had such and such item on the house (like a barn or something), when I didn't. I typically don't throw things away (heck I still have paystubs from like '94 from places I don't work for anymore). Anyway, I had him redo it. This time the paperwork was formatted completely different. Couldn't understand that, as the paperwork came out of the same printer. Went over the documentation again and found different inconsistencies. It was saving me around $300-$400 annually (from what I remember, it could have been more like $200 as far as I know at this point), but I dumped Allstate w/in a week. In the process I spoke to a C.S. Rep supervisor about it who asked for whatever State Farm documenation showing I still had coverage. The supervisor said he would personally call me. I questioned him about it and he said he would do it. At least he actually did it on the day he said he would. I did pay the agent for the insurance and when talking to the supervisor he said I would get a refund. He never mentioned how much, but I was expecting a full refund. After thinking about it, I technically used or had Allstate coverage for a short period. I calculated how much it cost for the time frame that I "used" the coverage for and what I got back was about the difference between the 2, so I didn't pursue it further. Anyway from that one experience, I am staying away from Allstate. For the most part everyone seems to be happy with their insurance coverage until you have to file a claim.
  15. Stay away from Markel. Friend of mine got in a wreck and was told was not his fault and also got it in writing from the insurance co. They later tried to go back and say it was his fault so he got a lawyer. After a surgery on his hand and the other injuries healed, they went back to the insurance company. They tried to settle for like $2500. They produced the letter and ended up it was signed by a claims supervisor. Settlement went from $2500 to $25,000. Case closed. After he got his check, paid the lawyer, paid the medical bills, paid for a brand new Honda VTX in full, and still had some money left over. It always kills me when you want to file a claim w/ your ins. co and they say if you do we will raise your rates. Doesn't that in a way defeat the purpose of having ins.? Don't know if it works this way for Auto insurance, but at least in Health and Life Insurance each state has a dept of insurance you can file complaints with. They have a time frame that a response has to be given.
  16. +3 LOL Loved Milwaukee Iron show. It went off the air, checked their web-site one day and found out Gary (I think that is his name) had died. That guy was a real cool. I think they even did the Lucas Oil bike if I am not mistaken. Is OCC even still on TV? I have e-mailed OCC a couple times. Come to find out at least on 2 occassions the corporations they build them for typically don't keep them. Here's what they told me about the Shelby and Lincoln bikes when the Shelby bike was found on e-bay" We built 4 Lincoln bikes per their request, we own the original, one is in California purchased off EBay, the other two where given away by Lincoln as sales promotions. That's pretty interesting. Just from watching the show I would have thought these bikes wouldn't get sold. Especially the ones for corporations. I have a 2004 Honda VTX. There is an awesome forum http://www.vtxoa.com/forums/index.php that someone posted about the Shelby bike. The guy didn't even spell Carroll correctly so I assumed it was a fraudulent posting. Especially when he put on there the OCC bikes do not sell for less than $1 million. Way too much money is right. I just checked out the Barrett-Jackson web-site. The Shelby bike sold for $104,500. In the same thread about the Shelby bike someone posted that a dealership bought the Lincoln bike. Thanks again. Jerry. 17. Considering they weren't able to remove the pins on my bike, I am not sure if there is anything for me to worry about. The only thing that dealer has ever done to my bike is change the tires which was last week. Please let me know what you think I need to worry about. I am worried about the comments they made about one some of the bikes they have changed tires on, the pins very easily just fell out. If it needs a snap ring, then there's an issue IMO.
  18. Wonder if you can go to a dealer and see if they have a used one they have recently taken off a bike to see if they will let you cut it and take a picture?
  19. Called them and told them about the snap ring. He said that holds the bearings in place. It does not keep the pins in place. I haven't taken a wheel off or taken pins out, they have and so has freebird. so not sure at this point. Logic would dictate that something holds them in place or they would flop around while riding around town. What that something is, I don't know. Guess the only way to know for sure, is to do it myself. Since I don't have the tools and also am afraid of doing this myself, guess I will have to watch someone else w/ a 2nd gen do it. Maybe a good excuse to ride to Freebird's tech session.
  20. I think I found out why the pins didn't come out. I found this in Freebirds article on rear hub lubrication "Wipe around the top edge of the gear clean and you will find a snap ring. Look carefully because it is hard to miss. Use a pair of snap ring pliers that open to remove the ring and lift it off or gently grab it with a pair of pliers being careful not to stretch the ring. If you do not remove this ring you will be unable to remove the pins from the hub (I know this Cuz this dummy tried to do it!) After you have removed the ring pull on the gear and the pins should slide out." After reading that and the tech saying he has had some that come right out, that kinda worries me that other bikes no longer have that snap ring. I will need to call them tomorrow.
  21. Kevin, It has happened to me a few times already. Saddlebag hinge a couple times, the passenger grab rail once, I have a saddlebag trim rail loose now, and had one of the chrome lower wind deflector that attaches to the forks loose too. Seems like there was one more, but can't think of it right now. Oh yeah, shifter bolt, which led to my ignorance and a costly clutch replacement. Got that trunk rack on yet?
  22. The dealer did have one issue, I had them use moly grease (they didn't have Honda 60 moly) on the splines and I also wanted them to do the pins. Well not sure if the pins have ever been removed or removed in a very long time. They couldn't even create a gap to get the pins out. There is no gap there and they seem to be rusted shut. The tech said he changed one the other day and it practically fell out w/out any problems. He just said try and score one off of like e-bay at the next tire change, bring it in and they will swap out the wheel too. Forgot to mention, just to throw this out there, I asked the dealer about tire pressure. At least from their experience 42 in the rear and 40 in the front to them is where you can get the most mileage out a set of tires for the Ventures. How the came to that determination and all that, I don't know. It is just what they recommend based on their experience with MC tires in general. Bob, I'll be happy to let you test drive it at the next meeting so you can feel the difference yourself.
  23. George, I had the D404's on the previous bike which I sold last June. When I sold it, it had metzelers on, so count about 6000 miles before I sold it, that is the last time I had the D404s. Confused you?
