Could you ellaborate a little more of the differences in the ride with the Works shock compared to the OEM? I don't have any issues yet but am always looking for a good upgrade. Thanks...

best tire recommendation
V-4 Vendetta replied to kingtut's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I just found out the Michelin's had been discontinued as well. And just when I needed a new back tire after over 13,000 trouble-free miles on my existing Commander too! My buddy has more than 15,000 on his Avon's and still going so I'm waiting on mine to come in this week. -
Is this for the 2005 up RSTD's? I can't offer a panel but would be interested in the end product!

Verticle Hide A Hitch
V-4 Vendetta replied to yamadawg's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Doesn't show when the hitch is removed. No clearance problems. I pulled a trailer 4,200 miles in July with it with no problems. Highly Recommended. -
Black Buildup in muffler
V-4 Vendetta replied to fardnarger's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have the exact same problem. I have a super dealer here in Tulsa (K&N Yamaha). They are excellent people. I had mine in for a check over and had the carbs synced and EGR done. The bike wasn't out of adjustment by much. I asked them about the difference and they said they didn't pay much attention to the carbon build up on mufflers. I know my carbs are in sync and the carbs mixture is correct via the EGR test. I'm not going to worry about it but it is weird. -
You can always spot your friends can't you? I'm trying to locate the Yammy Ball Milled Water pump cover. No luck for me either.

I am looking for the Ball Milled Water Pump Cover STR-4NK27-41-02 for my 07 RSTD. I can't seem to find one at any online dealer. Dear Mama Yama isn't making them now. If you have one you would be willing to sell or have seen one at a dealer please let me know. Thanks...

I forwarded this information to a friend who has had all three types of clutch baskets installed with only a small improvement. I don't really have that bad of a whine, but both of us have a 10oz. bottle on order.

You mean the same Yamaha that still puts cassette decks in Ventures? -
I can't say enough good things about my Michellin Commanders. I have around 8,000 miles on my set so far and they are wearing very well. I went to them after my OEMs wore out. Excellent handling improvement and outstanding control in the rain.

New Avon Venom....nearly killed myself!!!
V-4 Vendetta replied to Maritimer's topic in General Tech Talk
Be extra careful for about the first 30 miles or so. If your dealer neglected to warn you, the factory uses a release agent to allow the tire to be removed from the mold easily. The residue is slippery and take 30 miles or so to wear off the tire. Be careful in the curves the first 30. -
I don't think you meant (at least I hope) to be condescending. I understand the science behind radiators, fans and thermostats. I work in the electric power industry and work with extra high voltage transformers (345,000 volts)that carry hundreds of megawatts of power. These transformers have a very complex system of pumps, radiotors, and fans that are also thermostatically controlled. Even as well cooled as they are the ambient temperature does make a difference and the units will run hotter as the ambient reaches a high enough point. Motorcycles have the added benefit of the wind chill effect but even that looses its effectiveness in temps of 100 degrees. We get that alot where I live. Next time I'll not just make a quick comment but go into more detail for your benefit.

Hotter outside always equals hotter inside the engine and Cooler outside always equals a cooler running engine. Ambient temperature always affect the running temperature of anything that's not insulated to withstand the change.

Response from Yamaha Canada re: Clutch Basket

Has anyone thought of finding a good machine shop that could remake the gears and basket to mesh properly? Doing so could cause the machine shop to make big bucks for all the redo's they would have. Could be pretty lucrative for some major shop and give Yamaha a big poop sandwich to eat!!! -
Hang in there. I used to have the same feeling with the bike. You will find that feeling disappears with experience. Try to ride the bike at least 5 days a week even if for a little while. This will keep your "feel" for the bike in sync. Worked for me. I am very glad you and the wife are taking the experienced rider course. Practice the techniques often, especially the U-turns and slow speed manuvers. You will be glad you did.

Making the Venture handle better...My best advice is for you to take the MSF(Motorcycle Safety Foundation) Experienced Rider Course. It will teach you what you need to know to make any bike handle the way you want. Truth is, the Venture and Tour Deluxe and not top heavy like most claim. They handle wonderfully well once the rider's skill level is up to par. Take the course, Take it to heart, Practice, Practice, Practice, and Practice the techniques some more. The proper riding techniques will make your Venture handle like a dream. It's all in using the proper mechanics and knowing where your bike's balance points lie. P.S. Make sure the wife takes the course with you. Riding two-up is a team effort and both partners need to know what to do. I hope this advice helps. I make sure and retake the course every year and practice the techniques whenever I can.

Do yourself a big favor my friend and buy a vacuum pump. This job can be a real pain and take forever without one. -
I agree! Great bike, but alot of people I meet have never seen one before! Just this weekend a man came up to me and complimented my bike. He asked what it was and after telling him all about it he was impressed. He's a VTX rider. Yamaha just doesn't seem to get the whole advertising bit for touring bikes. I guess that's why they call it Yamaha's best kept secret! LOL!

Smooth, Billet, Passenger Floorboard Backing Plates
V-4 Vendetta replied to petekadish's topic in Watering Hole
Hello, do you have other chrome items for sale? I can't find any smooth engine breather covers anywhere. I spoke with Yamaha yesterday and apparently they lost their vendor that made the breather cover and passenger backing plate back in March of 2008 and haven't found a new vendor yet. Amazing that they haven't found a replacement vendor and it's been over a year! -
GOOD for YOU! Glad you are not going to let it stop your input. I would miss it.

Is there a shorter person with mustang or ultimate
V-4 Vendetta replied to wrongway2's topic in Watering Hole
We have an 07 RSTD. I'm 5'8" with a 30" inseam. I've had the Mustang and now have the Ultimate. Not much difference in height but the Ultimate is way way more comfortable. I put a year into a Mustang and kept getting hip pain. We just got back from a 2-week 4,200 mile trip on the Ultimate and there's just no comparison in comfort.
