The Strat would be my first choice. The only drawbacks to a Stratoliner are the limited number of accessories and the short rear tire life. From looking into buying one myself it seems the tire life is about 7000 miles. Because of that, it seems a larger percentage of 'liner owners go to the Darkside than other bike owners. But the Victory would be a great choice too.

Loaded is right! Is the kitchen sink hanging off of the other side?

I'm planning to have a nice sized shop, also, when I'm done. In fact, we had planned to do that first but we so want to move out of town! I've been storing all 3 bikes and doing all my tinkering in the front 8-9 feet of the garage. No fun.

Well, I sold the '07 2 weeks ago. I always said I would keep the Venture over the Road Star but I knew the Venture would sell faster and for more $$. Why did I need to sell either one? I have no time to enjoy it because of a combination of added hours at work... and the time I do have my wife and I spend at the property that we bought last year, working on getting it ready for a home. (We spent ALLL day yesterday burning a brush pile in 95+ degree weather.) But, fear not! (or Fear a lot!) I'll have another in a year or so once we get settled in the new place. But, I may give in to temptation. I find myself scanning Search Tempest lately and almost called on a Millennium edition last week but I talked myself out of it. And I'll still be hanging around here just as always.

lee ray, I also use a 2 bottle manometer that I made. As you say, just touching the screws will make a change. It takes three hose changes but it works great for me. I do set the idle around 2500 rpm to do the sync though.

On Freebirds link they actually have a chart showing "real world" decibels about halfway down the page. The Hellas they tested were actually louder than everything else... BUT... Go to this link- "Horn sounds" - and listen to the different horns. I'll take almost anything over the sound of the Hellas.

I'm a bit bigger than you and the Venture is the best bike that I've ever had for comfort, power, etc. I think you would be happier with it over the Voyager.

See if this old post that I made helps... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=521558&postcount=7

Prices on rear shock
BigBoyinMS replied to flb_78's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hmmm I'm wondering if Hagon can supply a progressive spring with that shock. One of the best upgrades to a Road Star is a progressive. The stock non-progressive is about a 750lb spring but the progressive has a range from about 800lbs to 1250lbs. Progressive meaning that it gets stiffer the more it's compressed. When I need a shock I'll be looking into Hagon. -
Lucky man! I would have a permanent grin from that tour. I was always a GM guy (drove a '70 SS Chevelle in H.S) but the few Mopars I did see always caught my eye. Would LOVE to have a '70 Super Bee 440 with the pistol grip 4-speed.

Oil filter brand
BigBoyinMS replied to Galapagos's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I'll just make a comment on the oil. Most autos these days have roller tappets because oil makers are dropping the amount of phosphorus and zinc (ZDDP) in oil because of the EPA. Our bike engines still have flat tappets and higher levels of zinc & phosphorus are needed for them. A lot of us use Rotella (I used to) and it used to have enough ZDDP but even it has dropped below the level we need. I don't know how the spring pressures compare between the Royals and Road Stars but a small percentage of Road Star owners have had lifter failures. The lifter base and cam lobe worn away. It could be a combination of the extra heat, higher spring pressure and low ZDDP. It was enough that I have decided to stick with Amsoil or Mobil 1 cycle oil. Mobil 1 motorcycle oils have between 1600-1700 ppm which is great. Rotella used to be at 1300 ppm which was a bare minimum for flat tappets. It's 200-300 below that now. You can see from this chart what regular auto oil is now. http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Files/Mobil_1_Product_Guide.pdf FYI, it's also something to think about if you have an older flat tappet car. -
I've posted this before but I have both and it's hard for me to choose between the two. For everyday riding to work I'm usually on the Roadie. I rode H-D's for 30 years. Believe me, when it comes to vibration it's much closer to a Royal Star than a Harley. Where Harley mirrors are useless at idle (and most other speeds), you can see clearly from a Roadie mirror. But $9800 for an '08 Road Star sounds about $2000 high.

