The chroming on their billet tips does suck. It seems they aren't prepped for the chroming at all. I have a Road Star with a set of Bub's and 1/2 the chrome is off the tips. I saw a set of Bub's on a Venture when I was looking to buy mine and they looked just as bad.

New Bluetooth headsets....review coming
BigBoyinMS replied to FreezyRider's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I just read a review on this less than 5 mins ago. These people tested a set and really liked them. Review -
And Wolo says theirs is 118db... but no distance is mentioned.

The Kumho I run is Chinese but doesn't act anything like what was described for the Nexen. I've been at 40-42lbs since putting it on and no issues at all.

I don't know how I missed it... but I'm glad I did. I don't have any more room in the garage!

Stebel Compact Nautilus installation
BigBoyinMS replied to beche14's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just thought that I would mention again... mount the relay with the terminals pointing down. The previous owner installed the one on my bike upside down and it filled with water and corroded. -
I haven't had a comment before now but the way I see it, you CAN "damn the entire company". They should step up and make it right. Think about it... a multimillion dollar company and now they know this one incident is being hashed out by a forum with 7000 members. What would I do if I was in charge, and knew a representative of the company screwed up? I would make sure the company took responsibility and did what it took to correct it. They should do it even if it had never been posted about here. Any insurance company can (and HAS to) pay a claim. It's how they handle these uncommon situations that shows what kind of company they are.

What Year To Buy??
BigBoyinMS replied to t-binger's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I think the main reason anyone complains about the power of any '99-up Venture is because they are shifting too early. If you twist the throttle and let it go... they go! I have an '07 RSV and an '06 1700 Roadie and because they are 2 such different engines I can't say which would win in a race. But they both will go! -
Ditto what the other guys are saying. I run a Kumho PowerStar 758 in 165/80R15. The M/C tire has a load rating of around 900lbs. The Kumho has a load rating of 1202lbs. Just one of the reasons that I like it. Handles just like an MC tire but grips better. I'm usually riding 2 up at 72-75mph. Me 300lbs and the 'boss' is just over 100. My Venture will never see an MC tire on back again... and when the front wears out I will have a reversed rear MC tire on the front wheel.

I'm thinking of doing the H-D muffler swap on my RSV and can get a set from an '08 Ultra Classic. I got to checking on info on removing the cat's and found out that some late model H-D's don't have cat's in the mufflers... the cat's are in the head pipe. Does anyone know where the cat is on the '08 Ultra Classic?

Calling all Farkle Freaks
BigBoyinMS replied to Bigfoot's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
And be sure that you mount the relay with the terminals pointing DOWN. Otherwise your horn will eventually stop working when the relay fills with water and the guts corrode. -
Yep, same here. I was on a 2 lane state road Saturday and looked back in time to see an ambulance coming up behind me all lit up and sirens going. I saw him in enough time to get over but not enough time to stop. He blew past me just as an oncoming car passed. Too close.

Which antifreeze to use?
BigBoyinMS replied to safetyguy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
But all coolants AREN'T compatible with each other. Yami uses ethylene glycol type coolant which is the standard cheap stuff. You can use anything but flush the system of any old coolant before using anything different.- 17 replies

Need help...To Trike or not to Trike? That is the question.
BigBoyinMS replied to Aimhigh's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
I have always liked trikes and would love to have one. I wouldn't mind a Venture trike but for me this is almost the perfect trike... www.cheetahtrikes.com And no worry about power or if you are putting too much weight in the trailer. -
This is what I do making use of things I have. Lay the tire and wheel next to your truck or, in my case, the trailer that I haul my tractor on. Cut a 2x2 or 2x4 at an angle and as tall as the vehicle frame. Then use a long piece of pipe or 2x4 as a lever, put it under the frame and on top of the 2x and push down to break the bead. Doing it that way was the easiest part of changing my rear tire.

I would say it's pretty normal, especially if your older (like me). Almost anytime I'm on the Venture I'm using the cruise.

I notice that some have a hard time finding some maintenance items we need for our bikes... OR some are marked up so high that we don't WANT to get them from Yamaha. I've worked in auto parts for the last 30 years so I used that experience to find a few alternatives. They are parts that will fit and are easier to find or they are less expensive than factory but they are all available at either Nissan,Toyota or Honda car dealers. It's only a few numbers now but if I find more I'll add to them. Parts List

Question - oil change and final drive oil.
BigBoyinMS replied to Sunman's topic in General Tech Talk
Oil drain plug washer. Local Honda car dealer. Part# 94109-14000 We sell them for .32 cents each and keep 100-200 on hand all the time. I'm a huge tightwad but no way will I mix oil... unless I'm using it as bar oil for my chainsaw. The rear diff is vented so the little extra that you added won't hurt anything. It may push a little out the vent. And the rectifier is part of the charging system. -
My '07 RSV with the stock pillow seat is the first bike that I have been able to ride with a stock seat without butt pain. Tank fill to tank fill is no problem. But if I ever do need to change it sounds like the Corbin would be it. Maybe. It seems that I keep hearing complaints about quality and customer service since they announced they are trying to sell the company. Or has it sold already? Just hope they get back on track.

Personally, I would stay a member. It seems that most have no problem with you and your son so I wouldn't let the 1-2 bad apples deter you. But I'm sure there is some sort of leadership there and I would get their word that the guilty party would be expelled if he was found out and if he was a member. And I would want it announced to all what happened and hope someone would come forward... and if so a good stomping would be in order. Hey, I didn't say I would be totally civil about it!

:BLUE: Good to have you here, neighbor!

Uhh, that is the Honda MSDS. That's where I got it. I work in parts at a Honda dealership and that came from the Honda Interactive Network for the Honda Moly-60 part-no 08734-0001.

Sorry it took so long to reply... 'job' gets in the way. Here ya go... Moly60_MSDS.pdf Yeah, I thought the same about ThreeBond but you see the MSDS. The only way I could get close to 60% moly was by throwing out the "petroleum". Now it's confusing. It looks like it's less Moly than we were led to believe because of the way they figure the percentage? See the next link... does that company (Dow Chemical) just not list the "petroleum" or carrier grease and that is why their percentage looks correct? Molykote77_MSDS That is Molykote77 assembly lube. The MSDS shows it to be greater than 60% Moly and 3-7% Lithium... by weight, plus a polymer at 15-40% and less than 1% quartz. I was thinking of using this until I read in the Honda description that it lubes AND polishes. That must be where the quartz comes in. So, what do you think? I'm just more confused. Anyway, my main point to begin was that there is also Lithium in Moly60. Edit: I just saw an MSDS for Dow Molykote MI-60 grease. It list Moly at 3-7% by weight! What's the deal with the Moly60 products! LoL

When I bought my RSV it already had the flashing headlamp, LED light bar under the trunk, the Stebel and a few other items. Bur as far as things that I did... I would have to say the Kumho car tire on back is #1 but the backrest is a close 2nd!
