I wish I knew. He and most anyone in the the family that would know have passed on. But I do have a memory from the early 60's of me and my brother riding together in the little (about 16" square) trunk area of a Cushman scooter with Dad driving. I doubt I could get both feet in now. Looked just like this but with no trunk lid... http://www.hobbytech.com/FeatureBikes/joe-wierschem.jpg

I guess my first ride alone was when I was 10-11 yrs old; around 1970. It was a Dual range Kawasaki (I think) that belonged to a visiting cousin. My first bike was a year or two after that; a Suzuki 100. I was always trading cars for bikes, too. Traded a '67 Cutlass for a Honda hardtail chopper with a bored 305 Dream engine. (I was told.) Traded a '58 Chevy Biscayne for a Honda CB400F. Traded a '70 Chevelle SS396 for a '75 Shovelhead Superglide... when I was 17. (Back then the Chevelle was a $1500 car) After this one I was hooked on the BIG bikes.

I'm with you on that. I'm far from a "G" rated guy but I definitely enjoy the site more without having to read some of the stuff that I have to hear on a daily basis. To tell the truth, I dislike most of the bike mags anymore. All the half nekkid girls just detract from what I bought the magazine for... and I like half nekkid girls! And all the words have a meaning and a "force" behind them that society, not the individual, gives them although some individuals can be more comfortable with them than others. To use an analogy, I would rather have a tap on the shoulder to get my attention than a slap upside the head. Just my nickels worth.

Hmmmm, come to think about it.... they did that with the Royal Stars already once. I guess that means it will be something like 2020 before we see a new version! Oh, no, wait... Everything ends in 2012.

A dozen trucks full of leaves, dumped on the lawn at 1 AM. A sign at their driveway " Leaf and Yard Debris Dumping Here". Everyone go back with their leaf blowers and put the leaves back where they came from. I know, stupid ideas... but wouldn't it feel good to be as stupid as some of the people that we have to deal with? Nahhhhh, not really. But I do agree that an "official" should be contacted so they can point out to these people the error of their ways. And they may just be so lacking between their ears that they have no idea that they did anything wrong. Example: My wife was coming home in our neighborhood when she passed a fellow a few years older than me and he was pushing all of his leaves and sticks into the storm drain. She actually stopped and got on to him about it. She said he seemed to genuinely think that it was there just for him to dispose of his trash in. (I don't really think he was THAT dumb but just playing dumb.)

My Journey to get a Venture (adVenture?)
BigBoyinMS replied to First_N_Last's topic in Watering Hole
Congrats, johnb! On the new-to-you bike AND the new tire. Sounds like a great trip you had there. Be sure and get us some pics of you new acquisition. Good luck and happy riding! Dave -
I certainly hope not. I've ridden the 'Liners and like the bike and would love to have one if I ever sell the Road Star, but it definitely isn't a Venture. If Yammi can't step up and build us the new Venture that I think most of us want (fuel injected, shaft drive and 1700cc 4cyl) then I'll be riding my '07 for a LONG time and buying used ones after that. In fact, I think Yamaha is driving a lot of the Venture riders to Gold Wings by taking so long to update the Venture and if they go to the Liner platform they will probably loose a lot more. ...but that's just my nickels worth.

Looks like modified Yammi bag guards and I used to see lights like those in the H-D catalogs. I think the were actually aftermarket chopper taillights.

SO! What are the AGES of the DRIVERS of VR.Org?
BigBoyinMS replied to Zfrebird4's topic in Watering Hole
I'll hit 51 in 5 weeks. Been in my 2nd childhood for about 30 years now. -
(First, I'm not getting anything from this. Just thought this could help out the bike owners here. And if this isn't where the post needs to be or if it's not allowed, feel free to move or delete.) If anyone is interested, there may be a quality replacement air adjustable shock available for us. I also have a Road Star and I'm a member at the Road Star Clinic. One of the members is "Tricky" of TrickyAir.com. A few of the Roadie riders have bought his air ride kits lately and have nothing but good things to say about his air ride kit and their dealings with him. I sent him a PM earlier asking if he could supply a replacement shock for our Royals and he said he probably already has a shock that would work but he would need pics and measurements. By the way... it comes with a small compressor for adjustments. If anyone is interested I'll put his info below for you. As far as pricing, check out his website. I believe they are all priced the same. And I know he will do a 3 hr discount at the Clinic every now and then... To give you an idea of what the kit is... http://roadstarclinic.com/images/fbfiles/images/rs2-d37200e2c0bd0a588f3fdeebbe56c5fa.JPG Tricky Air & Billet 695 Sol Colston Road Finger, TN. 38334 Email: sales@trickyair.com "Call toll free at 1-866-922-3533 call direct at 731-934-9472 if that's busy call 731-934-9470"

You're going to be in a world of hurt when you find out that MC tires will give you just as bad a wobble. (Oops! I just let the cat out of the bag!) From what I'm finding from reading posts here and on other forums, most (if not all) wobbles come from loose or out of alignment suspension parts, whether they be rear or front. At least tightening or replacing worn suspension parts has cured the wobble issue in a lot of cases. But I also wouldn't disagree that a CT, with it's better grip and slightly less rounded profile, will probably point out those problems a little quicker. Just saying all that to say that IMHO the CT isn't the cause, it just points out problems quicker. Again, that's just my opinion.

I would sure like to know what the common issue is that causes this 'wobble'. I was thinking about it yesterday and I could only come up with alignment which may or may not be the problem. Since there is more meat on the road you would think it would need to track as straight as possible. But even before I shimmed my driveline I had seen close to 100mph and rock steady. (And over that a couple of times since shimming.) I guess we will never know unless someone with the wobble actually figures it out and fixes it.

Does that speedo look familiar? This was a Yamaha 2005 concept. I'm sure it's been posted here before but It's odd enough to bring up again.

I'm sure it was just individual store policy but I remember in the '80's when they first started using the scanners in this area we used to get free items that way. I guess they were trying to convince us all that scanning was more accurate. Only once did we have a B#$@& checkout woman give us a hard time about it. It was posted that they would give you the item free if it scanned wrong and she was trying to refund us the difference. I would have been ok with that but she started out with an attitude, so...

I didn't see any garages in those pics... but I did see some nice "display cases" that I could turn into a nice garage!
-
Good luck to you! And hurry back.
-
All you need is... Tranny final gear ratio (.857) (or ratio of whatever gear you are in when you want to know the RPM.) Tire height (25.5") Final drive ratio (2.294) RPM = MPH (60) x Trans Gear Ratio (.857) x Final Drive Ratio (2.294) x 336.13 / Tire Diameter (25.5) RPM will be 1554.8646 in this example.

I started my Kumho at 42lbs and have played with it down to 32lbs but I'm happiest at 38lbs. I didn't like the feel at 32 either.

I remember a story like that but it was in Kansas. Pictures and story
