First, a link for you... http://www.nopaypal.com/ I was almost ripped off by them after almost 7-8 years of no problems. I say almost because, as a seller, I would always empty the PP account as soon as the money hit it and that saved me. Long story short, I got back a damaged phone (seller swapped a damaged one for a good one) and PP wanted me to reimburse them for refunding him. They are still waiting. The biggest issue with PP after my dealings with them is that they have inexperienced and brainless employees making these decisions for them.

Cut down windshield
BigBoyinMS replied to BigBoyinMS's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks for the replies everyone. I didn't think about the passenger and the buffeting. I actually bought this bike for when we both can ride together and I set-up my Road Star just for me. I'm wanting to sell my Roadie and get another Venture to strip down just for me. Kinda like a H-D Streetglide. If so then I'll probably swap out the windshields and cut down the Clearview. LoL If I had any more room in the garage I would already have another... like the red one in Houston. -
Do any of you guys have a cut down windshield; meaning at least 3-4" under your line of sight? If so, what do you think of it? Like it? Hate it? Does your head get buffeted too much? The previous owner had installed a Clearview but the top of it is directly at my line of site level so I'm always trying to sit up or I'm slouching. Actually, I hate to look through a windshield; much rather look over them. I'm considering cutting 2-3" off this Clearview but just wondering if I should go taller instead.

Just FYI, but from the info I read on the "Venture History" page, it may actually be a 2001 model because of the color. Could be a bargaining point.

As far a sliding distance... I was on an '83 FLH riding at 40 mph about 200 ft behind a line of cars just as it started drizzling. Someone at the front of the line stopped suddenly and the cars started locking up brakes. It startled me so I got on the rear brake too hard and went down. It took all of that distance for me to stop sliding. In fact, when the bike stopped, my wife sat up and bumped her helmet on the rear bumper of the last car. If you think about it, the bike was only sliding on about 1-2 sq inches of metal; where the hiway bar peg pivoted and the lower bend of the rear bag guard.

I had one screw come out of the mechanism that holds the lid up and it did the same thing. Get your hand inside and try to keep it from pivoting. No need for any pressure or force.

Check the idle speed before Carbtune
BigBoyinMS replied to Canuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I bought this multimeter just for this purpose but it never read correctly. Got everything from 200 rpm to 25000 rpm. It went back. -
I've been doing "his plan" all my adult life. 30+ years. 1. Save, save, save. 2. Pay cash when you buy anything. 3. Take your time to find the best price. 4. Never buy new. Let the other guy take the initial big depreciation hit. Take it from me, it's worth it!

Cold Engine / Exhaust
BigBoyinMS replied to venturega's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Took me long enough to reply! Yes, they all 4 do enrich. So much for my theory. I've only noticed it do it once and as good as mine runs I'm not touching a thing. -
Hey guys, help me out here. I haven't been around any other Ventures to compare my bike to so I need some help deciding if I have noise issues that can be improved on. My '07 has a fairly loud (at certain RPM's) but very tolerable gear whine. Or it sounds like a gear whine. I can't say that I have heard a "chirp". Now, what I call a "whine' is an even continuous noise. Where a "Chirp" is a series of spaced noises like a spot on a wheel or clutch basket rubbing on every revolution. I've read a lot of threads on this and it seems some people call chirps whines and whines chirps. LoL And some posts make me think that the 'I' basket fix will help the whine when it fixes the chirp. So, I have a whine that varies by speed. Will the 'I' basket do me any good? It would be warrantied but I don't want someone else tearing it apart if it isn't the fix for the noise that I have. Thanks for any replies!

Hey Bigfoot. You may want to do this... You can unbolt the top bracket and reverse it. It will allow the backrest to go back further. You can't use the adjusting screw anymore tho. It will go back far enough that I had to adjust it a little by taping a thin piece of steel (or a couple of dimes, etc) on the spot where it the adjusting screw used to adjust against. Now it's perfect!

Can't speak for all systems, but the one they used where I worked just allows the air to escape then it filters out the oxygen as it refills the tire. This is done twice and a gauge shows the percentage of Nitrogen in the tire. Doing it that way supposedly got it to 98% Nitrogen. The only way to get 100% would be to pull a vacuum and refill with pure Nitrogen from a tank.

Easy fix, seaking. (sorta. You have to have at least one) First, log in. At the top of the page choose "UserCP" Then at the left of the page choose "Edit favorite smilies" Then put a check next to 1 or 2 that you can live with. (You have to have at least one.) At the bottom of the page "Save"

I know sorta how you feel, hipshot. When I was 19 I was stronger rather that smarter so I picked up the front of a Honda car while the driver was revving trying to leave. I couldn't drop it because (I thought) he had it in forward gears. That pain only lasted a few days but it messed up a muscle and at age 30 I started having episodes where it would suddenly pull my spine out of line and pinch nerves. Seemed like once a year it would happen and I would be in bed in horrible pain for a week to week and a half. And it always seemed to be aching. I'm happy to say that I have been lucky. Either my Chiro did good work or I healed over time. Hardy ever any issue with in in the last few years. Oh, and I've done the laying on the floor with the keyboard thing many days.

Roadliner 1900 S to a Venture... Should I take the plunge?
BigBoyinMS replied to jgreenfi's topic in Watering Hole
It would be a hard choice for me. In fact, it was. Sorta. I bought a Road Star a few months before I bought the Venture. It's hard for me to choose one over the other so I kept both. -
I was working at a Nissan dealer 6-8 months ago and had them fill the Avons on my Road Star. I've been checking the pressure and have not had to add any air yet. Don't know if it's because of the N or not.

They may not need a hi/low transition. The type of light may work for the driver and the oncoming traffic. In other words, it could be bright enough to light up all the road but soft enough to not blind oncoming traffic. Just a thought.

Oh Yeah! I like! But, I'll bet when they first come on the market they will be more than HID's.

Down to $2.19 here in my area. And diesel for my truck is $2.94. By the time I drive it again it'll probably be back up to $5.

Your in your CAR and wish you where on your bike when.....
BigBoyinMS replied to Gone14S's topic in Watering Hole
I also have rapped my hand on the left door trying to wave at a passing biker. --- You slam your left leg into the drivers door trying to put your foot down at a stop. (Yep, I did) -
WoW! That's a good looking one! Oak case and all! I've always wanted one of those huge, really old mechanical ones with the pendulums, weights, chains and gears. Hmmm Not sure if you have weights AND pendulums but you get the idea.

Cold Engine / Exhaust
BigBoyinMS replied to venturega's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'll try to check the manual when i get home and verify. I'm just guessing at the moment. If the carb is like the Mikuni on my Road Star then it's actually an enrichener that doesn't "choke" but instead adds gas... which is why that side would smoke and be warmer. -
I just changed the rear on mine. I laid the wheel next to my 6x16 trailer and used a piece of 1x2 oak cut at an angle and a 5ft piece of pipe as a bead breaker. Very easy and cost $0.00. I bought 3 full size tire irons from Harbor Freight for about $15.
