Some dealers swap out enough of the stock exhaust systems for aftermarket systems that they just trash the stock sets rather than take up space with something most people don't want. The more common term is "takeoffs".
-
As far as performance they aren't going to give you any more. It's all about sound and looks. And everyone has a different tolerance for noise. I never have cared for a lot of noise. That being said, I would say the stock mufflers on my RSV sound like a set of new glasspacks before they have settled. I wouldn't mind a little more sound. My Road Star has Bub's Big Willys and although they have a good sound they are way too loud for me. I'm thinking that I would probably like the sound of some unmodified Harley mufflers. In fact, I was at the local H-D dealer 2 weeks ago looking for gloves for my wife and I stepped to the service department to ask if they had a set of "throwaway" take off's. Sure! Only $200! : I think I'm happy with what I have.

Good by ventures

I know what you're saying, Dale. The local dealer is pretty good as far as his people greeting and at least acknowledging you but don't expect a deal by any means. The one in Hattiesburg is huge and still growing but his employees spend more time standing around and talking to each other than trying to help a customer. And definitely no deals there. I feel lucky that I can do most repairs or maintenance myself and I don't ever expect to buy another bike from a dealer, new or used. There are too many great deals out there on 2-4 year old bikes. -
That would look BAD with Apes!

The 155/80-15 is a Goodrich and it has a 2-ply sidewall that some just would rather have. And some may think it's a better quality tire. I'm happy with the Kumho. It's just whatever makes you happy. Personally I can't get past the white letters on one side of the BFG.

I just stumbled on this website and knowing that we are an "older" group of riders I thought it may be of some interest to some of the members that may be starting to have an issue pulling or holding the clutch lever. http://www.efmautoclutch.com/ It isn't inexpensive but they build two clutches; one that has NO pull pressure on the lever and one that you don't use the lever at all. And they hold much better than stock. They have a few videos on the site showing how well it works. Just thought it may help keep someone riding a few years longer!

All 2nd gen and t/d ownwers!!!
BigBoyinMS replied to eusa1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've got a groaner too but I keep putting off taking it in. I did lube every bolt on the shock mounting when I did my last driveline lube and it was quiet for months. I just noticed it groaning again a month or two ago. -
The last 4 digits of the DOT number on the sidewall are the month and year of manufacture. Example: 3407 would be the 34th week of 2007. There ya go!

And it cuts out the glare on the windshield from the fuel cap. Cut the bottom out of a standard Can Koozie and it fits tight down over the fuel cap. And you can still use it to put your can in.

Fuel injected 1st Gen...

Thanks for posting this! I've been looking for something like this for a different project. By the way... I found this while browsing around some links from that site... The one on the right is based on a VMax. http://www.roadstercycle.com/images/DSC01465.JPG -
A silly question

Yup, "paid for" is my favorite color! -
Mine has the Clearview 19" and I've never ridden with the stock one. I would say there is definitely no buffeting and I've asked the wife about buffeting on her helmet and she says she doesn't feel any. The way I sit I really need to trim it about 1.5" because I'm usually looking straight at or just slightly below the top edge. By the way, if anyone orders a Clearview... get the vent! I didn't think it made that much difference but the first cold day that I rode I closed the vent and had cold air coming around the edges and swirling right on me. When I opened the vent the cold air was gone. It's a warmer ride in cold weather with the vent open!

Oh well, it must be a local sale. My store had no clue about it. Guess I'll stick with the Rotella.
-
I like Rotella but for those kinda prices I'll be getting 6 gals of Delo for the next two changes on our 3 bikes.
-
I compared the line drawing in the pdf to their current models and it's the VStar 1300.
-
I could handle the starting bid.
-
I had some leftover 1" x 1/8" stainless from some step tubes I installed on my truck so that was one of the first things that I did after getting the bike. I did make one change. I mounted them UNDER the floorboard mounts and used a spacer between them and the brace to space it down enough to clear.
-
I've had a lot of belt driven bikes and have no problem with them but I like gears and metal too. I hope Royals stay shaft driven.

Hey, I'm all for this! I'm adding a reminder to my calendar for late February to make a new post and we can "get'er done".

I dropped by a dealer today and got into a conversation with the used bike manager. I commented that it looked like Yamaha was dropping the RSTD and replacing it with the Stratoliner Deluxe. He said that he made the same comment to the district rep and was told that it was just taking a one year break but the 'model' would be back in the 2011 model year. That much was supposedly straight from the company but the two of them were supposing the break was to totally redesign the bike, bigger FI engine, etc. and if they update the RSTD then the RSV has to be changed too. Yeah, I know. Until it actually happens... it's just rumor.

Metzeler 880 corporate irresponsibility sends me to darkside

The insurance question is a legitimate concern but many of us have asked the question of the insurance companys and in every case been told that the only thing they would look for is a DOT approved tire. A few of us have even gotten it in writing. That being said, if they wanted to they could still bring it up that it's the "wrong tire for the application". Personally, I would rather ride safer by having the best tire so I'll be keeping the Kumho. And to answer the fitment question... I don't believe that anyone has found a CT in a size to fit the 1st Gens. One more plus for having a 2nd Gen! -
I started at 42lbs and was totally happy but kept reading that the center would probably wear faster so tried 32lbs for one ride but didn't like it then up to 36lbs and it was ok but I've finally settled on 38lbs.
-
I've had similar thoughts on older VMax's... but more along a Tour Deluxe style. Yeah, I know... weird. By the way, over here dirt cheap for an '09 is like $15,000!

I got my HF lift about a year ago and, of course, didn't read the booklet. If I just touched the release it would drop like a brick. Finally someone told me that you have to stomp it all the way down to get it to lower slowly. And they were right but it still isn't REAL slow.
-
Just Harley's doing what Harley's do best... make noise! And I'm guilty of it too. MANY years ago I had a girl tell me that she could hear my Sportster for almost 3 minutes after I left her house... and I was running 65-70mph the entire time. I don't like nearly as much noise now. 'Bout decided that I don't even want the RK muffs on my RSV.
