  1. Amen To That! ! !
  2. :bang head:Only thing better would have been a 1st Gen Bike. Seriously though, you have a BEAUTIFUL ride! ! ! What shade of blue?
  3. First and foremost, I park where the bike will be safe. When at Walmart, Lowes, etc, I park on a concrete area, as far away from where people are likely to be so as not to block anything important. At work, I have permission from those in charge to park in the loading dock area, on concrete. I do feel guilty about not parking around cages and such, but I would feel even worse should it fall over onto one or even worse, onto a person. Yes, I have a kickstand plate to keep it from sinking into hot asphalt, but I've had it sink a bit once, and that was only after 10 minutes in the store.
  4. Makes you very proud to be an American! Just wish everyone would show that kind of pride in their work!
  5. I'll never go to the dark side! NEVER! ! !
  6. I have several of them actually. One on my car keys, truck keys, and motorcycle keys. They come in handy when you need a flat or phillips screwdriver and dont happen to have the 'right' tool at hand. I'll never get rid of mine.
  7. For those baby boomers around here, take a look at this! http://www.newsday.com/news/opinion/ny-walt-babyboomers-blurb,0,1036393.blurb
  8. :no-no-no:This is a very good reason not to allow the kids to put their stuffed animals on the rear deck of your car. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RbUKU1rCaE]YouTube - blaupunkt [/ame] :rotf::rotf:
  9. That just about says it all.
  10. Has anyone ever purchased air deflectors for their rides from this dealer? I've been looking at them for my 88 VR and was wondering if the prices are resonable. Check the link out and see what you think. http://www.bakerbuilt.com/yamaha.htm
  11. . . . To A Tall Indian. :snow:Can't believe the sudden change in weather. This time last week I was riding around Dayton looking at a few houses and enjoying the bike for the first time this year. Just 7 days later, we are buried in all this white stuff. :snow:News has reported in excess of 600 fender benders of various servarity and even had I-70 shut down for a few hours Friday night due to a 4-wheeler and 18-wheeler mixing it up and dragging 3 or 4 more 18-wheelers into the arguement. No idea who started it, but I would have to guess the 4-wheeler. :snow:Went out today for the first time to dig out the vehicle and see what is still buried. Not bad at all. Hope everyone else is doing well and not buried in one way or another. Ride hard, but keep it safe.
  12. Local weatherman finally forcasted a good day, that actually turned out right. Normally they are only 40% correct, 60% of the time. After reading the real estate section of the Sunday paper, decided to ride out to a few homes to do some looking. Got a couple of comments about a great day for riding. I do have one question. The bike has been in the storage garage for the last few months on the center stand. I rocked it a few times to get it down onto the wheels. When I backed it out, there was a small (6") puddle of anti-freeze on the floor. I checked the radiator, which was full, as well as pulled all the plastic off and check the hoses, piping, and all of the radiator that I could get to. I could find no leaks. When I fired up the bike and let it idle, I could see nothing was leaking. Any ideas where the puddle came from? ? ? Today is supposed to hit 60, so it sounds like more riding.
  13. If you can get a 10 year rule, consider yourself fortunate. No one here in Dayton will work on it after 5 - 7 years old. We have 2 seperate Yamaha dealers in Dayton and one only goes out to 7 years with the second going out only to 5 years. I have been fortunate to find a couple of great mechanics that will work only on older bikes, 10 or more years older. Only problem is they are over an hour away, one north and the other east. Both have a month or more waiting period for just about any kind of work.
  14. I like the jet propelled bike. But I have to wonder how well the brakes work if you have to hit them in a hurry?
  15. My version of retired is simple: I get up when I want to, if I want to; I do what I want to during the day, if I want to; I go to bed when I want to, if I want to. Anything else is just too much work.
  16. :rasberry:I finally got them all with a score of 1219.
  17. I was onboard the USS O'Bannon (DD-987) and we had to leave port because of Hurricane Hugo. We had the squadron commander onboard and he insisted on all the ships remaining in formation. After three days, we began cleaning up and were finding foot prints about 3 - 4 feet up on the bulk heads. One of our inclinometers froze at 59 degrees. One of the gunners mates said we took water in the forward 5" around the base. A trip I'll never forget.
  18. My first car was a 69 Ford Falcon and cost me $400 in 1979. A little paint, a lot of rust and some bondo. She is now sitting just off the coast of Great Lakes, Illinois in Lake Michigan.
  19. In September I won a bid on a Scottish Claymore carbon steel sword from a business called Sussen. Paid within minutes of winning the bid and began a long waiting session for the item to arrive. After a week of not hearing anything, I emailed them asking for a shipping status. A few days later I asked again for a shipping status. A few days after this I again asked for a shipping status, only this time I threatened to file a claim against them. Heard back from them that they were out of stock on that particular sword and would either refund the money or send it to me if I wanted to wait, so I waited. The following day I received email from them saying the sword was in and would be shipped the following day. Two more weeks went by and nothing was seen. So I emailed them again asking for a shipping status. Two days later I emailed them again asking for a shipping status and reminded them that I was still capable of filing a claim against them. Two days later I filed the claim with e-bay and after not hearing anything from them I completed the claim with PayPay. PayPal asked how I wanted to proceed, refund or the sword. Again I chose the sword. Sussen chose instead to refund the money. I filed negative feedback for the company as stongly as possible with only 80 characters. Now I've received email from a mediation company, hired by Sussen, to get me to recind my negative feedback, saying they did everything they could in good faith to make me happy. Don't know how many out there look at swords, but if you should, STAY CLEAR of any company with Sussen in the name.
  20. Signed it and also posted as a member of VentureRider.org.
  21. Thanks for the warning. I looked my number up and it was correct right down to the front door. Were I single, I would not mind, but I am a single parent for the moment and want to protect my son as much as possible. Thanks for the warning!!! John
  22. Went by the handle of Star Rider in the 70's and the license KFR-4512. I had a 23 channel Midland and 100W kicker. Truckers talked on channel 10 and there were REACT stations all over the US to help folks with phone calls for an emergency. I still carry a 40 channel in my truck and the bike and still go by Star Rider.
  23. The truck driver should not have been doing 85 either for that matter. I realize they have to move to make money and get the goods they are delivering to their destination, but I have to get to work every day just like everyone else. This does not give me the right to haul-it down the road.
  24. 8.3 amps is assuming 100% efficiency. Most amplifiers are between 25 - 78 % efficient so your amperage would more likely be between 10.5 - 33 amps. Add to that number the initial surge when you turn it on, and that could be all the way up to 50 - 75 amps. If memory serves correctly (one of the few times), I think our stators only put out around 130 - 140 amps. Feel free to jump in a correct me on this. This if from an engineering/technicians point of view.
  25. It will stop raining when it starts . Enjoy and ride in the for as long as you can!
