  1. Have no idea if it is true but makes sense to me. A guy I know said Yamaha bought a ton of tape deck units from Clarion. I guess they are determined to use ever last one of them until the supply is used up. He said Toyota did the same thing in their cars but as soon as the tape deck era was over, they dumped their supply for cd players. There comes a time when you just need to cut your losses.
  2. This was starting to read just like a tv show I watched last night about parasites that get inside us. The symptons were starting to read the same. Long story short, teenage boy had a hemorrage in his eye ball. Ended up being a maggot using the inside of his eye for food. Praying for your health to improve and speedy recovery.
  3. Honestly wouldn't be suprised if the network is behind it just to see how far it will go. But they all would have signed an agreement just to make a show so...
  4. I will admit in the beginning, I liked it. Lost interest towards the end and stopped watching. That is probably when the most drama occurred. Granted not every parent/child relationship goes well, but just to see it on air, didn't appeal to me. They were not just getting along, they were starting to get nasty. Sr. lost his relationship with all 3 boys which just baffles me. I am more idealistic I guess. My take on it is Jr.'s well has about dried up with his company so he is going back to what he knows. I think he will have some success, but not nearly as much as OCC. I did like those coleman grills though.
  5. You think they finally went away....Senior vs. Junior http://tlc.discovery.com/tv/american-chopper/

  7. I also like the old 60's? Impala look they are doing to the tour pak's too. Lightbar
  8. Just got a small catalog in the mail and had H-D, metric and Goldwing in it. I know not for everyone but I kinda like it. Now if they could do the same thing for the Venture and also have them for the spot lights and turn signals.... Halo
  9. Speakers in a saddlebag. hmmmm. Now where have I seen that before? Ok...ok. Not in the lids at least. Post pics when you get it all done Kevin.
  10. Sounds about right from others I have spoke with that had it shipped round trip and including cost to have it done.
  11. Anyone who hasn't done this, I highly recommend it. I recently had it done and had the real test during STAR Days (going to it, during it and coming home). Overall guessing did 1500+ miles in a 5 day period. I had just a little tiny bit of that butt burn feeling but certainly not enough to make it uncomfortable in the least. Best $40 I have ever spent.
  12. A neighbor of mine does wholesale auto auctions and uses crankyape.
  13. I agree 100% lots of good info. here and I try to learn as much as I can before diving into something. I did read some of the threads about where to distribute weight, etc...I think I focused more on overall tongue weight vs 10%. I put my bag all the way in the back (which weighed about 25 lbs by itself). Only other thing I had in the trailer was a banner and 2 of those folding camping chairs. I also had a cooler w/ the equivalent of about a case of pop and depending on the gas station between 10-14 lbs of ice. After all completely loaded down I used a bathroom scale and put the tongue on it. It would weigh about 35 lbs. I seem to remember ideal tongue weight was like between 25-30 lbs but some towed w/out issues w/ 60 lbs of tongue weight. Also I did move the tongue up 10" from original mounting position to increase the tongue length. When I packed to head home, I packed it exactly the same way I did when I went to my destination. I had zero problems with swaying on the way down and once for a few minutes on the way home. I just attributed it to high winds because before and after that no problems.
  14. Hopefully not, they were brand new skf seals. I used a block of wood that covered the entire seal to make sure it would go in evenly. I was planning on buying a 2nd set anyway as backup as these things seem to be hard to find around here. I read a past post about the zerk fitting on these trailers don't distribute the grease all that evenly. Just my thought, something is better than nothing. All I can say it was on the bike already when I got it. Wasn't me that put it on, but shame on me for not double checking. I looked at just about everything else I could think of before I left on the trip. I will have to double check to see if there was a lock washer on there. If so, might not be a bad idea to replace it. Either way will need a wrench or socket to tighten it down properly. I don't have one that size. At least for now I got it tighten down as much as I could using the tools I do have. Not planning on towing it anytime soon anyway. Is there a particular spec it should be torqued to? Thanks
  15. I watched one of those DIY shows they were going over tools. They talked about some new table saw that stops on a dime if your hand, finger, whatever touches the blade. They demonstrated it by using a hot dog. It made a small nick on the hot dog, but it stopped immediately. I would take a small nick over that anyday. OUCH!!!!! Heal up quick so you can get back on the road.
