  1. When I lived in Idaho many, many years ago - you could not register your vehicle (or renew registration) w/o proof of insurance. Since it's really the vehicle that's insured, not the driver - that seemed like a good idea to me. (although I have no doubt someone here will disagree:Avatars_Gee_George: ) No insurance, no plates. I don't recall what the penalty was if you cancelled coverage and got caught driving the car w/o insurance - it would have to be substantial. And I don't know if the ins. co had to notify if the insance was cancelled - that would seem likely. But I do recall that when you got pulled over it was - "License, registration and prooof of insurance, please." There will always be some people that drive w/o insurance, no matter what laws are passed.
  2. Somehow, tenting it at "Poopy's" - not sounding very pleasant to me. Not sure how someone gets that name.........and I don't want to know. And getting my wife to "tent it" in Oct. ............- the likelihood of that falls between hell freezing over and the Pope converting to Islam. Ain't gonna happen, amigo. I don't know Bellevue, IA - but if they have a cool little cheap motel there, I'm OK with that. I know the L&M Motel is very biker friendly - one of those really unique little mom & pop operations leftover from the 50's. But let's continue this at the other thread, eh? Before the Topic Police get me............
  3. I was talking to some of the folks there about doing a fall ride thru the Kettle Moraine - it's beautiful that time of year. But since Jeff can't play host again this year, I had another thought. Here it is - Oct. 2, 3 & 4 - meet in Savanna, IL and ride thru SW WI for the weekend. Details - [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=38766]WI, IL, IA & MN - M & R weekend fall color ride - VentureRider.Org[/ame] Savanna is about 3 - 4 hours max from anybody who was at the Maint. Day at RedRider's. Hope to see you all there.
  4. Excellent, amigo! Long haul or local? So does that mean I'll have some company on my little fall colors ride?
  5. :rotf: Harsh, Dan, harsh. Now, nobody tell him that I sold him out or he may not ride with me again.Jerry Don't worry, Jerry - it's just between you me and the other 5000 people on the site.
  6. 10-4 - I wasn't sure. Glad to hear the plant is living it up. I/we are goin' to try and be at the SIP. (Spam in the Pines due to the economic slowdown)
  7. Steve, I have the stock one from my Venture - is it the same shield? If you can use it, let me know Red
  8. Have you considered bathing BEFORE the event this year?
  9. I seem to recall that as well................ Now who was that and why did he owe $5????
  10. What he said. I was also going to comment on RedRider's ride - I think he hit 90% of the best roads in & around the Kettle. Personally - I thought the temp was perfect & may have contributed to the severe lack of traffic in this often congested state forest. Hopefully we can cajole him into doing this again....late Sept or early Oct........... maybe......when the leaves are all purty? Whaddya say, Jeff? Thanks again, Jeff - for hosting everyone at your beautiful place - very generous of you. And it was nice meeting everyone there and having a few laughs. Nice folks, those Venture Riders.
  11. Yeah, I have that beer allergy, too. When I drink too much of it, I get dizzy, then my togue swells up & I start to mumble incoherent things and eventually I fall over and barf. I must also have a whiskey allergy and wine allergy - 'cuz the same thing happens when I drink them.
  12. Some years ago I picked up a pair of air horn from Harbor Frieght and still have not installed them. I may bring them along and see if I can get some insights on where & how to put them on the bike. My bride wanted to go for a ride this weekend anyway - this summer is getting away from us way too fast. We'll try to be there mid-morning on Sat.
  13. First - it's mighty nice of you to host this and put something together. Unless something mandatory comes up - I'll be there. Wherever "there" is. I have a Carbtune I can bring if needed. Let me know if there's anything else I could help with.
  14. I also put in the Goldwing vent. Works great - no water leakage in the rain - as long as you close it. Had a few bugs make it thru unscathed tho. Be sure to mark the location with the windshield on the bike and allow for the up slope on the top of the dash. I taped the bottom of the windshield w/ masking tape, marked the vent with a felt tip pen, drilled 4 small holes in the corners. If you cut it out with a sabre saw - have some one mist the blade w/ water as you cut - you get a cleaner cut that way.
  15. Rosebud, Thanks for bringing this to our attention. My daughter just returned from 9 months in Afghanistan. She told me that once they got Pizza Hut pizzas.........for the prisoners. The troops got burned Chicken McNuggets. Nice, huh? Even tho she's no longer there, I plan to continue to help support those that still are and let them know we appreciate thier efforts and sacrifice. Let's hope these pizzas get to the actual troops. Can we make sure they put PORK sausage on them?
