  1. I am looking to replace the coolant hoses on my '84. I know only a couple are available, the rest I need to search and find hoses that are close, or make my own. I noticed on EBay, I can buy silicone hose sets for a VMax. I was wondering, would the hoses from a VMax would be compatible with my Venture?
  2. I have just been posted into the sheet metal fab shop in the Dockyard, and they send lots of aluminum to the powder coaters. I'm told it should be bead blasted first, so the powder coating sticks better.
  3. Have you thought about Powdercoating?
  4. Thanks Mechanic1. I'll be looking at the hoses soon.
  5. What great timing for this post. I developed a coolant leak on the way home from the Venture West Rally. We tightened the clamp, and slowed it to a small drip, which quit when the engine heated up. I have been thinking about changing the hoses ever since. How long did you boiled the hoses for to form them?
  6. The trunk has the look of a 1st gen, the side bags don't have the sculpting for the signal lights, the fairing looks to be Windjammer unit. I think it may have been a dealer optioned bike, or a competitor the small 500cc Honda Goldwing. I'm just guessing here.
  7. Because they keep running, we just can't monitor stuff for a bit.
  8. Problem fixed for now. The signal fuse was loose because the U clips were not holding properly. I squeezed them together to make better contact, now all is good. Definitely doing the fuse block upgrade when I get home!
  9. I am going to do the fuse upgrade when I get home! Hoping I can get this problem bandaided until i get home.
  10. Ok, I'm on my way to Venture West, and after a short ferry ride I start my '84 VR and the only thing on the dash that works is the Speedo. We pull over check things over, find a fuse loose, tighten the clamp springs and it's working. Yeah. Down at the road a ways pull over for a rest, restart and no dash again. Play with the fuse, nothing. Make the choice to carry on, hit a small dip and the dash lights up as if I just turned the key on. It goes through the checks, and everything is good. Next stop same thing. Now I'm hoping a nights rest will bring it back to life, but I'm also hoping someone on here has an idea what may be wrong and what I need to check.
  11. Judging from the stash, I would say reddish brown
  12. I just came across these videos, and was going to post them but when I typed in the title, I see I was beaten to it. I did a search before trying to post, and found nothing until typing in the title. Some good information, I hope they get put into the tech pages. Make it easier to find the information.
  13. Happy New Years to all the VR family and friends!!!
  14. Good Luck! I do like the looks of the Road Glide.
  15. I would pick option "B". Vertical on the body line.
  16. I usually take 45 minutes to 1 hour getting to work. Getting home is longer, 1 hour + due to traffic. Construction on the highway really slows the commute. With only 1 highway, or road for that mater, to get up island I'm going home at walking speed some days. Last Friday left work at 4 pm, stopped for dinner in Victoria, and still fought traffic to get home by 10 pm.
  17. For fastening, what about countersunk, self drilling & taping screws? I've used these to redeck semi flatbed trailers. A lot faster than driling and bolting. Just chuck a square drive bit in the drill and have at it. The ones I used were either a 1/4" or a 5/16 shank. I think they are available at Home Depot, but any place that specializes in fasteners would have it.
  18. I agree also, these grips were the first accessory that I added to my '84.
  19. That sure is a catchy tune, eh!
  20. Congrats on the job offer, I'm sure you will make right choice, and best of luck on your new endevour.
  21. Happy new year to you and yours. May god continue to guide you throughout the coming year.
  22. Merry Christmas to you and to everyone here. May the following year bring health and happiness to all! Bill
  23. Where to begin. During the 80's when I was a civilian I always was laid off the end of November, so I found Christmas depressing. A couple of years ago I convinced my wife we should do something completely diferent. I made all the arrangements, and we spent Christmas in Hawaii. The girl still talk about it, and Leslie said it was the best Christmas we have had in the 20 some odd years of marriage. We keep talking about doing it again, but we haven't.
  24. Sad to hear of your accident, but glad you're OK. I hope you heal soon.
