Never did. I found one other post a while back where someone took off all the sheating off the wiring and found a broken wire. There is one part to the tach I can't undo to get to all of the wiring so I can't really confirm if there is a broken wire or not.

I have a Streetpilot 2730 w/ the car adapter w/ one of those round speakers in the cable. I think one of my sons got ahold of it one day and hasn't worked right since. I would keep losing power. Well I took apart the speaker housing and there are 6 wires total. 2 to the speaker (I never cared for using the speaker), 2 to that outlet that is on the side of the speaker housing (have no idea what it is so I know I won't miss it) and the power and ground wires. I completly cutoff the 1st 4 mentioned wires so you can barely see them. This just left the power and ground wires exposed. I hardwired them into the bike and now the gps works great. There was plenty of length of wire from the Garmin harness so I was able to run it down by the fork, under the tank and next to the battery where I already had a fuse box I installed a couple years ago and pick your own spot for ground. All in all it was free and I didn't have to spend $30+ for the motorcycle wire kit.

Try Streetpilot 2820. Auction is getting ready to end on e-bay for $218

Only problem is unless they changed the rules in the past couple days there are only 2 ways to enter. Push the blue button or hand-print your complete name, address, city, state, zip/postal code, email address, date of birth and phone number on a 3"x5" piece of paper and mail your entry via first-class mail in a No. 10 business-size envelope with sufficient postage... I don't know about you put putting that info. on a card and mailing it in screams identity theft all over it. Too easy to do by sending it in that way IMO. I agree they should have more ways to enter like phone # (I have a corded phone) and/or web-site. Really what is the difference between pushing the button to talk to a rep vs. making a phone call and talking to a rep?

I guess this can really go for any 3" tach. Can you post pictures of how you have it mounted to your scoots? Anybody have a Baron's mini-tach for sale?

Thanks for the tip on the Nuvi's. I will check those out too. I was w/ some buddies today and 1 person pointed out that the 550 has the navigation buttons while the 660 series is touchscreen only. He pointed out (no pun intended) that touchscreen only can be a pain w/ gloves while you can still navigate the buttons w/ gloves. Thoughts?

Yes that is the contest that I am referring to. In order to push the blue button you have to have a digital signal and due to the age of my vehicle I have analog. I don't think it is a dealer only upgrade like what Onstar is trying to say it is. I am asking if there are any GM mechanics w/ experience of doing the digital upgrade.
-
Anyone have one? What do you like about it? What don't you like? Issues? Did you switch from a 550 to 665? If so do you like the 550 or 665 better and why? Is the only difference between 660 and 665 is XM?

I just got my seats back. Tell me what you think.

Really makes it stand out. I really like it. -
I have an '03 Olds Silhouette and tried to sign up for the contest. Well I learned that I have an analog signal and you need a digital signal to sign up. I have done some research and onstar says it can't be done DIY. From some other research this is basically b.s. There are some DIYers that have done the upgrade themselves. It seems the only reason why they are saying this is so they can get some big $$$ for it. When this whole thing started Onstar wanted 3 yrs of service. Now they want just one, but the problem is total cost is $315 to have the upgrade done. That doesn't include what I am sure dealer would charge for labor and taxes. I am not going to spend that kinda dough for this. I should be able to do this upgrade w/out having to sign up for anything w/ Onstar. I should be able to have the option to be able to sign up in the future if I want to w/out having to sign up right now just to do this upgrade. Besides the contest if anything else say me or my wife are in an accident, I can't push the emergency button to get help. They way it is now, Onstar is taking that option out unless you want to drop some major $$$ My question is any GM mechanics know how to do the upgrade? Anyone else done it themselves? How hard is it? Instructions? How to get the parts (I think it just involves a module and antenna)? Anything I am missing?

How has it been? Is everyone ok?. I heard about the flooding there. They compare it to Noah's flood.

LOL. How true Bob. We just let our AAA membership expire. We had it for alot of years but never used it. Well I actually bought a non-bike related item. Well I guess it could be bike related if I use it to put air in the tires if I need to. I bought a Porter Cable 6 gal. air compressor and frame nailer from Home Depot. They had it on sale since the combo was being discontinued. I don't have the box anymore so I don't have the combo part #. I might still have the note with the SKU #. It was something like 785758 or 758785 if I remember right. One store couldn't find anything about it and another found it and told me other stores that had it since they were out of it. I should still have the receipt and at the very least can pull the p/n's from the parts themselves. I can't find any web-sites with pics of the combo either, not even on the porter cable sight. Porter Cable still shows the Nailer (I think it is the same one) but don't see the compressor. So best I can come up with are the 2 items listed in other combos. I am pretty sure these are it Compressor Nail Gun Also bought this yesterday. Not really an r/c guy or nascar but Menards was selling them cheap enough for me and there are 2 rebates they have right now. This week take an additional 11% off any purchase and the car has a $35 rebate so once those come back to me makes it worth it. Family will have lots of fun with this. Car Even the price they have on the link I still paid alot less than this in the store even before the rebates.