  16. Ditto - Pick a when and where and I'll see if I can make it.
  17. It's the Clearview shield - about 3" shorter and a few inches wider, I think. I'm 5'8" and I still have to sit up REAL straight in order to see over the top of it in a downpour. The shorter shield with a taller person might no be such a good idea - all the rain will roll off the top right into your face.
  18. Ditto on the rain gear, especially if your gonna be a distance from home and dry clothes. I treat my leather jacket every spring and that keeps me dry execpt during a real drencher. And I've discovered that I do not melt in the rain - although it has caused my hair to rust. The lowers keep most of the rain off your legs and feet (unless you have some big 'ole flippers.) No matter what you put on the windscreen - Pledge, Rain-X, Plexus - after an hour in a good rain you won't be able to see thru it. I installed the lower windshield so I could look over the top when needed. And there have been times when it was needed. And if you ride 2-up - a GOOD rain suit and goggles for the passenger (those rain drops HURT at 60 mph w/o the screen - she will get smacked in the face something awful) will reduce complaints from the rear seat. Here in WI - a pair of waterproof gloves is also a good idea - they give you better grip on wet handlebars and keep your hands from getting too cold. I also picked up some anti-fog goggles that I put on when it looks like an all-day rain.
  19. Ba Da BING! That did it - clutch out, side stand down - Vroooommmm! Thank you kindly, Goose.
  20. Better late than never, eh? Lord knows so many threads are added every day - I don't think anyone can keep up. I got the part from BikeBandit and #41 is the SCCR - for future reference for anyone who has a similiar moto-disability. It arrived in just 3 days, I haven't had time to install it yet, but has the 12 pin plug just like the old one. So (fingers crossed) it should do the job.
  21. Hey guys, Sorry for your losses, but good to hear from you again. Enjoy that new bike and you and Al go make some memories! Life is short - enjoy the ride. Hope to see you both this summer,
  22. Hey Boo, Ordinarily I don't like swaping parts out either - mostly because I'm cheap & I don't have a lot of free time - but tracking down an electrical problem is not my strong suit. I'm much more of a wrench guy than a soldering iron guy. I couldn't seem to get any help locally that was any smarter than I was. (How sad is that!) Had I brought this problem to the group sooner, I likely could have saved myself $100. But I have gained at least $100 worth of knowledge on the Starter Circuit Cutoff system! Hope to see ya 'round again, tell Jane we said HI!
  23. From your description - I did the test right and on the right relay. So, I'm likely to go for the obvious and most expensive solution - my time is more valuable to me than the money and I'd rather just take it apart 1 more time and swap out the relay. I'm pretty sure it's part #41 as well - I just don't understand why it wasn't named correctly. #37 is the Starter Relay (not the Starter Circuit Cutoff Relay) which looks nothing like the Starter Cutoff Relay and is located behind the passengers L footrest. There's a removal and testing procedure for that one in the Clymer manual as well. But what is #42 - described only as "relay Assy" - no mention of it's purpose at all. It looks a lot like #41 - which doesn't help in the confusion dept. Thanks, Goose for your help. I would not have even known there was a Starter Cutoff Relay where the whole mess came together if you hadn't said something. I'll get the relay and see if that solves the problem. What's another $70+, eh?
  24. no - Perhaps I was not clear. Not repeating a $70 mistake was a reference to having already purchased and replaced the side stand switch. I am looking to purchase the part (starter circuit cutoff relay) on-line from BikeBandit and the diagram (the above link) was unclear about identifying the part as the Starter Circuit Cutoff Relay. It only refered to it as "RELAY ASSY, FOR SIDE STAND" along with a diagram and sketch. And since there is no other description of the part (i.e.- 12 pin plug, dimensions, etc.) or it's function or a PICTURE of it - I was not sure if that was the correct part. The numbers on the relay are OEM numbers and are not replacement part stock numbers. In order to compare it with my old one - I'd have to shell out $70 + shipping and I want to be sure it's the correct part before I do that - electrical parts are generally non-returnable.
  25. This is the link to the on-line micro-fische for the electrical system at BikeBandit. The diagram was the same at Cycle Parts. http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/yamaha-motorcycle-royal-star-venture-xvz13tfm-2000-electrical-1/o/m7566sch121444 Check out part #41. I removed the relay according to the Clymer manual - the SCCR was under the seat, behind the inner cover, next to the coolant tank and it looked just like part #41 on the diagram. But part #41 is listed as "RELAY ASSY, FOR SIDE STAND". There is no Starter Circuit Cutoff Relay listed and there is no description of the relay or it's function other than "for side stand". Based on the appearance & location on the diagram, #41 would seem to the correct part. But I'd rather not make a $70 mistake...........again. (the starter relay was $47) Thanks for your input
