  1. you guys are funny. I installed my back up shock last night. I shook the old shock and at least there was still something in there. I could hear the liquid swooshing around. I pulled down the boot too. Not sure if it is supposed to be waterproof or not but there was liquid on the inside of the boot too. I should have it back all together soon and take a test ride either Thursday or Saturday. Cross your fingers the spare shock doesn't leak.
  2. Cougar, The foam gasket was soaked. Thanks for the tip on where to get new ones.
  3. Randy, Thanks for pointing that out. Oil is at 1/2 way point in the window. That's the reason why I mentioned the filters are clean. I could be wrong but I would think if the oil was overfilled, then the filters would be coated w/ oil too. I don't even see a drop.
  4. Pulled the air filters, they are brand new (few months old now) and they are still clean. So whatever is causing this is after the air box. It is affecting just the left side of the carbs. You can see the metal bands on the left side have all sorts of crud around them. The right side are clean. Also there is a round box for the throttle cables. Directly below it is the dog bone that bolts from the frame to the engine. Behind the bolt closest to the fairing it is sticky w/ something. You can see part of the harness is wet. You can also see that the throttle box is wet too. Last picture you can barely see it but on the right side it has one of those clips to hold the tubing in place. The left side does not. Doubt it has any bearing on this issue, but just putting all the info. I can out there just in case. And lastly I noticed the choke was partially out. I have a habit of checking it repeatedly to make sure it is pushed in all the way. So what would happen to a bike leaning on it's kickstand for a day w/ the choke partially out. That's oil on the outside of the carbs and I can't smell gas so I again don't think this has any bearing on the issue, but throwing it out there. Thanks for any suggestions. http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/Venture/Leak%20052009/P1010002.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/Venture/Leak%20052009/P1010003.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/Venture/Leak%20052009/P1010007.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/Venture/Leak%20052009/P1010010.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/Venture/Leak%20052009/P1010015.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/Venture/Leak%20052009/P1010016.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/Venture/Leak%20052009/P1010017.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/Venture/Leak%20052009/P1010019.jpg
  5. When I 1st bought the bike thought the shock could be leaking. Dealer checked it out and at least they thought it wasn't the shock. Have to go back through my posts because I can't remember their explanation any more. I haven't had any problems since until now. Dealer did just recently do a service on it 60k (I believe) too. Could they not have tightened something down correctly which is causing fluid to leak towards or around the shock? Just not sure what fluids the bike has that would be reddish. It's a reddish color so it isn't engine oil. The bottom of the shock is wet. http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/Venture/Leak%20052009/P1010004.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/Venture/Leak%20052009/P1010005.jpg
  6. His fault, ummm I mean his friends fault. Depends on his deductible too. Might have a higher deductible than it would cost out of pocket and also most likely will raise his rates for filing the claim. Just as a guess.
  7. I would be interested in a couple.
  8. I have had him for guessing around 30+ yrs. Sometimes lately he has been a real pain, but I lost a dear friend today. Now I just feel like I have a big hole inside me. RIP lower left wisdom tooth.
  9. found this link too. Shows what the bike looked like. Just warning you, it is not pretty http://www.krem.com/topstories/stories/krem2-051009-fatalaccident.13026071.html
  10. Bob, All I can do is echo the sympathies of others. I can't imagine if I was on the bike w/ any of my kids and this were to happen. I would go nuts. I had often thought of letting my oldest daughter ride when she gets old enough to reach the floorboards flat footed. This does make you think twice. I just about bit the dust this morning. In this case I can't say it would have been the other person's fault. They were in my blind spot and I thought they were behind me when I changed lanes. After I got in front of the truck, I figure the driver probably slowed down for me or else I would have hit it. Regardless of fault, it has been a # of years since I have taken MSF. I have been wanting to retake it.
  11. By chance is this Kate?
  12. When I bought my bike, it already had the tach on it. How do you change the colors?
  13. Try moving your handlebars all the way to the left and then all the way to the right and see if the noise goes away. Sounds strange I know, but try it and let us know.
  14. Not sure about 1st Gens, but I didn't think Progressive made them for 2nd gens. Could be wrong. Anyone?
  15. Dealer offered me a chance to test ride it, so I did. I had to ask them several times to make sure they were serious. They said yes, so off I went. Nice nimble little bike. Not sure I would would take it cross country or anything like that, but had fun. I think it would be good for putting around town on. But it did sit way too high for me. At least I could get 1 foot flat on the ground when I leaned over at a stop light. Probably could have gotten pulled over for unsafe start too or whatever they want to call it. I kinda hammered it at a stop light, but I will say that I didn't go over the speed limit, I just took the quickest route to get to the speed limit. http://www.metriccruisers.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I looked over and sure enough there was a cop sitting on the side of the road, but they didn't do anything.
  16. That's the exact reason why I got rid of them when I had my VTX. The issue is the side that keeps spinning (the brake side if I remember right), the bolts needs to be a reverse thread. I e-mailed Kury about it and they sent me a new adapter that had some ridges on it. It helped but it didn't solve the problem. Others have fixed it by either drilling a hole and screwing in their own set screw or they used a hardening compound like liquid nails (I can't think of the name of the clear stuff that most people use). Ended up buying Iso rounds and didn't have any issues after that.
