Avon tire size
BigBoyinMS replied to captnmidnight's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just checked the Avon website to be sure. They don't have a front tire in WW in the size needed but they do have the front size in WW in a rear tire. All you have to do is put it on in reverse direction. And you get longer wear life, higher load rating, speed rating and, although I couldn't verify it, probably an extra 1/16 tread depth. A lot of darksiders do this to get a tire that will last nearly as long as the CT. -
Moss? Y'mean like on a sloth? Or is it...

Fram and Excellent used in the same sentence?! :no-no-no: -
Congrats guys. I still have about 8-10k to go on my front ME880 before I need to change. The PO gave it to me when I bought the bike and I installed it before I even started thinking about Darksiding.

I know Moly-60 is THE lube to use but I ran across this on some bike guys website. "An alternative to moly is the new poly-flourinated lubricants made by DuPont called Krytox Teflon Bearing Grease. These chemicals are simply magic. They have almost no known solvents, are chemically inert, and don't burn at any temperature, even in a pure oxygen atmosphere. This is pretty clearly the only grease to use. See this article. Nascar mechanics have found that Krytox grease can reduce the temperature of spline joints on drive shafts by 150°. Also, this stuff lasts forever. It is, unfortunately, quite expensive." How expensive? The Moly60 is roughly $10 for 8 oz from your Honda or Acura car dealer. That same 8 oz of Krytox is... $147.54!! Or 2 oz for $44.55. :shock3: I'm happy with the Moly60.

The tire size for the front will still be either the 130/80R16 (MT90-16) or 150/80R16 just as always. Your choice in width. Just order that size in a rear tire. Edit: I just noticed Avon makes a 140/90R16.. hmmmm

That sounds like a plan. If someone in Hattiesburg hosted it you could pull in more folks. They don't call it the 'Hub City' for nothing! But the coast isn't too far either. If nothing else a "Royal Star Day" at Paul B. or Flynt Creek. Just throwing ideas out...

How did I miss this post? LoL You did just what I was going to recommend... went to the Darksiders forum. As you know I run 42 lbs and love it but my max printed on the tire is 44lbs. Personally I would probably try the low 40's if it was mine. It's got more plys than the Kumho so I can't see it being a problem.

Sounds like he's pulling a REALLY good one on you!

I have a bias on the front... and, of course, a radial on the rear.
-
Looking good. Almost a twin of the Kumho. It was a toss up between the two when I ordered.
-
I read about drilling after I had installed mine. This past weekend I was tinkering and just put some weight on the rear outside corner and they lined right up. Didn't bend anything.

Here is a link to the wiring for the relay. The relay is commonly called a "30 amp Bosch relay". They used to be the most common relay around. Used for wiring almost any kind of accessory. Chevy even used it on some vehicles. Just wish I had a part# for you. If you can find an older guy at a parts store he should know what to give you.

Geico here too. Just hope they aren't as bad as Progressive when/if I ever need them.

I can only say what I would do... but for tire life, yes, a Car Tire on the rear. I run a Kumho on the rear but the BFG may be a better choice for this run. The BFG is a 2-ply sidewall and (I think) 4 ply tread. On the front I would run a good brand rear tire but in reverse rotation. This combo SHOULD give you close to twice the miles before needing to change them. And better resistance to road hazards. As far as the 2 outlets wired direct... I would put them on a relay activated by the switch just as insurance that I didn't leave something on and kill the battery in the middle of nowhere. And that brings up the battery. Just from reading when I was looking for a battery last week... the advertising says an AGM (absorbed glass mat) battery will hold up better to vibration and rough riding. Might be a good time to get a new battery. Good luck and I'd love to make the trip myself one day!

Oh, forgot to mention... the reason that you reverse it on the front is because front and rear tread patterns are reversed. So to get the tread pattern correct you just mount it in reverse.
-
Believe it or not, you can put it on the front of your bike. Just mount it in reverse rotation. That's what I'll be doing the next time I need a front tire. You should be able to do a search and get more info on it. EDIT: The one's that do it say the handling is the same but being a heavier built tire they should get better life from it.

Here is a great reason to NOT totally rely on a GPS... especially if you are a moron! News story

Welcome aboard! Hope it works for you as well as it does for me.

Passenger arm rest pads?

3M makes a double stick that is super thin and super strong. Probably the same stuff. If I find the part# I'll edit here. EDIT: I think this may be what you need. "3M™ Acrylic Foam Tape 4257 is a 0.38 mm (0.015 in) thick, gray, double-coated acrylic foam tape" -
I didn't plan it... but it sure worked out.
-
Oh... I forgot to mention... as good as they look, the blue ones are still faster.

I went to the Great Southern Cycle Expo in Jackson(MS) Saturday. As expected, it was 85% H-D but I started out parking next to an '07 RSV and there was an '05(I think) a few spaces away. As I walked in there was another '07 by the gate and another super clean '05 not far away. BUT, as I was leaving I passed the first Midnight that I have seen in person. WOW! I'm not usually into black bikes (even tho my other bike is an '06 Roadie Midnight) but there is something about the way the Midnight RSV puts it all together. It's hard to believe that sales were so slow that they stopped the Midnights in '07.
