after market mufflers for 08 RSTD
BigBoyinMS replied to bjstone's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
As they say, we are all different. I like a good sound from the pipes myself but I don't care for a lot of noise either. I actually had a set of Road King mufflers and was going to do the swap but I started to listen to the stock RSV mufflers and decided the little bit of rumble they have is just fine for me now. I also have a 2006 Road Star that I bought with Bub's Big Willy pipes and the "performance" baffles. It's a good sound but way louder than I like. It's less fun for me to ride than the RSV because of the loudness. (Before anyone ask why I haven't swapped to a quieter exhaust, I was going to but now I'm considering trading it for an older RSV to turn into a daily solo rider.) To each his own. -
Most shops don't use a torque wrench anymore but the better shops at least have a set of "Wheel Torque Extension Sockets". http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/public/s_e8vOcFCDIW6EOA3tLzHKbKcx_GHSsYbS_Vy7L2PjsSiU3OE3uwW5Go8RfARei77FHyEkRo6IvVrHV2IRZlG1tyQ5Dpkt_Iry_gkJqtY_cUK9n2bBpiGT_-4EBl70IohF2gaWJ7wmjN5pHEBA=s90 The tech will use them with an impact wrench and they flex radially to get the torque close. The "not so good" shops will just use an impact and a regular socket and hope nothing breaks.

Problem solved! Just put the Warrior in the bed of a truck and tow the truck! http://www.thehomeland.org/imagez/towbike_d.jpg (Yes, I know they tow in the city and t slow speeds probably.)

I was surprised to see an auto museum of this size and quality in Tupelo, MS. An over $6,000,000 collection in 120,000 sq ft. http://www.tupeloautomuseum.com/index.php http://www.tupeloautomuseum.com/images/shell/pic_overview.jpg

Welcome back to the flock!

I would say Steve gave you a really good answer. You and I are about the same size. Add my wife and a fully loaded bike and I'm hauling about 475-480. And, like you, I have never had a lot of confidence in the tires to handle the load. (Even though I know they will.) That being said, I have all the confidence in the world now but it's only because I went to a car tire on the rear. It has a 25% higher load limit and better traction than the highest rated M/C tire that I could find. A good set of M/C tires will do the job for you but there is an option.

Drilling Stock Mufflers
BigBoyinMS replied to Whitlow's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
sconie, it "looks" like your mufflers have already been modified. Those 4 holes do the same thing as the mod that has been described. Edit: Here is a pic of the rear of my '07. Only one big exit hole. Those 4 in yours will actually add up to more that that one large one plus there is still some exhaust coming from the center hole. http://www.daraq.com/images/RSVmufflers.jpg -
I just got my seats back. Tell me what you think.

THAT LOOKS GOOOOOOOD! -
The adhesive in it is cyanoacrylate (super glue) but everything about it looks good. Says it works great for ABS. And it's available from Amazon.com.

I know a lot of us have the 1.5" riser extensions on our RSV's and I don't think anyone has found a great replacement for the 2 rubber dampers that go between the handlebars and fairing to keep the fairing from rattling and flexing. I know some carve up the originals or force them in at some odd angle. I haven't had anything in mine in 2 years and was just going to leave it as is until last week when I found something that works well. I work at a Honda auto dealer and on the new Honda Crosstour there is a cover that hangs by two cords from the liftgate to hide whatever you may have in the rear package area. At the end of each cord is a rubber ball that fits perfectly snug between the bars and the fairing. They are working great on mine so far. I just pushed them in place and they haven't moved. Honda part# is 84413-TP6-A01 and 2 of them should be less that $5.00 and 1-2 days to order in.

Actually, it seems that tire pressures vary per bike and rider once the tire gets about 1000 miles on it. I've tried as low as 28lbs and actually started at 42lbs. I ended up at 38lbs and I keep it there whether it's just my big self or 2-up loaded down which is a load close to 500lbs. As far as brand of tire, if I can't find a Kumho when I need another tire for THIS bike, I may have a Venture for sale.

Comparing the Strato/Roadliner AND a Vulcan 2000
BigBoyinMS replied to BigBoyinMS's topic in General Tech Talk
Thanks for the replies. I may have to try out a Vulcan but I know I'll probably end up with what I know is a fine bike... a 'Liner. -
I'm thinking hard about adding another bike or trading my Road Star and I was pretty much decided on a Yamaha Roadliner or Stratoliner; but then I started researching the Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 and it's definitely in the mix now. I was just wondering if anyone has owned both or had a chance to ride both to compare them in power, riding position and comfort. I've been on a Liner a couple of times and would be happy with one but I'm understanding that the Vulcan gives a little more room to stretch out and a lower seat height. Anyone?

Motus MST Tourer Public Debut at Daytona
BigBoyinMS replied to Michael_Bishop's topic in Watering Hole
Everything that I was seeing on their website was sounding great... then I watched the video and what I saw and heard isn't too impressive. It sounds kind of rough to me. Not like a finished, ready for mass production, motorcycle. And the acceleration sounds I heard on the video didn't match the non-acceleration that I saw. He twisted the grip and it sounded like it was blasting off but it hardly moved. Maybe it was just bad film-making or something. I actually hope it ends up being everything that it says it will. And I want a cruiser and a tourbike model.- 9 replies

Those 3 would be my choices. Amsoil would be #1 if anyone stocked it locally in a parts store. Mobil 1 Racing 4T (which is M/C specific) is what I use because it has the most Phosphorus & Zinc of any readily available oils. P&Z is VERY important for the longevity of our non-cat, flat tappet engines. If neither of the others was available it would be the Rotella T6. It has an acceptable amount of P&Z. And it's a great oil. I switched from Rotella T to the Synthetic T6 in my Cummins and my mileage increased by 15%.

As soon as they put that drivetrain in a well designed cruiser or tourbike, I'm ready. 750 watt (62.5 amp) alternator, 140 hp/120 tq... oh yeah!

1. I very seldom forward anything. 2. If I do forward, I use BCC. It's a pet peeve of mine. I hate to see others that have no idea what they are doing putting peoples email info out for the world to see when it was meant for just one person.

For sure, get the hub apart and clean the pins and bushings and lube them. Dry pins can cause a lot of noise and vibration. Here's a bulletin on "how to".

I don't know if you would call this a blooper but it's the funniest thing that I have ever seen. I've seen it every so often for years and I still laugh every time. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYE4XSMTAmU]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYE4XSMTAmU[/ame]

That should do the job but remember... RSV's have an oil pan that drops below the frame rails. You'll need to get Carbon One's lift adapters or some blocks to space the rear lift arm.

It seems my interests change every so often but currently I'm collecting guns and modding a couple. As the hours that I work go up, my hobby time goes down.

I would think they are looking at it like, "I can buy this bike for $8000 with 41,000 miles or I can buy the other with 10,000 miles less for a few hundred more." They see a perceived value there. People will be people.
