  1. My '07 oem was too tall. I decided to tried to cut it myself. What did I have to lose? I was going to buy another one anyhow. It was amazingly easy. I covered the front with gift wrapping paper and taped the edges. Mark the height you want. Use a string and pencil to draw desired radius. Set a jigsaw on medium speed and fine tooth blade. It cut like butter... cut slowly to stay online then use a fine sanding block to even the edge and tada! It looks like it was manufactured. Plus it is the exact height I wanted. Good luck for anyone who wants to try... remember if you are going to buy one anyhow... nothing to lose.
  2. I have an '07 and learned that in the rain and fog you need/must to see over the windshield. I almost learned the hard way. I cut mine down by 4 inches and can't tell the difference in wind buffetting. The cut down was very easy. A variable jig saw and sand paper that all it took.
  3. I recently cut my windshield down about 4 inches. It turned out great. It was very easy. I used gift wrapping paper to cover the entire windshield, taped the edges lightly. Used a string and pen to draw my desired radius. I used a varible jig saw as about 30 -40% speed. It cut like butter. Fine sand paper with block to smooth edges.... careful not to let fingers glide on surface or it will scratch. Looks like professionally done... Now it is just right. I will post pics later.
  4. I ride an 07 RSTD with about 15K on it. Everything stock except K&N filters. I get about 41 city one up. I have gotten up to 53 mpg on the flat roads of Florida driving about 58 steady on back roads. On the interstate driving around 78 mph I get around 38 mpg. I recently cut down my windshield due to visibility. I want to see if it helps with my MPG highway also.
  5. I really can't tell a difference in 87 or 93 octane. I usually use 89. I find some stations seem to have better gas than others and not sure why. I have heard timing could be an issue.. Right after the stations get a fillup it could stur up sediments that could cause poor performance. On Ethanol issue, I have heard that it is an alcohol so it has a tendancy to dry the rubber lines and gaskets over time. Is this true? It seems most stations are going to the 10% blend. Does this mean shorter engine life?
  6. Just FYI.... I read a report out of California by a group of physics professors that did a study between standard oil and synthetic oil. The oil manufacturers names were mentioned but the only one I can remember is the synthetic, "Mobile One". The report showed about 80% breakdown in the viscosity at only 800 miles. The synthetic showed only about 40% breakdown at 800 miles. Both reports are a shocker to me. So with that information I use synthetic 10w40 and change between 4000 and 6000 miles. Hard riding like mountains in the summer... I think should be sooner. 2 cents worth.. use at will..
  7. I've been experimenting with the mileage on my '07 Royal Star. I use 93 octane, synthetic oil, and I have K&N air filters. I get 38 - 42 mpg at 65 - 70 mph. If I slow down and really take my time on the flat roads of Florida not exceeding 55mph. I get 52-53 mpg. I can not believe the difference. However it is difficult fighting the urge to roll on the throttle. That is half the fun. But if you are not in a hurry and want to enjoy the ride..... slow down and see for yourself.