305 Chev - Boat I/O - I could use some help.
BigBoyinMS replied to GolfVenture's topic in Watering Hole
It's almost definitely an electrical issue from your description of the symptoms. And since he has already converted the distributor (or at least the internals of it) then the problem is going to be somewhere before the distributor. I would start by checking for loose connections and then for abrasions in any of the wiring... in addition to the suggestions in the above replies. That's my nickels worth. Good luck! -
The one that we have here is more commonly called the "fruit loop". Overall I would say it's safe... until you have the idiot that thinks those entering it have the ROW.

The few times that I have used these they worked like a charm. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00952154000P

I thought you stopped having Birthdays!

Yes. No. Maybe. Actually, only Yamaha Corp. knows the answer to that question and they never give up any info.

Man, I feel for you, Mike! Last year I was tempted to take my RSV in to the dealer (same dealer I'm thinking) to let them warranty the rear shock for me because of it groaning. (No fat guy jokes! ) Although I was still considering it, this was enough to make me decide to run it till it takes a dump and pay the money for a new one. If I can't just give them a shock and get a new one back in a box then it just isn't worth it to me.

Everyone seems to end up with a different pressure. I started at 42 and went as low as 28 but 38 felt the best for me.

I would agree with what's been said before... "Come on and buy it, but bring CASH ONLY!" Anything else is taking a chance. And although PayPal is a great concept and works great the majority of the time, they WILL allow and assist a buyer in screwing you. PayPalSucks.com has 1000's of stories of it happening. I even had it happen to me but I ALWAYS sucked the money out as soon as it came in to PayPal so they actually screwed themselves. They can only take/hold the money that they have in your PayPal account, they can't take any from your bank account. From my dealings with them I would say that their biggest drawback is that the people that make these decisions concerning our money are 20 something college dropouts. In my case, they told me they were going to refund the guys money when I got my item back and for me to contact them when it arrived. When it arrived the buyer had pulled a switcheroo. He kept my working item and all the extra accessories and had sent back a damaged non-working one that looked just like it. I called them, talked to a young male 'robot' and told them what the buyer had returned. The next day I get a form email thanking me for informing them that I had received my item and that they had refunded the buyers money and for me to transfer money from my bank account to cover it. They're still waiting for that to happen.

I would buy two if it were all true... but... http://www.ucan.org/gasoline_autos/gas_prices/volkswagon_really_selling_car_600 "The Web site Truth or Fiction investigated and reports the following: If it is produced, the car will have a price tag of $26,000, not the $600 touted in the e-mail below. Contrary to the e-mail's claim that it only seats one person, Truth or Fiction says it carries two passengers, has a carbon fiber body, a 299cc single-cylinder diesel engine, anti-lock brakes; airbag and an electronic stability program. Wow. A one-cylinder engine with less displacement than a dirt bike. A standard muffin toaster has more horsepower than that, and they don't cost $26,000. For years VW has claimed that its cars deliver Fahrvergnügen (that's German for "driving enjoyment"), but for $26K we have to wonder if they're Fahrvern Crazy. But it sure is cute, isn't it?" Anyway, enough said. Smurfs need cars, too, you know. Auf wiedersehen.

Any VR/PGR from here going to Brandon Ms. tomorrow
BigBoyinMS replied to fixit3546's topic in Watering Hole
I can't but from what I've been seeing and hearing there will be a multitude there. If those Westboro idiots had any sense they would be headed home right now... which means they are sure to be there. -
Where the HE$$ does the seat nuts go.
BigBoyinMS replied to Eddie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
All small parts that are dropped when working on a Yamaha fall into the same place on the bike. Problem is that no one has found that place yet. -
Great job, Don. I like it this way.

I found a couple of different brands of "Dry Moly Lube" and the MSDS on one says 1% moly by weight. The other says 1%-5% by weight. This is one of the MSDS... http://complyplus.grainger.com/grainger/msds.asp?sheetid=3842023
