  1. No problems using the 165/80R15... it's the same height as the stock tire so the speedo will STILL show 7% fast.
  2. I had a redlight incident myself in Biloxi when we rode to the Coast M&E 2 weeks ago. Two of us were caught by a redlight and the other two were waiting about 1/4 mile ahead. We were in the right lane and a newer Mercedes was in the left. When the light finally changed I pulled away and normally I never see a car beside me after that but I noticed the Mercedes was staying with me. I looked over and the occupants were laughing and looking over at me. I realized they were trying to pass me. So I twisted the throttle (still in 1st) and ran it to the rev limiter then shifted... and that's when I remembered I had my wife with me! At that point I forgot the Mercedes and kept waiting for the blow up side my head! Luckily she calmly made a comment along the lines of "You shouldn't be racing your bike". I think that calm comment shocked me as much as anything!
  3. These are actually some that I have been looking at. I've seen them mentioned in other threads as being pretty decent.
  4. I've decided to get some headsets but the more I read the more confused I get. I would rather be cordless but from what I read Bluetooth won't really get me connected to the bikes audio. Maybe there is an adapter for that but I really haven't seen that there is. Anyway, I've decided to go corded but I'd like some advice from those who know. I would like to stay around $100 per headset but if there is nothing but junk at that price then I have no problem buying the better ones. I'll give you as much info as I can... '07 RSV Helmets will be shorty or 1/2 helmets. I plan on buying Mic-mutes. Ok friends, advise away!
  5. I know I sound like a broken record but the Kumho on mine has never given me any problem. And I don't think I've heard of anyone feel like their Kumho was slipping. In fact, mine is the opposite. It grips better than anything else I've had. I started at 42lbs for a few hundred miles and have had it at 40lbs until last Saturday when we did the Coast M&E. I dropped it to 35lbs as a test and for the entire trip I was aiming for tar snakes and any imperfection in the road so I could see how it handled them. No problem at all. And a lot of the trip was on wet roads as we were dodging the rain all day. FYI, my front tire is a German ME880 at 40lbs that was installed just before the CT. I've been wondering why some riders have different results. I'm starting to think that putting on a CT must bring out any issues with the front tire or vice versa or maybe some fronts don't play well with CT's. Or maybe I can't tell when I have a problem. I've probably crashed and burned and never even realized it. Maybe we will figure it out as more people get more miles on them.
  6. I think that 443 limit is probably artificially low just to cover their butt. And part of it is that the load limit of the rear tire is right at 900lbs. Add the riders weight plus the passengers weight plus the cargo and the weight of the bike then figure 60% if not a bit more of that is on the rear tire. You can fix that by mounting a car tire, which has a load limit of around 1200lbs. I ride a Venture which is heavier that the RSTD. I'm a big guy and with the wife on back plus a few things in the trunk and bags we are right at 450-460lbs plus the weight of the bike and soon to be adding a trailer. I have as much confidence riding it as a 150lb rider with a 100lb passenger. I was much less confident when I had a motorcycle tire on it.
  7. I think it was your rear tire spinning because it lost traction from all of that awesome 2nd Gen power. At least that's what you tell any 1st Gen or H-D riders traveling with you.
  8. Well, I've put it off long enough. It's time to get one of Larry's adapters. I'm just waiting on a reply from him on how to pay. I won't do PayPal anymore.
  9. Yep, like they say... I like it! And I would buy it today since I'm looking... for $300. $1099 will buy a decent low cost cargo trailer.
  10. The Yammi rack is on BO. I see they have a estimated ship date of the first week of September.
  11. I have a Diamond R on my '07 and in stock form it set me too far forward so I installed the mount arm in reverse. My wife (average sized) says she still has about 4" between her and the backrest. Hope that info helps.