  17. The one from Progressive and HD are one in the same. If you want the one from Progressive, find the one w/ their logo as the one with the HD logo is more expensive.
  18. I wish I knew where, but I saw a chrome one on a bike before. Who knows maybe someone just used chrome paint. Is there some sort of holder like that for Goldwings?
  19. I have both on my bike. The mini bib towards the bottom of the tank isn't sticking very well at all. Not sure how long it has been on there as it came w/ the bike. There is a guy making custom tank bibs for the VTX's. I thought for a winter project I would see if he would make me new ones in leather. I will check out Troy's stuff as well. I wonder if it all could be made as one piece.
  20. The CPU fan is working. I am not sure if it is a power supply fan, but it is below the power supply and it is working too. Now let me ask this. They are there to cool the components. Are there any negative effects for having one side of the case open for any period of time? The reason why I asked is with Norton Ghost I have the hardest time with it recognizing my CDR drive when you use the boot disk so I had to get a 1.44 floppy and installed it in the e-machine temporarily until I could do the backup. I left the one side open for a while longer (couple weeks). The pc is in the basement and quite frankly a very cool basement. We usually have to put on a sweater and pants even on warm days.
  21. I am not in the computer field, so I can only say what I think the issue is. If you have suggestions on how to check for those items, please let me know. At least to me on a hardware issue, I would say it is the HD since it freezes. At this point, it won't even go to the desktop anymore when it boots up. Also since I tried to a Norton Ghost and that didn't work, that leads me to believe the HD. The next step I want to try is to use Partition Magic, do a complete reformat of the HD and do Norton Ghost again. I still get video and it still registers the total memory installed. I know that isn't a guarantee that doesn't mean one of those items is not the issue, just not sure how to test for that. Makes me wonder if emachines/Dell manufacture their motherboards, video cards, etc...I doubt it but you never know. If not, wouldn't I be able to go to each of the manufacturer's site and download the appropriate drivers? I know rjg1985 also mentioned about the drivers too. I just wasn't able to comment more about the drivers until now.
  22. At least for now, I am not able to access the e-machine since the HD is pretty much gone at this point. I do have internet access at work and at home. I have a loaner pc from a friend that I am able to get on the internet with at home. It is pretty slow. Takes about 15 minutes before I can even get on the internet (seriously I have timed it). I think of it more like one of those spiral lightbulbs. I think it gets faster as the machine warms up. LOL I can see what you mean on the drivers. Most of the things that I have are not emachine equipment, meaning keyboard, monitor, mouse, printer, etc... so I would have to install manufacturer driver's anyway if they don't preload when the new software is installed. I think I am facing a HD replacement also so that would be newer than the XP software. emachine support was not of any help when I talked to them due to the age of the computer.
  23. I do have a product key, but no XP cd to use. Prior to 2006, emachine used a recovery partition on their hard drive and after you boot up you get a window asking if you want to make a recovery cdr. Well I never made the recovery cdr, which is my fault. So w/out a CD, then I can't do anything. If I had a serial from an emachine manufactured after 2005, I can go to the emachine website and order a cd for much cheaper than buying the OS legally. I think I understand what you are saying though in that I borrow someone's cd and use my product key. The access I have to the free XP copy is downloadable not a hard copy. But I don't want to go that route.
  24. I have an emachine (yeah I know all the past unreliability about it before emachine was bought out). I bought it in 2005 and I will say that ever since I have owned it, it has been a very reliable machine (until now). Of course I don't use it for much else other than surfing the web and storing photos. I really don't have use for a computer beyond that. It started acting really slow. Antivirus and spybot didn't pickup on anything. So I decided it was time to wipe the hard drive clean and start over. I backed everything up (including the recovery partition) to my USB HD and used the recovery partition. For whatever reason it didn't work and the pc kept freezing. I also have Norton Ghost which I saved an image a couple months ago. I restored the image and that didn't work (usually does). I tried burning the recovery partition files to a dvd-r and see if it will boot from pc and recover from there. That didn't work. I contacted emachine to see if I could get a recovery cd as one was not provided when I bought it brand new. Well come to find out that if it was manufactured prior to 2006 (mine was in 2005) that they didn't supply recovery cd's. What I did find out that the last 2 digits of the serial is the year built. So for me the last 2 are 50, which stands for 2005. I guess my fault on not creating a restoration cd. They give you the opportunity to do it when you boot the pc, but for whatever reason I decided not to. I don't have $100's for a new pc, or a new HD and OS. I have seen the OS's on e-bay for dirt cheap, but honestly I don't trust them enough to buy from there in cases like this. So what I am asking is anyone else has an emachine if you can check your serial to see if yours was manufactured 2006 and after. If so can you PM me your serial so I can order a recovery cd? I have XP home edition. I can't use Vista. It is a system hog and my pc won't be able to handle it. I know how to get a free copy of XP, but honestly I want a legal copy. Thanks. Jerry
  25. 1 solid green light unless I am using the brake (like at a stop light) Put mine on the triple tree as well. Don't remember where I tied the power wire to.
