  1. Must have been a left handed Roto-Zip Condor was using cuz my right handed one works fine.
  2. All Indiana riders...Ok everyone going to MD, have a safe journey there and back home. Post lots of pics for those who can't make it.
  3. Took a chance when mine went out around 60k and found a used one on e-bay for $125. I have like 68k on the scoot now and it the used one has been working for me just fine.
  4. Anyone have this unit? Not thinking about buying it. I was at a friend's house last night and he installed this unit in his Venture. It is made for hotrods, classic cars and such so it is not waterproof. He did get caught in a downpour once but he said the unit itself didn't get wet. He said moisture still got in it and after a couple days it cleared up. He was scared there for a bit that he might be losing the radio after he just bought it due to this. He took out the cassette player, but the amplifier in its' place. He said it was the same size and put the face plate where the cassette door used to be. He likes the controls much better. They way he did it, he did remove the Venture Controls on the handlebar. The only thing he lost is CB, but he doesn't use it anyway. http://www.dreamershotrods.com/customautosoundsecretaudiossthiddenradio.aspx
  5. Monty, Tried all those places and struck out except for Lusco (maybe). Since 2.5 is close enough to 2 5/8 I asked for 2" x 2.5" x 6' x 1/8" and he just said oh $15. He said he has it, but I do have my doubts. He made a general statement that they have anything I would need. I did measure the wall thickness and it is 1/8" Doesn't seem to be a magic solution to this based on everything I am reading. Sounds like some that don't extend it, don't have issues and some did but once they extended the tongue the issue went away. This might be based on individual setup, how the load is distributed, etc... Sounds like you just have to experiment. Start w/out modifying it, hit the highway and have someone trail you. If it sways at high speeds, then move it up to the hole 10" from where it is currently located at and try it again. If it still does it, start looking at the 1.5-2 x the axle length rule of thumb.
  6. Casa, Do I really need to be worried about getting it exactly 1.5 - 2 x the axle length or do you think moving it up 10" would be sufficient? If I move it up 10" I will be short 7". I can move it up 17" and drill a couple holes. It would be awefully close to the front though, but at least it would be supported by 2 cross members instead of 1. Would like to still have 1 cross member in the middle for support. I could always get a piece from the metal places we have been mentioning as a cross member and at least that way wouldn't have to worry so much about dimensions. Thoughts?
  7. Monty, Called Instant Metal and they don't have anything that could come close to 2 x 2 5/8. They had 1.5 x 4 and other than that sounded like it would be smaller. Will try the others later today during lunch. Place I found online yesterday is called yardarm, located in indianapolis. Hate to go down all that way, but do what I have to I guess if I can't find any other place. This is the place that for total of $25-$30 I can get the metal (2"x3"x6'x1/8")+painted black. Don't know if they would use primer or not. Didn't think to ask. I wouldn't want paint on bare metal due to rust. It would probably last a year and then need repainted. I forgot to last night, Anyone measure the wall thickness of the HF tongue? Anyone know if the HF coupler will accept a 3" or not?
  8. I live in Noblesville Indiana. Closest biggest city is Indianapolis..
  9. I just did a google search. Honestly don't remember what key words I used but found a local place and called them. The smallest they have stock is 2" x 3" x 1/8" thick. For a 6' piece it will cost $20. They don't do powdercoat but for an additional $5-$10 they will paint it black for me. So this leads me to other questions. Not sure if the HF coupler will accept a 3" or not. Anyone know? Is 1/8" wall thickness, thick enough?
  10. How do you find a metals yard? I don't even know where to begin to be able to find something like this. I measured the tube at 2" 5/8 x 2". I would like to find a single 6' tube if I can. Thanks.
  11. good timing. I will be taking my trailer on a trip in a couple months. in this case though i will be staying at a campground. heck everyone has a hitch. Like midnight said. if they want it bad enough, they are gonna find a way to take it.
  12. Where do you buy materials to increase the tongue.
  13. Figured out why the marker lights aren't a constant on. On the bike I have a 5 pin flat plug. On the trailer, I have a 4 pin flat plug. Pulled out the tester light and sure enough the unused plug on the 5 pin plug is the constant light on. Unfortunately Hopkins p/n 47515 won't solve the issue as the 5 pin side needs to have 4 male plugs and 1 female plug and the 4 pin side needs to be 3 female plugs and 1 male plug in order to connect up to what I have. I should be able to connect the 2 marker light wires together to make it a single wire and on the end of the wire connect a male plug there.
  14. Still doesn't answer they question, why do the HF trailers seem to need the tongue extended while when travelling to M.B. and back all the manufactured trailers I saw on the road the tongue actually looked really short. By Brake Pad's illustration, I should be adding the center to center wheel measurement to the 1.5 (48+72) making it a 10' tongue if there isn't torsion setup. That's a pretty long tongue for such a small trailer. Could that be right?
  15. Took some measurements tonight. 48" approximately tire center to tire center. Really it was 47 and some change so I just rounded up. Tongue length from end of ball hitch to other end is 55" Taking into account minimum length you want it to be is 72" (1.5 times 48"). So I somehow need to come up with an additional 17". Cheapest way I can come up with is take the hole is it currently mounted to go up 17" and drill new holes. It will be pretty close to the bar that is already at the front of the trailer, but this way will still have 2 bars it will be mounted to. There are 2 holes already there that is closer to the front about 10-11" from the existing hole, but this will still leave me about 6" short of what is recommended. Other than that, not sure where to get materials to exend the tongue. I did measure the tongue dimensions and it was 2 5/8" W x 2" H.
  16. Did they mention anything about whether it has been plated for the past 10 yrs? Here in Indiana, if not, you will pay back taxes for the past 10 yrs if it was not plated the entire time. Crappy, but they do it.
  17. I know that many have recommended extending the tongue to 2x the axle length. I just got back from Myrtle Beach and every bike I saw on the way down and back using a trailer seemed to have very short trailer tongues. Any thoughts on why what I see is short, while we are recommending to extend it? Could it be that the HF trailers need extended while the ones that I saw were manufactured ones like Aluma?
  18. Squid, Yup that is what I am suggesting. Like I said just a thought, not that I am actually going to try. We put some HD parts on the bike, (although they are accessories). Just makes you wonder if there are any internal parts from other manufacturers that work too.
  19. Guess only way to do it is try. Not sure I would be willing to be a guinea pig though. Some Venture folks swap out Venture gears for VMAX gears. Some folks swap out VTX1300 gears for 1800. Wonder if it would work to swap out Venture gears for say 1800 gears.
  20. Plasti-Dip. hmmmm. Wonder how well that would work. I have some of that in my garage too. Mine are cracked as well. Been patiently waiting for a used set from a newer Venture to pop up for sale.
  21. Pinwall is also on e-bay.
  22. Can't use the apple ones, takes very little time until my ears start hurting. Thanks for the tip on the skull candy.
  23. My brother used to be on the Cincinnati (Ohio) PD. Couple years ago I got pulled over by a state trooper in Ohio about 10 minutes from his house. I was speeding and got a ticket, simple as that. Told my brother about it, he asked if it was a state trooper. I told him yes. He just said the ohio state troopers don't mess around. You get pulled over, you get a ticket, period. Attitude didn't matter to them.
  24. Not sure sure the brake lights are constant on too unless it is just hard to see. I will have to hook it back up to verify.
  25. Anyone know DOT regs for side marker lights on trailers? Do they have to be running lights? I was checking it out on my trailer this past weekend because they weren't lighting up and I thought they might be broken. Ends up they only light up when I hit the brake.
