Wishing everyone south of the bourder a Happy Thanksgiving!
-
We just finished our Helo Crash FF refresher training. Here are a few pics from the course. The first from the control tower, the second one is me, and the last one is everyone of course. Those of us in the back row could feel our hair curling from the heat.

I just have to say, we've already had our turkey. Although I was at sea and missed it. He cooks onboard attempted to make a thanksgiving dinner, but didn't succeed.

It looks good. I like the C/F wrap. I also think that the orange paint looks best.

Evan, You idea about nail polish made me think of this. Try one of the colormatch paint pens from Duplicolor. They are available at Canadian Tire, and available in almost every colour. They have a brush on one end and a pen on the other. Not very expensive either. Bill

Biker's Last Ride

Cool hearse, nice pics -
My polished pieces are on.

I took the bike out for short ride this morning, and no overheating problems. Life is better now. I have a month to ride it before I'm out to sea again. We're headed to San Francisco for fleet week. Oh. Yes, the pictures are on my phone so will add them later. It's now later! -
I finally finished installing all the crankcase covers. The dealer ordered the wrong gaskets. I don't understand how, when they have a picture right in front of them, and I pointed out the gaskets I needed. I topped off the fluids and went for a ride. The Temp gauge wouldn't quit climbing. Well, long story short, Rocket to the rescue. I now know there is a by-pass valve to assist in bleeding off any air in the system. I will continue to monitor this with short rides until there is overheating issues. Thanks Rocket! :happy34:

Pictures as promised
Oldseadog replied to Oldseadog's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I originally started this project to fill in my off time while at sea. I had thought of a professional polisher, but only after I started this. It is more work than I thought. Is it costly to have these polished? I hadn't thought about clear coating them, other than with clear lacquer, but then it was mentioned that I could get them clear powder coated. I wonder what that costs? For now, I will finish these up, and hit them with clear lacquer. In the future I may take them in and have them professionally polished. -
As you can see in the pictures, I have one more cover to polish. All the covers started out looking like the stator cover. The other covers I started with 220 grit sandpaper, and worked my way up to 800 grit before switching to polishing compounds. The third image is of the stator cover after using paint stripper to remove the old finish. With this one I'm thinking of just using Black Emery polishing compound to clean up the ugly spots first then work on the whole case, working my way up to Red Rouge. I tried this on a couple of spots in the last two pics. I'm using a Dremel Tool with wool polishing wheels. Bill

Oh, what have I done
Oldseadog replied to Oldseadog's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes, I'll have to do that. It didn't happen if there are no pictures. -
Oh, what have I done

Well, I won. I found my impact driver, in a box of tools from my dad. I am sooo organized! I removed the wire sets and cleaned the case with brake cleaner. I'm going to let it dry overnight and tomorrow start work on polishing the last piece. (for now) Thanks again for all the advice. Bill -

Thanks for the quick replies. I will follow the wires and disconnect them. After doing some more research, I now know it is the generator cover, and the screws are holding in the pick-up assembly. Bill -
It all started innocently enough. The aluminum crank case covers look bad, so I removed them to polish them up, while I was at sea. I removed the water pump cover, clutch cover, plus the small rear one on the left side (transmission?). I couldn’t get the large front one (stator?) off at the time. While I was waiting for the gaskets to come in, I worked on the large cover. When I finally removed it a small gear fell out. I was able to put it back, hope it isn’t supposed to be in a certain way. I went to remove the screws holding the wires to the cover but no luck. I have the right size screwdriver, but they won’t move. I stopped before I stripped the heads, but I think it won’t take much force before they are striped. What is the easiest way to get these screws out? I can’t get the cover to my workbench, as it is still attached to the bike by the wires. It is free to move around as I try to break the screws free. I tried hammering on the screwdriver while twisting, but was getting nowhere. Help I don't know where to go from here. Bill

Prayer Request for Condor
Oldseadog replied to Lone Eagle's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
My thoughts and prayers are with you, and your family, during this time. May Nadine rest in peace. -
I hear you brother! In BC, it is also a gov't monopoly. I'm not sure of the exact amount but it is over $1200 per year.

Congratulation on the new ride! I also like the Victory bikes. I was told that a dealer is opening up in our area soon, just don't know when. I will have to take a test ride for sure.

I was wondring if anyone has looked into or even tried one of these batteries. I was talking to someone today and their son bought one. He was saying we can't get them in Canada. From what I've read they seem like a god idea. http://sepbatteries.com/super-b-2600-lithium-battery

We have been a Jeep family since '91. I broke my '88 YJ, which is still in the back yard. I'm hoping to rebuilding it. Leslie has a '08 Grand Cherokee with the V6 diesel. it is the best Jeep we've ever had!
-
I hope you have a great trip. My buddy Don and I, along with our wives, are planning a trip to Napa as well, around the 21st of May. Our wives are taking the train, as Leslie is too nervous to ride any long distances.

I think flames and pinstrips go good together. They've doing it for years on all sorts of hot rods.

Clock runs too fast
Oldseadog replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This has definitely been an interesting thread for me, as my '84 has had this problem all along. It even happened after I changed out the old battery. There must be a power draw somewhere. I'm going to have to start checking this out. Now, if they would just quite sending me to sea.