A guy in our group rides a BMW. All I can say from his experience twice, is some parts you are only going to get by importing from Germany and that is major $$$. One was right cylinder coil and the other was final drive unit. Not sure why the coil had to be imported as I found one on e-bay for him, but I guess a new one had to be imported. His is a 2004 R1200CLC.

Bob, what safety chrome did you buy? PB&J, I have thought about a kevlar jacket straycat, like progressive fork springs? Brake Pad, I have the cd changer. I took it out after about a month. I got tired of all the skipping. Someone said you can adjust the buffer but I couldn`t figure it out so I gave up. Do you know if it can be adjusted?
-
Well most of what was mentioned I have already. I can say when I bought it, it was already nicely dressed. Brake Pad, sumthin' just ain't right about that statement. LOL Utopia Backrest - Got a backrest although not sure if it is Utopia. Does have an option for a pocket in the back? Clearview windshield with a vent - check Kury highway pegs - got grips, not pegs. If I remember right Kury just has the shift pegs. I am waiting for them to also have the matching brake pad. heated gloves or a jacket - There's an idea too. Stebel air horns - check-although needs replaced. Been thinking about doing Fiam horns in the fairing. Voice activated horn button - hmmmm. :-) ice cream - Bingo!!! (harbor freight) trailer - check My Baron's tach went out this year, thought about replacing it and then doing Ponch's gauge set. Been thinking about front/back LED turn signals from custom dynamics but hoping at some point they will do a free shipping promo. Got a card from STAR about order $350 in accessories or apparrel (doesn't apply to parts) and get $100 off. I could dish out the extra $50 but I looked at the catalog and nothing really jumps out at me that I would want. Too bad they don't make those air cleaner covers anymore. I probably would have gone for those. How much does it cost for one of those VMAX baskets?

$200 to spend on bike goodies, what would you spend it on?

So Swifty, they found the engine you purchased?

From the responses it seems funny how someone comes up w/ something that you think it is a new idea or product and apparently has been around for years. Sounds like all they did was come up w/ a couple different colors for an old product. Heck who knows maybe Anthony (the pitchman) doesn't know this is something old either. I guess manufacturers do this all the time. I know Sears takes other manufacturers products, change this and that and put a craftsman label on it. At least that is what a Sears Hardware worker told me. A few years back I was given a Ryobi table saw as a gift and shortly afterwards I did see an almost identical table saw in Sears so I do believe what the Sears guy told me. Massey130 - $10 for 3 rolls + $6 packaging and handling (guess they don't call it shipping and handling anymore). It says just pay seperate packaging and handling fee for the 2nd set so you get 3 more rolls for $6. But I did think $22 for 6 rolls is a bit expensive.

Just saw this commercial. 6 rolls $22 (included packaging and handling for 2 sets of 3 rolls). What do you think? https://www.mightyfixit.com/flare/next

I am not so concerned w/ sound. Sounds like I will have to cut the cable, probably just before the is and check which wire registers 12v (hopefully only 1). Then I could run a wire from there to the bike. Only problem is I don't know which end of the cable is not working. It could the end that connects to the GPS. I guess no harm, no foul since it isn't working anyway. Can't make it any worse. My options would be to try it and if it works then cheap fix. If it doesn't then I would be forking out some $$$ for new cable unless someone has a spare one I could have.

I have always heard good things about Pinwall. I am sure besides $25 they will be able to make it right. Also from what I remember on an older posting (going off memory) they do have on their e-bay posting don't bother calling or was it e-mailing. I will look at one of their e-bay auctions. Update: Did they pull their e-bay auctions? I checked my zip code w/in 150 miles and all I am getting is Cincinnati. I believe their city is Navarrone Ok found them. It was 300+ miles. Lot farther than what I thought. Anyway I couldn't find any statements about not calling. They did mention e-mailing them a couple times.

Anyone have a spare cable like this they aren't using? I don't care to pay $35 for a cable on a unit that is as old as this model. Kids got ahold of the cable one day and can't get the unit to power on anymore. :-( Or tell me how I can hardwire it to the bike. Thanks

Should add that the Donato's pizza that was next to it also went up to flames. That's like a double whammy isn't it?
