Did it in '07 when I had my VTX. Gotta say I was disappointed. Planning on being back there in July as part of STAR Days. Will see if my experience will be any different.

Not sure if this has been covered before, but I was adding a 3 female aux splitter last night so I had to split the fairing. I don't do it that often, but often enough to were I tried to figure out a solution to not have to remove the lightbar anymore. This is what I was able to come up with. Not sure if you can get any longer bolts in there. In my vast collection of bolts and spacers, I found 1 3/4" bolts and 1 1/4" spacer. This leaves 1/2" of thread sticking out. This is also how much thread that is sticking out from the stock bolt and spacer. So this moves the lightbar out and still looks good IMO. Only untested thing is to split the fairing again to see if I can remove the fairing w/out unbolting the light bar.

Had mine for less than one riding season in the trunk where everyone else installed theirs. Too much skipping. After I took it out, I opened up the fairing installed a splitter and ran an extra line to the front of the fairing for mp3. Now that I have GPS w/ built in player I am gonna run it all through GPS. Don't believe the IPOD is waterproof anyway. I was tugging on the extra cable earlier today and it actually came unplugged :-(. That's ok because I just bought a 3 female splitter today. So I have to open it back up anyway. I will have one line to the GPS and another line for whatever else I can come up w/. Like Bummer, mine is collecting dust. It is sitting on one of the shelves in the garage.

Baron Tach and Ponch's gauge set
Sideoftheroad replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wish the garage was heated. When it gets warmer I am going to start my winter projects. I'll give it a shot. Biggest challenge I would think is getting it mounted to the gauge plate as I doubt there is any screw sticking out the back or anything like that to be able to mount it to a bracket. Not sure if there is a way to hold it in via tension or if you are absolutely sure this is what you want to do, maybe tack weld it into the bracket. In the meantime anyone else that wants to try it, let us know.- 51 replies

LilBeaver, You are the 1st confirmed person that actually got theirs. I ordered mine around Nov. or Dec and haven't gotten it yet. Pretty much everyone that ordered one around the same time on the STAR Touring forum have not gotten theirs either. I actually called STAR motorcylcles and did the link. So just warning others it could take a few months to get it. update: Just checked the STAR Touring forum. They are starting to trickle in now. Thanks for posting.

I don't think there is any real data on if/when it goes out. Might be riding style? 1 up, 1 up w/ trailer, 2 up, 2 up w/trailer, etc.... Other than that there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when they go out. Mine went out around 60k. I do remember seeing some as low as like 10k.

Looking at my 2730, Audion Notification is on, Visual Notification is on, Continuous notification is set for speed alerts only. I assume I need to change it to all alerts, is that correct? I did download POI loader to install the VR assistance file. Only software I have are the USB drivers and City Navigator North America 2009.

Also don't get it confused w/ excess oil when you do an oil change. That will also dump out in the same spot and look like a leaking shock. Look for a reddish color. I had both issues after owning my bike. Previous shop (other than the one that I bought the bike from) overfilled the oil so I thought the shock was leaking. While waiting for the shop I bought the bike from to look at it, I went ahead and bought one from e-bay for $125 from an '08 (I think). Gamble I know, but it paid off. Dealer determined it was overfilled oil, they showed me the oil level, which the window was completely filled. Sometime down the road the shock started leaking, so swapped them out and have been riding happily ever sense. http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/Venture/Leak%20052009/P1010004.jpg http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc121/lylejt/Bike%20Pics/Venture/Leak%20052009/P1010005.jpg

Sorry. Should be a little more clear. We did a hard reset because the touchscreen doesn't work. They hoped that would solve the issue. As a result I lost the icons.
-
When I 1st got it, I could see icons for restaurants, gas stations, etc...on the map while I was driving. When I called Garmin on my issue, they had me to a hard reset so now all that is gone. Any ideas on how to get them back? Looked at the manual and doesn't seem to help. Thanks.