  16. Can anyone chime in on this? Thanks
  17. Thought I would post a quick report and a question. I have read that the grease will turn to liquid. What happens to the liquid? Should it remain in the hub or should I see some of it on the rim? Pulled it total about 900 miles to STAR Days in Chattanooga TN and back. When I got to the camp site, I noticed grease on the backside of one of the rims. We took off the wheel and the seal was still flush w/ the hub so we didn't put too much grease in it and the seal did not get pushed out due to overfilling the hub. We did take the seal out and it looks like it was not round all the way around. One part on the inside diameter was pushed out a bit so this might have been the cause. I couldn't find a replacement while I was there so we just regreased the bearings and put everything back. It was funny as it seemed like that side was ok when I got home but noticed grease on the inside of the other wheel (not much and not nearly as much as the 1st wheel). So it basically flipped situations on me. As we stopped I did touch the hubs and on they way down one side was hotter than the other (don't remember which side at this point). On the way back home both sides seemed to stay cool to the touch. Someone must have been looking out for me too as when I got home I was taking the trailer off the bike and the ball hitch nut was close to having come off all the way. Even though I crossed the chains, I am sure that had the nut come off and the trailer come off the bike, it would have headed straight for my rear tire. Overall the trailer pulled pretty well. There was only once on the way home where it started to sway, but we were in some heavy winds too. I got a tramp stamp for the bike (should show in my sig pic). The guy who did it was telling me a story about a friend of his that made a redneck sway bar. He took 4 rubber straps. Attach 2 to each side where the chains are attached to the bike. On the trailer side attach the rubber straps to the outer most holes (2 to each side) using those C hooks where one part shows threads and the other side shows a nut. This way when you turn, on one side the rubber straps will create slack. The hooks will prevent the rubber straps from coming undone from the trailer.
  18. I put everything in the trailer that I am going to take. Put it on top of the scales and rounding up I got 34 lbs. That's with luggage, foldable chair, and a banner all the way in the back of the cabin. In the cooler, 7 bottles of water and a 12 pack of coke. I used 2 dumbells weighing 6.6 lbs each to take into account the weight of ice. If I use less than 13 lbs of ice, then the tongue weight will be even less.
  19. No charging issues. This is just my example to you guys. His example of seeing resevoir empty w/ a 50% brake padding, I was calling him out on it. Like you said and I felt, Pure Bovine Scat. I have seen things too just like he has seen things. Just because we have seen things (like pygmies ), doesn't mean it is normal or right.
  20. I saw those bags on e-bay looked pretty banged up. Looks like it was from a bike being layed down. I went back today cuz I think they messed up the rear and I think they should (hopefully) fix it. I asked them to put new fluids in front and rear, check, double and triple check all the fittings, bolts, nuts, etc... I took off the black cover from the rear resevoir. I think it is just for looks anyway but at least I can keep an eye on it now. I told the manager they said the front was full yesterday, I double checked and it was full so I understood charging for the front service. I did say however I have an issue with the rear. They were the last to touch it, they should fix it for free. He didn't charge me for any of it. When I was talking to them about it he started to say that he has seen no fluid in the resevoir w/ brake pads at 50% (which is were mine are at. I checked and they confirmed it w/out me telling them I checked it 1st). I can understand pistons have to travel further which will use more fluid which in turn reduces how much will show in the resevoir. My issue is once you let go of the brake lever shouldn't the fluid travel back to the resevoir? Just as guess, but I am gonna say yes. The issue is after letting it sit level for 6 hrs, still no fluid in the resevoir. I said not to believe that you haven't seen it, but I have a hard time buying into that reasoning. I can tell you as a matter of fact on a charged battery, a 1970 chevelle can run for 1 hr 45 minutes w/out the alternator hooked up (again as a result of a mechanic that failed to hook it back up). I have seen it, but doesn't mean it's right. Next we talked about the bag issue and possible brake fluid hitting the bottom of the bag, causing the paint to bubble as well as the plastic to soften and crack. His reasoning was pretty much the same as what I posted earlier. I really didn't think about how the brake oil line is mounted to the caliper. If you look the line is connected at the top and towards the front of the caliper. About 1/2 of the bag covers the caliper. IF it leaked at the point where the line meets the caliper, that means the side of the bag closest to the caliper should be caked w/ brake oil too and paint destroyed, which it isn't. My question is can you think of any other place where fluid can come out of the caliper to be able to travel to the far side of the bag? I don't think it can be proven one way or another about how the bag got broke.
