New Antenna Installs
Sideoftheroad replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Seaking, I had a thought. If you replaced the stock antennas with 2 tunable Firefly's then I won't matter which side the cb antenna is on as both antennas are the cb and radio antennas. This means it won't matter how the cables are plugged into the box under the trunk. If that is the case, then I would suspect the connection in the fairing or maybe the a loose connection somewhere. Maybe the connector in the fairing wasn't pushed all the way in or when putting it all together, something just not connected up right. Might even try putting the stock cb cable back in and and put it together from there (I think I remember you said you did replace yours). When the bike is all apart all you would have to do is unplug the ones that are currently there and plug in the stock cable. You wouldn't have to put everything back together to test it. I didn't replace my cb cable and it worked from the getgo. If you did like me and bought one tunable firefly and one am/fm antenna, then it would matter and would start w/ the cables under the trunk. Especially if the stock cb antenna was on the right side and you setup the tunable firefly cb antenna on the left side but kept the cables the same. Switching the cables should fix it at that point I would think. Keep us posted. -
At least some of the use the same shock as when I had my '04 Honda VTX. Showa I believe is the brand name of the shock.

Not to Hijack, but want to say this. Assuming you are in the military, but regardless be safe out there. Watched a show last night on National Geographic about Green Berets in Afghanistan. Very eye opening. Unfortunately they had 2 fatalities. It was pitch black, and there was an military truck (Afghan I believe) in the back of the convoy with its' lights on. Might as well painted a target (in reality that is what they did) on the humvee in front of the truck. Before they cut to a commercial the screen went blank and you heard an explosion. Went to another channel during the commercials and didn't make it back in time. Flipped back and they were talking about the 2 soldiers they had lost that day. I am assuming it was RPG as they exploded at least 7 IED's before they starting going up the hill. To all the military past and present, Thank you for all you do!!!!! Green Beret One of the video clears it up, it was an IED.

You aren't the only one. I went with them and had no issues. I think others didn't like it either. Could be on the Blue Dolphin site or another posting for an fixed mount alternative -

I guess I wouldn't know about such things, would I Steve? -
30's/40's in the morning. Still riding. Don't have any heated gear, so will ride as long as I can stand it (and weather permitting, rain, snow, etc...)

Seeking, Hopefully it will be an easy fix. All I can say is when Bummer put it together for me and he got the SWR set, it has been running great day 1. I know I didn't buy a new cb cable. I just didn't want to mess with it and I asked around. Consensus was those cables didn't need to be replaced unless you want to replace them. Even though I didn't have to, I bought a new am/fm cable so I went ahead and Bummer put it in for me. At least I think we replaced it. I couldn't find it in the garage so I am assuming we did. I am (obviously) electronically challenged so Bummer put things in easy to understand term's for me. Don't do this or that or else you will see the magic blue smoke. It was blue right Bummer??? Hopefully nothing like that happened. Unless someone posts "Don't do it" might want to try and switch the 2 cables from the black box under the trunk to see if that fixes it. This will confirm if cb was put back into the correct spot or not. Just guessing it wouldn't matter which side you put the am/fm on. -
Glad to hear you have seen the light now. LOL.

From your 1st posting, is the middle pic of the polished plate? Guessing the 5th pic is Don's? Looks like from the colors they are the same '99 color as what I have.

Was gonna wait until you actually got them in, but based on the postings, thought that would be a bad idea. Payment sent for 1 2nd Gen. Thanks

Get the feeling these are going to go fast. Put me down for 1 2nd gen.

Looked at the cost of the fairing you bought. Guess it pretty much evens out. I bought an HD fairing when I had my VTX. Cost $125 on ebay (some have gotten them for less) and paint around $250-$300.

What is the best way to remove a decal from a windshield?

Might be interested in this one and a VR.org logo pin. Let us know if/when you get those reordered Don. Just need more details, cost and all. Thanks Jerry.

just clarifying. Are you saying the billable weight is the max weight? Do you know if they charge by the billable or actual weight?
-
Got a couple estimates today to ship some parts (2 boxes) and was in sticker shock. To give an example, one box was 37 x 25 x 11 and actual weight 14 lbs. They put on the estimate 53 lbs billable weight for a cost of $36.50. I went to usps.com and it says $68 for 5 day parcel post. I reduced the dimensions to see if it would give me a different cost. Narrowed it down to 36 x 24 x 11 and it gave me $17.00. Apparently 1" on 2 of the dimensions makes a difference. The other box, UPS estimated cost of $33 and usps gave $17.00 for 5 day parcel post. I am guessing UPS is charging by billable weight and not actual weight? Anyone know?

CB & radio Antenna

Bummer, I want to say there was something else too. It might just have to deal with the connector I had or the one I got from you, but I seem to remember a connector had like 2 teeth (one on each side of each other) and you took a file to cut a groove in the mount for those teeth to fit in. If you aren't sure what I am referring to, I will try and get pics for everyone to see. -
yup. That's how you do it.