L.M.A.O. The proper way to park a 2nd Gen

We had an a/c unit and it crapped out literally 1 week before the 10 yr anniversary. Been told that is their expected lifetime and that as well for a heat pump. We replaced it w/ a Bryant heat pump system. Cooler air does come out of the registers and some people do not like that. Dial one did ours about 14-15 months ago. Many of the suggestions on this board they did: took into consideration room and house dimensions, window locations, etc...Took all the info. and calculated why type of system would work good for our house w/out overworking the new heat pump system. We have a programmable thermostat too. One of their suggestions that we did not follow is to run the blower 24/7. Don't agree w/ that because the blower uses electricity which means higher electric bill. Defeats the purpose of saving $$$$. Sure saves on the gas bill, but not looking for an electric bill to sky rocket. Our system does switch over around 25-30 degrees. Don't remember the exact # right now. All I can say is with Dial one, I am mostly happy with them. Besides screwing us over for an extra $500 at the end of the deal and calling it whatever b.s. fee was just wrong. I think he gave himself and/or the person that did the financing an extra commission. Just my opinion and will never be proven. The opposite end of that I got on heck of warranty covered by Dial One that I wonder if anyone could touch and it didn't cost me any extra(probably was already built into the purchase price anyway). I will have to look at all the paperwork to see what all it does. But I remember lifetime this and lifetime that. Never have to worry about paying for anything if/when it breaks down. Also added a whole house humidifier. I am sure opinions vary about their worth just like the different types of systems. I am a pack rat when it comes to our bills, but I haven't compared the cost of the old a/c unit compared to the heat pump. Maybe this will be enough motivation to get some #'s for you. One of the sales point was electricity costs less to run than gas. We usually keep the house at 68 degrees year round. Our biggest culprit for heat loss is doors, windows and electrical outlets. Yes even the outlets. One some of them I can feel a breeze. I tried one of those foam things but still feel the breeze. Suppose I could squirt some of that expanding foam on the sides of the outlet if I can get the nozzle positioned right. On the windows the breeze isn't coming from loose caulking or what have you. It is actually coming from the bottom of the window where it is supposed to meet the window frame when you close it. Can still feel a breeze there. It is kinda like even though the window is shut all the way, it is just a tad small to completely close the gap at the bottom. Believe it not on those commercials for the things you slide under the bottom of a door or window do work. We have them under a couple doors and don't feel breezes under them anymore. Haven't done them to the windows to see. Our new furnace model # is Bryant Plus 80v. The furnace manual says model # 315AAV/JAV & and heat pump manual says Bryant 223A/224A/225A. I know there are higher efficency models but like someone else said, We bought the highest value we could afford. We have a 3k square footage (believe that includes the garage). Our only thing was when the a/c crapped out it was freaking cold out so we had a sense of urgency to get heat again. Wished we could have done some more window shopping and gotten more bids.

trailer registration woes. Please Help!
Sideoftheroad replied to jimmyenglish's topic in Watering Hole
At the Carmel branch, a long wait anymore is about 5 minutes. It used to be a huge problem. Good info. Dano as I am looking to buy a H.F. trailer from a board member here in about a month. -
The engine that is in there now is a Jasper. Like what others are saying it had an issue in that it was leaking antifreeze but it wasn't going on the ground. Going right back into the engine, so dad had to replace it. I think that was around 35k miles. At least from the piece covering the engine it seems to be the same as the 2001 or 2002 impala I used to own.

Any one tried taking apart the Baron's tach to see if it will fit as a gauge for Ponch's gauge set? I unscrewed the main cap and the face of the tach looks to be just the right size. I can see using a small plexiglass square infront of the tach face for protection. Can use weather sealant to keep the plexiglass attached to Ponch's plate.

I was on the North Carolina a few years back. I was amazed. I wish we could have seem more of the mechanics of the ship but it was great anyway. Father in law was w/ me and he bought a piece of the original decking. I bought a baby shirt for my middle son w/ a navy uniform printed on it. 2nd son is wearing it now. My dad served in the USAF and he was telling me he was onboard a ship once (I am not sure which one). Sounded like the Navy made him a potato peeler. LOL. He just said he worked in the galley.

I have a '99 Buick Lesabre Custom that my dad gave to me. 140k miles and running strong. He talked about he babied it and never let it go over 1500 rpm. All I can say is I don't drive like my dad

Thank you Don.

Yeah, the Saints might get close. LOL. All kidding aside, I am sure the entire state is beaming w/ pride. I believe it will be a good game to watch for sure. Wonder which team papa Manning is rooting for? Wonder how many 1sts the number crunchers have figured this one out? How many SB teams have there been where the QB's father used to play on the opposing team. Good luck to both teams.

Throwing across the grain is difficult for any QB, even for a 4 time league MVP with a team that is going to the superbowl. -
