  1. Heck. Never know. Maybe some of the modifications he has done to the bike weren't right causing the issue. I could be wrong but isn't he very carefull when he rides and what not. In other words treating it with kids gloves. Maybe if he rode it like he stole it...
  2. ok. Annie and Al. Where is the pics from maintenance day showing the both of you?
  3. Bob, Did he have a 1 yr warranty? That bike never moves so how did the tranny go sour?
  4. When I bought my Venture in '08 I bought their Pit Pass. Ended still being a savings but not nearly as big as what they were saying. It runs out at the end of this month. It is really inconvenient for me to go do Washington street when I live in Noblesville and I ride right pass Westfield Yamaha and Westfield is also our chapter dealer sponsor. But I already paid for the service. All I can say is if you go to Dreyer make sure you check the bike over before you leave the parking lot. I have had more than 1 issue in them not hooking the horn back up. Also 1 time I lost my seat nuts. They didn't put the seat on right. I didn't think it was a big deal, I figured I will just fix it when I got home. Well when I got home, my nuts were gone. Most people don't think it is such a big deal to lose your nuts, but I like having my nuts so I had to get new ones. Oh and one time they recommended that I have my carbs removed and completely cleaned since it was running rough. I asked how much and the service manager, literally said for both of them $xxx (way too expensive and also I had ran Seafoam in the tank not long before that service so I knew there wasn't anything wrong w/ the carbs before I brought the bike in). For both carbs? And you are the service manager in a Yamaha shop and we are talking about the flag ship bike? The service they just did included syncing the carbs. I think it was the next weekend and took it to a buddies house who synced the carbs for me. Ends up they were off just a tad. Doesn't take much if you don't tune them properly. Needless to say I didn't have them clean the carbs. They set the idle way too high one time. Not a biggie, easy fix. Overall when things weren't right I took it to Westfield Yamaha (sometimes on the way home from Dreyer) to fix the issues. Chuck and the rest of the crew have always taken care of me from Westfield Yamaha. Now this isn't to say I haven't had issues with them either but they always made it right after I brought it to their attention. Hit up Bummer on the site. He might be able to help w/ the valves. Dano might be able to help too? Overall there are lots of people that do their own wrenching on this site so if you can't get locals to help then I am sure any number of people would be glad to walk you through it over the phone. Just tell them you will buy them ice cream and they will come from all other the country. LOL.

  6. anyone have info. on the trail comment?
  7. I have the pigtail wiring for my battery tender. I bought another pigtail wiring from a store. Cut it in half, added/soldered wiring to make it longer. Ran it through the trunk and bought one of those cell phone charger adapters that also uses pig tails. Works great. I figured I obviously am not using the battery tender while riding so might as well use the wiring for something. Cell phone can be charged in the trunk and no one knows. Just like this but instead of the coiled wire, it just has a pigtail at the end. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31Y5BCJ%2B3dL._SS500_.jpg
  8. Kinda suprising they said they won't support the 2720 anylonger. At least last year they would have let me send in my 2730 for repair. Apparently the threat of being shipped off was enough for the 2730 to work and has worked ever since. Only time it gives me issues is sometimes it wants me to calibrate the screen. All I have to do is hit the map button and all is good again. I actually can't calibrate it. I touch all the spots but then tells me calibration was not successful. Oh well it works fine. The only other issue is when you are in map mode, sometimes it will jump to the screen as if you touched the screen so you can move around in the map. I have noticed it only seems to do this when the cursor is at the same spot as the arrow showing your location. My only complaint is it doesn't work worth a crud in the car. It will easily lose the sat. signal. Even if I push the gps all the way towards the front of the windshield and on a perfectly clear day. It doesn't lose a signal on the bike so not sure why it does in the car. Also have noticed that if it starts to heat up that is typically when it acts up. When it stays cool, it works fine. I now have a 2820 that I recently bought from e-bay. It works flawlessly and don't have any of the issues like I do on the 2730.
