  1. From other post's that I have seen, the RSTD seating is an inch or so lower than the Venture. I think.
  2. I have about 500 miles on mine now and I can't tell any difference in the ride or handling. Lovin' it!
  3. That's probably what they call 'Chrome paint'. You can get it in Chrome, Polished Brass and some colors too.
  4. OCT 10-12 Here's the link... www.chautauquabikerally.com I just ran across it while searching for places to ride on weekends I'm off work... but I work this weekend. May ride down and catch the last of it.
  5. The wife and I jumped on the Venture after church this morning and left Brandon (MS) and headed up Hwy 25 to Carthage. We stopped for lunch at Wendy's and as we were leaving a fellow pulled up next to me on the twin to my bike, an '07, just to say hi. He was meeting a buddy who was riding an H-D. We left Carthage and headed over to the Natchez Trace and then south toward home. Lot of bikes on the Trace today. Nice, relaxing ride of just over 100 miles. Guess we'll have to do it again next weekend too. May have to check out the Chatauqua Bike Rally in Crystal Springs on Saturday.
  6. The reason that I asked is that the previous owner gave me a new ME880 for the front which I had put on just after I got the bike 3 months ago. That's before all I heard about the Metzlers. Although I would rather not have it, I think I'll keep it on and watch the pressure. I just replaced a cupped ME880 that was on the rear with a CT so I'm good on the rear.
  7. I keep hearing the stories of the ME880's coming apart but I'm just got to thinking... Is it the front, rear or both?
  8. I used 2x4 blocks on my Harbor Freight jack and ended up having it sit there for a week. It was totally stable. And when I was moving the tire around trying to get it out I actually moved the bike and jack as one unit.
  9. At the first of the summer I bought a Road Star and I like that bike! But... I bought a Venture a few months ago for 2 up riding. The more I ride the Venture the more I want a RSTD (or older 2nd Gen Venture) for an everyday bike. Sooo, I posted the Road Star in the classifieds. If someone out there has a RSTD that is just too tall for them then you'll love the low seat height and handling of a Road Star. I still want a Roadie but three bikes in the garage would be too many right now.
  10. From my experience a couple of weeks ago I don't think the diameter is different but there is a bead just past the lip that the tire has to get over. And it is a beach to get over it! But I have a couple of hundred on mine now and no problems.
  11. It actually did pretty good for me. 883 Sporty. Most fun I ever had (till my Yami's) was the '76 Sporty I had.
  12. Thanks! Mine's on the way!
  13. Venture would be my choice too but I'll bet there's going to be some going on now!
  14. Put another 100 miles on it this evening and I still can't tell that it handles any differently than a MC tire. And I think I'll leave it at 42lbs.
  15. I got my CT on last Saturday and did the full driveline lube while I was at it. It's the Kumho 165/80R15. I static balanced it with 1 oz. First of all, I would probably order a Vredestien if I did it again; just to see if it's any better. The Kumho took 110/112lbs to seat both sides and the sidewalls felt a little thin. On the wheel with air in the tire the sidewalls don't feel too bad. I'm running 42lbs right now. I finally got it all back together last night and rode it about 4 miles around the neighborhood. This morning I rode to work the long way 'round which included about 2 miles on the interstate up to 75mph. I'll be riding a bit more today. My first impressions are that I can't tell much, if any, difference between the handling of this and a MT. So at this point I have a tire that handles the same, cost a 1/3 of the MT I would have put on, has a 25% higher weight rating and should wear out 3-4 times slower than an MT. I may hate it tomorrow but I'm happy with it today! The driveline lube made the biggest noticeable difference. Much smoother and quieter now. (Stabbing the driveshaft was a PITA though.) If you haven't done it, I suggest you do it, asap. Made a world of difference. Now I gotta find me some RK mufflers!
  16. I did a test ride on a Vision a few months ago and I could live with it except for the dang noisy tranny. I remember the engine had some noise too that I didn't like... for a tourer, that is. The brake pedal was a bit forward more than I'm used to; may be a good thing. I rode a Triumph Rocket lll that day, too. They must have used the same tranny. LoL If it had a smoother shifting tranny and they actually made a tourer (fairing, trunk, etc) I would like that one a lot. Very easy to ride and... hmmm Civilized, would be the word, I guess. Until you twist the throttle. Then it Hulks out! Here's what I would like to see on the 2010 Venture: (In addition to the FI and new audio) 1800 *slightly* detuned V-Max engine. Redesigned dash w/ more info (water temp, volt meter, tach) and easier to read. Round gauges. Wider rear tire. Maybe a 200. Lower seat height.
  17. I would like to put some miles on a Triumph Rocket lll. I test road one a few months ago and to me it felt like riding a MUCH smaller bike... until I twisted the right wrist far enough then it HULKED out! I think I'll always have a Venture but a R3 with hard bags and a fairing would be sweeet!
  18. I would say the price isn't too bad... for a dealer. I bought my '07 from an individual with half that mileage for... a bit less that that. I hate buying from stealers. And theres nothing at all wrong with it having 30k miles.
  19. After installing the Kumho on mine I'd like to see someone order a Vredestein and see if it is any better. I just knew I was going to blow the Kumho up. It took 112-115lbs to seat the last side. And the sidewall felt pretty flimsy before I mounted it. I still haven't ridden yet. Too much "life" happening.
  20. There's a LOT that I like about it. As far as the look of the fairing, the Kaw website says it is going for a retro look on various parts of the bike. (Which I like) The first time I saw the headlight chrome I thought it looked like it came from a '57 Chevy. The only drawback that I see is legroom.

    Loud!

I was tearing down my RSV getting ready to install a new rear tire. Since I had the mufflers off I wanted to see just how loud it was. Blam, that's a loud summagun!
  23. Thanks guys! I didn't even notice the mounts. Guess I've made up my mind now. Think I'll go with stock Road King mufflers. Dirt cheap and good sound.
  24. I just came across this video on YouTube. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ6A5yBT9Fk]YouTube - 2004 yamaha venture engine[/ame] It's a little loud but this is the best sounding Venture that I have ever heard. Anyone know which exhaust this is?
  25. I'm not trying to knock you guys that bought the Carbtunes, but that is just one more reason that I built a 2 bottle manometer. I spent $5-$10 compared to $100+ and there is nothing to adjust to be accurate. And I enjoy doing it along with the tinkering and working on the bike.
