I see exactly where Mel is coming from. The older I get, the less patience I have for these IDIOT kids that are employed in what they call "customer service". Personally, I won't email them; I would rather call and speak to someone. If I call in I start out as the nicest person that they have spoken to all day but if I get rude service or attitude then I become the worst they have had. And this has nothing to do with WHY you contact them. It's how it's handled by them.

Now for something entirely different

Yeah, I noticed that leading link. Some of the homebuilt trike guys have been building a "one off" version of it and lovin' it. -
:PURPLE: Glad to have you here!

The only negative to starting in gear is the extra torque needed to break the clutches apart and spin the extra weight. If the bike is still warm from a run then it isn't that bad. If it's cold then it can really put a load on the starter.

There is a fellow looking for one to fit his bike over at the Darksiders forum. Probably wouldn't be too big of a deal since the tires from decades ago were bias ply AND had a profile similar to todays car tires. I'm sure handling would probably be different but not "crash and burn" different.

I used to have to pass a private school to get to work. Most of the kids and parents dropping off kids would come from the opposite direction that I was going so they were turning and crossing the highway in front of me. It never failed that when the light changed that there would be another 6-8 cars continue on after their light had turned red. A few times they were unlucky enough for me to be at the head of the line to wake them up. I called the local PD a couple of times but they never did a thing about it. Knowing the reputation of the school, they either thought they were privileged enough to drive through a red light or they were just blindly following the sheep ahead of them.

I guess helmets are like tires... MC helmets only last 1/3 as long as car helmets. That sounds like the old Fram commercial... "Pay me now or pay me later." And we know what crap FRAM is. Anyway, I've been looking for a new helmet for a while but I haven't yet found one that I want to be seen in. They sure have changed since I bought my last one. They make'em out of fiberglass now! http://www.getfootballhelmets.com/images/leather-helmet.gif

I haven't replaced mine on the RSV yet but I did on my Road Star. I did a little research and found this one. The reason that I picked this particular one is two-fold... First, it filters down to 12 micron where most others that I have found are 40-80 micron. And flow is not a problem. I took the pump off of my Roadie and am gravity feed only and it provides all the fuel that it needs. Secondly, it was less than $5. EDIT: LoL I just checked and the 33011 WIX is the NAPA 3011. Sounds like the way to go!

Just in case someone is interested... here is the latest email (and pics) I got from Mustang. Looks good but also looks like they may take away some butt room and raise you up. ******** Venture Owners, We have an update for you on the progress we have made with the new Mustang seats for the Yamaha Venture. Seat styles have been set, along with pricing. A couple of pictures have been attached showing the first prototype seat on the bike. We can send more pictures upon request, but please be aware that they are large (2MB). Mustang will be making four separate, one-piece, two-person touring seats for the Venture. The seats will all be in the Regal or "pillow" style. They will be available with or without chrome studs, and with or without the built-in driver backrest. We have tried to keep the driver's seating position as close to stock as possible, but our firmer seat foam will result in a slightly higher seat height for both driver and passenger, as you will not sink into the seat like you do on the stock seat. Seats are not yet in production, but will be soon. We cannot take pre-orders yet. As soon as production begins, you will be notified so you can pre-order and get into the waiting line. Wait time will be from two to three weeks once production starts. Prices are as follows: Regal touring seat, no studs, $469.00 Regal touring seat, studded, $499.00 Regal touring seat with built-in driver backrest, no studs, $669.00 Regal touring seat with built-in driver backrest, studded, $699.00 Look over the attached pictures and let me know if you want more. Thanks again for your interest in our products. Ike Customer Service http://www.daraq.com/images/RSV_MustangSeat2.jpg http://www.daraq.com/images/RSV_MustangSeat1.jpg

Great post!

Ditto x 3. I am so much more confident with my Kumho on the back over ANY motorcycle tire. I hope you end up being as happy with it as I am. I usually don't even think about it but then something happens to remind me how happy I am that it's there. I even have reason to consider it a safety upgrade.

