Help - Grease for Spline
BigBoyinMS replied to JCB's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That is actually copied directly from the Moly-60 MSDS from the Honda/Acura "dealer access only" website. If you'll look at the post again I explain that the 60 in Moly-60 comes from it's percentage of the ingredients less the grease that carries it. The MSDS shows the ingredients by weight. I would be happy to post the link but like I said it's on the dealer only website. -
Help - Grease for Spline

This may help. I copied this from a post I made in April of last year... "Just info for those that want to know... In previous post some have mentioned Lithium grease instead of Moly for the driveline lube. I was browsing around the Honda Interactive Network this morning and pulled up the MSDS for the Moly-60. Here is a pic of the actual ingredients list... http://i720.photobucket.com/albums/ww202/BigBoyinMS/MOLY60MSDS.jpg It has Lithium in it and there is almost 1/2 as much Lithium as Moly. And a little bit of 2 secret ingredients. And the reason the percentages don't add up is they only count the actual working ingredients, not the grease that's the carrier for them . (It's 15-20% of Moly by weight but about 60% of the 4 main ingredients) Edit: FYI, the company that provides Moly-60 to Honda is ThreeBond." -
I sure hope your tools are there when you get to the lot. Many, MANY years ago my Dad was in a bad accident driving a station wagon with the back full of tools. When we got to the lot nothing was in the car and no one knew a thing. The local LEO's were worse than useless and probably related to everyone there. Good luck and just be glad you made it home that day.

Help - Grease for Spline
BigBoyinMS replied to JCB's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
+1 on all of the above. And I find the best place to keep the brush is in the cap of the grease tube. Make a hole just big enough to push the brush handle through from the inside. -
A few more points and I'm done with this thread. After thinking about it, I think that from now on my only reply to those considering a CT or asking advice will be to advise them to ask those giving that advice what their actual experience on a CT is and to ignore those that have none. And I'll be taking my own advice after this since it's really dumb of me to argue with those that can only say "I read" or "I heard" or "I think" and not "I did". I did see where Goose says he has ridden a bike with a CT but a trip around the block really doesn't count... or was it at least a 100 mile trip or longer? I doubt it. "CT's run 20% over max inflation". Misinformation The only Darksiders that I have ever heard of that run above the max inflated pressure are those that are trying to correct the wobble instead of fix the problem. My Kumho is at 38lbs and the rated max is 41lbs. ..."that's why car tires have less grip". Misinformation Find someone that has actually put some miles on both m/c tires a CT's and ask which tire has more traction. I doubt you will find any that will say the m/c tire. I know the Kumho on my bike has better traction than a m/c tire. As for my saying "better handling"... I consider better traction in all situations (stopping, starting and turning; in the rain or dry) better handling and I've never had a wobble at any speed. I would feel like I was lying if I only said "handles as good as". (By the way, there are enough Darksiders out there scraping pegs if you want to look for them on KillBoy.com. I'm not into that and I definitely don't accept childish "I dare ya's".) And lastly, I consider it really strange thinking when someone thinks that a better product at a lower cost is a bad thing. I also have a Road Star. If it makes you feel any better, I'll be paying as much to get a CT for it as I would for a m/c tire when the Avon wears out. But I still consider it less expensive considering all of the other benefits including extended tire life. As I said, I'm done with this thread but at least those reading will get to see all the misinformation rebutted.

Again, if piss is experience then y'all are dry. It's amazing how many can speak on something they know nothing about. Almost like me saying Dunlop E3's are crap because I heard of one person having a blowout and crash within 60 miles of having a new one installed.
-
And you have the experience to know the handling isn't better? Until you do, where's your credibility?
-
I really like a leading link. Supposed to be the best handling fork type for a bike. (Or trike) And that has to be the most "in your face" bike on the road. I like it! You would really weird people out if you had tucked the front wheel right up under the neck.

