I’m glad I’m getting different opinions, gives me something to think about until I get home I hate to waste my money, though I’ve done it on MANY numerous occasions, I’m just nervous about buying off eBay. I know a lot of people do it, but it makes me nervous. What if what I’m buying is someone else’s junk. The radio that is in the bike has an intercom but no CB. The PO and I have not been able to find any connections though. I don’t see how a new unit will mount in there. Is there a mounting plate one can buy or do I have to make one? I can do some fabrication, so that isn’t a problem. I can get some thin aluminum plate to cover the opening and put a newer unit underneath, with maybe some jacks for an Ipod or something. I suppose by putting a plate in there I would have a place to mount some auxiliary switches and such. Thanks again and I look forwaard to everyones comments Bill

Thanks for all the replies Muffinman, when I come ashore in a couple of weeks I will be checking the two red wires as you've suggested. I wonder if it could be just a connection between the rectangular plugs and the radio. I like the idea of hooking an MP3 player/Ipod to the radio. I will search for the wiring diagram. I never thought about the CD unit skipping, makes sense though. Has anyone hooked satellite radio to their bike?

Hi all, I've been sculling about around here for a few months now and I have learned quite a lot about my bike. So now I have a question about my 84 VR. When I first bought it, the radio powered up but as there was no antenna I couldn't get any stations. The other day I finally replaced the antenna and now the radio will not even power up. I've checked the fuses and didn't see any blown ones. I haven't yet checked for power to the unit, don’t really know where to start. But seeing as the radio/cassette isn't working, would now be a good time to change it out to a more modern unit, one with a CD player? If so, what would you replace it with? Would a marine unit be a good choice? If I can get the old one working, does anybody know where I can get a new plastic cover for the cassette? I broke the corner off, trying to remove it one day. I then lost the piece before I could glue it back together. Thanks for all your help. I really enjoy visiting this place, and hope one day to be able to get to a rally, and meet a few of you. Bill

Center Stand Help
Oldseadog replied to pilothawk's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
# 5 YOU GOTTA put some ARSE behind it!!!!!-----and make some male gutteral sound-- That's the only way I can get my 84 up, that and making sure the ground is solid. I have a gravel driveway and I can't get it up. Not even with a board under it. -
My prayers are going out for BigBob. I hope he has a speedy recouvery.

I have used the Perma Poxy plastic weld to put the tabs back on the side covers of my '84. I've also used it to fix the chin spoiler on my daughters little Mazda. With the chin spoiler I added some of the Waterweld on the ends to reinforce the repair. The putty grips the plastic really well and cures hard. I'm hoping it hold up, I guess we'll find out the next time she parks and catches the spoiler on the curb.

I just saw this thread, and as I'm just about to do and oil change I thought I would ask you opinion on the use of Royal Purple. Has anyone used it? Is the claims of more horsepower just a gimic? Is it worth looking into?

I’ve been reading a lot about Progressive suspension and how good they are. Do they really make that much of a difference, and do I need them? I have done a search on this forum and can’t really find an answer. How do I tell if I need new springs, and I guess this would be the time to upgrade if required? Having only owned my VR for a few months it is hard to tell. I think my bike rides very nice, although I have nothing to compare it to. I’m hoping you can help enlighten me. I'm looking forward to any and all feedback on this topic.

If you are looking for old school hot rod type pinstriping try these guys http://www.winnersmotorcyclegraphics.com They have a choice of colors and styles. It seems they cater to the Harley rider. They also offer styles for the Goldwing, so I'm sure with a little thought you could make it work on other bikes as well:080402gudl_prv:.

Anyone ever take the motorcycle safety course
Oldseadog replied to Mariner Fan's topic in Watering Hole
I agree. The course was intense, but after a 20+ year gap in riding I thought it would be the best route to go. I also needed to pass the course in order to be issed a parking pass on military property. We used Honda 125Ts. Boy did my bike feel big when I was finished. Made me feel good though when as the third person to take the final exam I was the first to pass. I was the oldest on the course too.- 31 replies

Hi I'm new here, and I have a question about replacing the antenna on my 84 VR. I posted this question in a different area, but now I think I should post in the Tech area.Do I need a special antenna for the radio, or will a generic one work? I don't have a CB. If I were to get a CB where would I mount it? Thanks
