  1. As a serving member of the Canadian military, I take the time to reflect on the sacrifices of all personnel from both countries. I think of my uncles, and grandparents who served and scarified so much in both wars and all armed conflicts, so that we can enjoy our way life. I myself originally signed up in ’77 then after a few years outside military service reenlisted. It is a lifestyle that suits me and I’m going to miss it when I have to retire. I am proud of the 20+ years I’ve put in and I’m staying until they kick me out. :canada:
  2. I've been thinking the last couple of days, there might be room in the stable for a younger brother and put collector plates on the 1st gen. This way I can keep riding the '84 and a newer model for longer trips. I think I'm getting hooked on Ventures.
  3. I would like to send out a huge thank you to Rod. I’m glad that you were able to take the time and show me some of the country around San Diego. I really enjoyed the ride and meeting Blackjack. I also want to thank Rose. Together they made this old sailor feel quite welcome. Oh yes, thanks to Rod I know what I will be replacing my 1st gen. with, someday. (soon?)
  4. A1971 Yamaha 80 I think. I used to keep two sparkplugs in it because filings would foul the plug and it would quite on me. Found out later, the piston was in backwards. I didn't do it, bought it from the dealer that way. This was followed by a '72 suzuki 500, then a large gap and now my '84 VR. We will see what 2010 holds for the Venture line. I like the 2nd Gens.
  5. Hi everyone, I will be alongside in San Diege on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We will be tied up at Broadway Pier. I would like to meet with a few of my fellow ventureriders. I'm up for coffee or a beaverage(s) of your choice. I can even arraange for a ship's tour if anyone is interested. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. PM me if you want to get together.
  6. Kevin, I'm not going overseas, just going south. Where it is sunnier.
  7. This Saturday, HD is bringing their Test Our Metal tour to the base here in Victoria, for the CF members and their families. I may never buy one, but I'm signing up to test ride a couple. I'm sure glad this happens a couple of days before I have to sail again. This will be my last trip before Christmas and I have a feeling it may be the last ride of the season also. It gets a little frosty outside of Victoria. Cheers
  8. Took the gas flap to a paint and body shop. They said the same, it is incompatible paints. Kevin, do you know if the OEM paint is enamel or Lacquer? Duplicolor is a lacquer paint. I was hoping to just do a quick touch up with a spray can as I don't have a compressor and painting equipment. The body shop said I should have the piece and the can of paint warmed up with a hair dryer or something and this might help in stopping the problem as the lacquer will evaporate quicker. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
  9. Thanks everyone, I thought it might be incompatibility between paints. I was hoping to not remove all the old paint but I guess that won't be the case now. Is there a sealer I can put over the old paint prior to priming?
  10. This weekend I tried to repaint the gas flap because it was badly faded. I prepped the flap with a scuff pad and wiped it down with a tack cloth. As soon as I started spraying, the paint blistered as if I had put paint remover on it. I let the paint dry and sanded it smooth, then tried it again. It did it again. I'm stumped. The paint I was using is Dupli color. I was hoping if this small paint job worked out I would do one panel at a time, until I had the whole bike painted. Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this? Do you think it is just a reaction between the old and the new paint? I wish I could provide pictures, but the camera is broken. Bill
  11. Happy Thanksgiving to all, from the Wet Coast
  12. A V-strom, it was a fun test. Didn't care for the results.
  13. Do batteries just quite. Today I came home from work, shut off the bike and went into the house to pick up something and when I returned the bike wouldn't even turn over. I put my trickle charger on it for few hours and it started right away. I phoned around for a new one and got a price of $150, but they were out of stock. The Harley boys bought them all. They are going to call me tomorrow with a price for a Odessy. I only have a short time left of the riding season, I was hoping to have the battery last.
  14. I like DLBCAL's idea also, and July 31 - Aug 2 sounds real good too. I'm going to try really hard to make this my first rally.
  15. A little off topic, but along the same vein. Has anyone every use a product called Dyna-Balls. I understand they are supposed to balance the tires as you drive. I saw an ad for this product in a magazine just a while ago.
  16. I haven't been in Alberta in years, and never on a bike, so. What is the area around Rocky Mountain House like? If I remember right there are several campgrounds close by as well as some nice mountain roads. Just tossing in my thoughts.
  17. I'm all for this. Count me in, in pencil. I can make more concrete plans after April 1st. Looking forward to this :happy34:
  18. Rocket, thanks, I'll check Home Hardware out this weekend when I get home. I have a couple of small cracks on my fairing. Must have fallen over on one of the POs.
  19. Hey Rocket, Plastex is available in Canada, and I should be able to order it through them? I have to check this out.
  20. Thanks I''ll keep looking
  21. I'm looking for a set of passenger floor boards.
  22. A problem with the warnig light and side stand indicator happened to me the last time I rode. I was on the highway and suddenly the light and indicator came on. I pulled over but nothing was wrong. I couldn’t see where the stand was loose or anything. I put it on the side stand then took it off the light went out so I started out again. I got to about 60/70 kph and they lit up again, as I slowed down they went out at about 40 kph. After stopping again, putting the stand down then back up they didn’t come on all the way home. I wonder if it was a sticky switch, and is a lube I can spray on it to free it up.
  23. Me thinkis I needs new glasses!!
  24. I'm not sure why but I've read in the service and the owner's manuals that you are to charge the front first, and it has to be on the center stand. After reading this thread I have to check mine when I get home. It reads 0-0 and there are no error codes. I've tried putting it in manual but nothing happens. It does click when I turn the key to Acc.
  25. I was just wondering if you are going to start a Aussie list. I know it is early but as the last on the Canadian list (for now) and more than willing to ship to the land down under it would be nice to know who to ship to. Is it that we are waiting to find out if their equipment is comatable with our DVDs?