Well, the Supreme Court has ruled against the gun grabbers today. Maybe we can get them to rule the same way against Goose and the other tire grabbers! Can't we all just get along? As a wise man once said, "There ya go again!" Goose, I got all the respect in the world for you and I know you have alllll kinds of experience, but you need to give up your anti-CT crusade! Bikers have been riding on car tires for decades and decades and we will continue to do so. If you want to give info to those asking questions about motorcycle tires, then that's great. But when you expound on all of your years and years and miles and miles of experience (all on m/c tires) and then say that based on that experience (all on m/c tires), in your opinion, CT's are BAAAADDDD... well, in that case it's just an irrational dislike for something that you admittedly know nothing about. The majority of us have no problems with handling, wobbles or anything else so doesn't it make sense that there is a problem with the particular tire or with the particular bike it's installed on? It seems that we only agree on one thing on this issue... if a bike has the wobble then it needs to be fixed. And I'll always take lower cost, longer tread life, better handling, better traction and higher load limit. And I'll say it every time... I consider it a safety item on my bike because of those features. And that's my experienced opinion...

My first 2-wheeler was almost a Cushman (Pacemaker model, I think?). One of my earliest memories was me and my brother riding in the trunk area of it as my dad rode us up to my grandparents house. After he died it laid against the shop for years when one day when I was about 14 I got the idea of fixing it up so I could have a way to get round. I got home that day and the first thing I see is the Cushman looking like swiss cheese. My brother had decided to use it for target practice that day.

Oil Filter cross reference
BigBoyinMS replied to Hummingbird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I was browsing through a local salvage store and lucked up on 6 Super-tech 7317 oil filters. I think I got them for about $3. And they are better quality filters than many of the better known brands. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=371 -
More like 30,000... rpm.

Hey Sleepy, Get over to the RoadStarClinic.com and tell the guys what happened. A lot of the guys swap their front pulley out for better lowend performance and a few will swap out the rear pulley for a custom look so someone will have spares laying around. As far as how tight, the rule of thumb is you should only be able to twist the belt about 1/4 turn on the bottom loop. They have a lot of good tech articles there too. One in particular on just this subject.

FYI, FRAM is a Honeywell company. Sounds like they are trying to give their own product some legitimacy.

You haven't bought it yet? I would say it's a good price. You couldn't come close to duplicating it for that price if you bought an '07 RSV and took it to Hannigan.

That happens to mine a lot because of power line interference. You should notice that you are passing under overhead power lines or cables when you hear the static.

165/80R15 is the stock tire size on the old '60's - '70's VW Bugs. And a few older European cars.

Although I did mean to get the points across that I did, I didn't mean them to sound so harsh. That's what happens when I post early in the morning just before having to rush to get ready for work. I'm really just a Teddy Bear.

As you are against car tires then I'm sure you haven't done the research to see the proof that you have more contact in a corner with a car tire and you definitely don't have any experience to be able to speak about it. After doing the research AND actually running a CT, it's MY opinion that it's a safety feature just like my headlight modulator, extra rear lighting and louder horn. It grips better for braking, cornering and acceleration along with having a higher load rating. And, believe it or not, the tires on the front of ALL cars do lean in a turn (camber) and they are also subjected to much more lateral force from a car that weighs 2000-5000 lbs.

Stratoliner, Cross Country or Rocket III Touring. I would even consider a Vision.

As Foghorn says, "Lookit here son, I say son, did ya see that hawk after those hens? He scared 'em! That Rhode Island Red turned white. Then blue. Rhode Island. Red, white, and blue. That's a joke, son. A flag waver. You're built too low. The fast ones go over your head. Ya got a hole in your glove. I keep pitchin' 'em and you keep missin' 'em. Ya gotta keep your eye on the ball. Eye. Ball. I almost had a gag, son. Joke, that is."

Someone just mentioned that about 20 dead sea turtles have already washed up on shore.

My regret is that I didn't buy a $1000 of it when they went public in '87. Actually wanted to but had no clue how back then.