  12. Murder Charge in Motorcycle Crash Murder Charge in Motorcycle Crash Published : Wednesday, 12 Aug 2009, 2:02 PM CDT A Haltom City woman is charged with murder for her involvement in a deadly crash. The incident happened on Tuesday in the 5800 block of E. Belknap. According to police, Tammy Sue Stegall's sedan struck a motorcycle being driven by 56-year-old Billy Ray Stroud of Bedford. Stroud later died at John Peter Smith Hospital as a result of the injuries, police said. Family friends said Stroud had recently buried his son, who was killed July 30 in Afghanistan. He bought his motorcycle about a week ago after seeing the Patriot Guard motorcycles at his son's funderal. Stegall, 50, was arrested on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter. The charge was upgraded to murder because she had two previous DUI convictions, police said. She was in jail on Wednesday on a $500,000 bond.
  13. CMIK PMed me about the eBay sale just after I ordered a Kuryakyn GL1500 rack. I just hope the quality is good.
  14. Now that you mention it I did take a look at it. The pics online make it look out of place but it looked good on your bike. I found a place online (Motoshop.com) that sells the Kuryakyn 7150 for the GL1500 for about $70 shipped so I've about decided to try that one. Hey, we definitely enjoyed ourselves too. I'm probably going to suggest a central MS M&E next month... I have a couple of places in mind according to where everyone is coming from and each one has an interesting ride that isn't too far out of the way. I'm hoping to have some communicators and new helmets next time, too!
  15. Looks like we're in the same boat. I decided mine needed a rack but the Yammi is no where to be found till next month... maybe then. I do like the looks of the H-D rack if it would fit. The Goldwing rack that they say fits looks a bit out of place to me.
  16. I did look at that one, but (to me) it looks out of place. I like billet but I like the round look to match the bag guards.
  17. One comment on using the phosphoric acid... It doesn't actually remove the rust but instead converts the rust (iron oxide) to iron phosphate that still has to be removed with the BB's or other physical method. I found that out the hard way. I had a tractor gas tank that had rust and thought the concrete etch would be the way to go. I'm still filtering that stuff out! LoL But it does come out easier than the rust would. Using a high pressure wand after the acid may possibly get it all.
  18. Thanks for the replies, guys. Looks like I'll probably be getting the Yammi rack. Mine stays in the garage unless I'm riding but lately it's been in the rain almost every time I ride! LoL We were pretty lucky Saturday going to the M&E on the coast. Somewhere around McHenry we saw a downpour coming and got a few drops just before pulling into a gas station. It seems that we were riding between storms all day but never really got wet.
  19. I'm going to add a trunk rack to my '07 but I have a couple of questions. I know I'll get opinions across the board but that's ok. Those that have had both, would you recommend the factory Star rack or one from a GL1500 GoldWing? I see that ChromeWorld and Drag Specialties (same part I believe) have a GL1500 rack for about 1/2 the price of the factory rack... Is the quality any good or will I be POed about rust later on? Or any other issue? Any advice or opinions will be helpful. I'd rather get the right one the first time. Thanks!
  20. Congrats, Annie! And for helmet hair... I'm always wearing my do-rag when I ride! I see you have the fastest colored bike, too!
  21. ...or go by your local Nissan or Infiniti dealer and pickup a filter. Correct bypass pressure and fit.
  22. Ditto on not loaning/not borrowing. That's one reason I have so much 'stuff'; I always buy it if I need it. When I was a dumb 'young man' I would loan things and not even think about it; just expect it to be taken care of and returned. I guess that stopped when I was looking for an expensive large socket a few years after I loaned it out and remembered that I had loaned it. But I couldn't remember to who.
  23. I've heard of similar C/T shakes/wiggles at high speed on other bikes. I've been to 90-95 per the GPS and rock solid. No idea what that could have been. Some have suggested a portion of one side not fully seated but I kind of think we would notice that.
  24. Hey Eck! Ever since I saw you start the other thread I have tried to work it out but so far I haven't been able to. I was lucky this Coast ride was when it was. I may still make it but, "it ain't lookin' good!"
  25. I'm ready! Still planning on meeting up at Mickey D's in Richland at 7AM for the trip down!