Ditto on what Gary N said... The only negative for me, and this may be normal to ALL headsets, the mike picks up and amplifies all the bike noises.

I had emailed Mustang some months ago to ask about a seat for our 2nd Gen RSV's. What I got back had a tone to it of "we don't offer it and don't want to so don't bother us". Today I got the following email from them... "Venture Owners, Mustang management has decided to offer replacement seats for the Yamaha Venture to answer the demands of our customers. The decision was made only a short time ago, and only one prototype seat has been tried so far. We are still refining the seat and hope to start production before Summer 2010. There will be four separate seats offered. All will be two-person, one-piece seats. Two with chrome studs, two plain, two with built-in driver backrests and two without. We are not yet making seats and are not taking advanced orders for Venture seats. You have received this message because you have asked about Venture seats in the past. You will continue to receive periodic updates from this office whenever new information becomes available. We are not attaching any pictures of the one prototype seat at this time because that design is being changed. As soon as any pictures are made available, you will receive them. Thanks for your interest in our products and for your patience as we develop a comfortable touring seat for your bike. Ike Customer Service"

My opinion... mix'em up if you want. How much more mixed can you get than a Darkside setup? And I've never had a handling issue. Just the opposite.

This is weird ...Did sync on the carbs and guess what I found

An insult, instead of an explanation of why you disagree, shows more ignorance... in MY opinion. -
Finally got around to checking the Slime dial gauge and my H-D (Progressive) pump gauge. Both checked out in line with the Accutire.
-
I'll be sure and check the other gauges and post the results. It's got the 90 degree chuck just for bikes. I was afraid that I was going to break off a valve stem with the 45 degree end on the Slime gauge. Accutire MS-4710B Motorcycle 5-99 PSI Digital Tire Gauge from Amazon.com for about $12. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31yUr0fLSHL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

I finally checked the Accutire gauge against the calibrated one and it's between 1/4 and 1/2 lb high... which I'm happy with. Now I just need to verify my Slime dial gauge and the Progressive pump gauge. SilvrT, I went back and read the post you started... a lot of good info but my eyes glazed over after a bit. In the end, I verify the calibration at or near the pressure that I measure usually and at a low reading; if they are close enough then I'm good!

The recommended tire on the Delphi Darksiders forum is the Pirelli MT66. And whenever I need a new front I'll probably go with that... but for the time being I have the correct front ME880 on the front and it's been great. The biggest thing is correct tire pressure, no matter what tire you use. If my experiences are any indicator then most gauges are not correct. That could be part of the wobble issue some have reported.

Darker than the Dark side?
BigBoyinMS replied to MikesBike's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
One more thought on this... Using the formula I figure a carb in the 180 cfm range would be right for the Venture with it's high rpm range. Again, using the formula, around a 140 cfm would be right on a lower rpm Road Star. The Roadie uses a single 40mm Mikuni. Why not a single 45mm Mikuni (too small, do they make a 50mm?) using that same sheet metal manifold and a tube coming up from the center then out the side to attach the carb to; just like the Roadie setup? Could probably keep stock cables even; maybe different length. -
Yes, it's gotten pretty stupid some of the things they do. Someone spilled 2 ozs of mercury on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi a few months ago. The first reports made it sound like someone emptied a tanker truck of the stuff! They shut down part of the campus and called emergency management in to "assess the spill". Huge news in the local paper and TV for a day or two. Years ago I read a National Geographic story on mercury production in Africa. Many of the guys that worked in the mines would absorb so much of it that they would send them to special 'hot rooms' and they would sweat it out of their bodies.

A few maintenance questions
BigBoyinMS replied to Karl C.'s topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Rotella, along with motorcycle specific Mobil 1 and Amsoil, has one of the highest amounts of Zinc which is great for our bikes and any NON catalytic vehicle. It's just best to not use it in any catalytic vehicle in case any oil gets by the rings.