  21. I just did this using a bathroom scale and as really close to the Diamond R hitch height. I got 20 lbs. This from the small H.F. trailer w/ a cooler rack both of which are empty. Ice, food/drinks, clothes and anything else in the trailer could push it to the 40 lb mark I would imagine.
  22. They swapped out the entire caliper. During lunch it was on the kickstand w/ handlebars turn to the left. At home it was on the centerstand, handlebars center. I did notice even with handlebars center the fluid was not level as it was lower on one side and higher on the other. You mentioned the bars have to be turned to the right so I will try that and check the front resevoir again. Do you mean brake lines replaced as well as front and rear calipers rebuilt? Thanks.
  23. Holy Crap!!!! When it rains it pours. Ok switching gears a bit. So took the bike to work. Went out during lunch to look at something on the bike and to me the front brake resevoir window was about 1/4 full. So I took it to the dealer after work (I am gonna start calling them stealers now). They said something about looks like someone topped the fluid off w/ a different color than what was originally used so you have an illusion (my word) that it is not full but what you are seeing is a line created by the 2 different colors not mixing together (kinda like what you would see with oil & water trying to me-again my analogy). They did also mention that when brake pads get worn, the pistons push in further so some of the fluid will go down in the resevoir. I asked them if there was any type of compression test that can be done to make sure the fluid is holding and no leaks. They said no. Is this true? Was getting ready to leave and asked them if they did check the rear resevoir. They didn't so he just wiggled it a bit and says he can see the fluid moving and all looks good. So get home tonight, put her on the center stand and it has sat for 6 hrs now. I wanted to check it out for myself. I took off the front resevoir cap off 1st and it's full. I next pulled that black cover off the rear resevoir and unscrewed the cap. Either I am completely missing something or I have another issue on hand. The rear resevoir was completely empty, I mean not a drop. I am pretty sure this is not normal, correct? Is it supposed to be empty (I really don't believe that but gotta ask) and maybe as the bike warms up you should see fluid in the resevoir. I think some cars work that way with radiators and reserve bottles??? As far as braking goes, I haven't noticed anything, seems to be functioning normally but certainly am not going to take my chances. So could be something to brake fluid getting on that saddlebag, but crap you really can't trust anyone. Really need someone here in Indy to show me how to do my own maintenance like own brake fluid changes. Certain things I can do myself like oil changes and have read how to do things like brake fluid changes, but honestly would rather someone that is knowledgable watch me do it to make sure I do things correctly.
  24. Well rear brake was recently swapped out by the dealer. Maybe he mech didn't wipe of his hands and might have had some on his hands when he put the bag back on? Will check the rear brake resevoir to see if it is down as I don't see any fluids on any other part of the bike around the rear brake. Have to check that stuff anyway for the upcoming trip. Also not sure if that would explain the crack/peeling paint on the opposite side of the brake (side facing out). I would expect that to be on the side closest to the brake. I also don't think it would explain the crack in the rear of the saddlebag or all the other spider cracks along the bottom edges towards the outside. Sometimes you just never know though. Seems like once it got started, the whole bag wanted to fall apart. I did ask the dealer if they used locktite on those bolts. They said no, they take the bolts out of our scoots too often to do that.
  25. I haven't used locktite on those bolts, but are you saying locktite could have caused the paint peeling and/or the cracks? I finished last night. Removed the bag from the bike. Took everything off the bag, like the lid, hinges, that L shaped metal bracket. Found out one of the tabs that holds the metal bracket broke too. I decided to go ahead and put pipe cement on the inside where those spider cracks are. Not sure if it will help, but certainly can't hurt either. Also got all the excess scraped off from the outside crack. Did end up scratching a couple spots, but I believe it can buff out. You can definetly tell there is a crack there. I am sure I will get alot of comments like hey did you know your saddlebag is cracked.....The day I bought my VTX (just like the Venture) it has a hose sticking out from the bottom. Lady pulled up and told me about it. That having been my very 1st bike, I turned around and asked the dealer about it. Yup supposed to be there. :-) At least people look out for you like that. I am sure it will hold up. I will keep an eye on it. Maybe for winter, I can get it repainted.