  9. you can see my previous post providing the link to the flag pole in the star mall. BTW it the bottom is stamped M&J Enterprises I too attempted to make my own mount. I bought a couple old antenna mounts for goldwings and mounted them under the trunk by removing the rubber covers. For the pole I bought what is called a stair rod (just like a curtain rod but smaller). It had a ferrel on each side so all I had to do was cut it in half and walla you have 2 flag poles. The pole diameter is just a hair smaller than the hole for the goldwing antenna mounts so I had to cut a thread on the bottom of the rod. Thread 1 nut, insert pole through hole and thread another nut for the bottom to hold it all in place. It all worked well except when riding around town. No matter what I tried I couldn't get the pole from swaying in the wind. A little I don't mind but it had a lot. Really couldn't get the issue fixed so I took it off and bought the ones from the STAR Mall. Mounting under the trunk wasn't my 1st choice but couldn't figure out how to mount them to the trunk rack.
  10. Just saw this link. Am I reading this ride, a kit to make the trail shorter? Wouldn't this bring the forks in? I really don't know anything about the topic, but I thought you wanted to extend the trail for ease of steering. http://www.ridermagazine.com/output.cfm?id=2733373
  11. http://www.startouring.org/store/product_view.asp?product_id=139 I will have to check but I believe the bottom is stamped MC Enterprises. Maybe someone w/ more immediate access to view the bottom can take a look.
  12. I can relate too. I put our Shepherd do a couple years ago. Saddest day of my life. 1st dog I ever owned. Our 2nd dog is a purebred Bischon as a present to the kids from the grandparents. She has a heart issue that the vets rate 4/5. She can be a PITA at times, but also a very lovable dog. I don't know if she will ever get to live a full life and I know I will have to face putting her down again. It will not be a good day in our household when that day comes.
  13. used golf tape too. I don't mind the glue but it didn't seem to take on one side. Golf tape took care of it.
  14. Wasn't there a thread recently about people switching their headlights to LED. At first it all seemed good, but then their lights starting going out or something like that.
  15. LOL. Unless you have that new Yamaha umbrella farkle, very, very few have been riding lately. Yes you just push them in, but from learning the expensive way, make sure you clean those caliper pistons really well before you push them in. If dirt gets behind those seals, you will either be replacing or rebuilding those calipers.
  16. Decided to give a shot and mounted it right on top of the cassette box. Used double sided tape. The inside of the fairing seems to be right on top of the puck so surprised it would move w/out it. Now the only thing is the plastic chrome piece hiding the windshield screws is not flush against the windshield. Not sure if the 2 are related. I wouldn't think so.
  17. It's a 6mm on the 2nd gen. Just split the fairing last night to install my Buddy Rich Cable. Haven't heard about the breaking problem but consensus has been just doesn't look right with it spaced out and like others said, it isn't that hard to do as is. I also use a blanket to cover the fender.
  18. Buddy, The streetpilot works the same in giving a pop up and you have to touch the answer button. I did put in an audio splitter. I will have to look but I think I have a 3 way splitter in there. I think what I did if I remember right is use 2-2 way splitters cuz I couldn't find an actual 3 way splitter. What is the purpose of using the audio out in this case? So I can talk to whomever is calling?
  19. yes a streetpilot 2820
  20. I really don't see myself dialing calls while riding. Just not a smart thing to do IMO. I guess I am more worried about answering calls while listening to the radio. I didn't want to be stuck on AUX all the time and listening to MP3. Nothing wrong with that, but sometimes I like to hear people talk (besides the voices in my head) LOL.
  21. Question. I got the cable and getting ready to install. Is the only way you can use bluetooth is by using the AUX setting on the handlebar control or can you listen to the radio and be able to call out and/or receive calls? Also do you just talk like normal if using a cell phone or do you have to use the transmit button like when you use the cb?
  22. Hey Boomer and Ragtop, Does the magnet hold it in place or did you have to screw it into something? Thanks
  23. I think I see a dark puddle underneath that desk. LOL
