  1. Nah, went thru the carb thing 3 months ago... they stay put . I am thinking about moving the TCI up on top of the air cleaner. Saw some pics on here.. looks good; at least you can get at it if you need to.
  2. Thanks George..
  3. How do you remove the TCI from an '86 VR. I think I have a moisture problem as it is stumbling and running like it's missing part of the time. I went through some pretty heavy thunderstorms this summer and drown the bike pretty good 3-4 times. Can't think of what else it would be. Got new plugs and the warmer the engine gets the better it runs. Do you have to remove all the front end plastic? I've removed the battery and box and it looks like the whole front of the bike has to come off to get at the TCI screws/bolts as they are somewhere underneath the battery box crossmember. Hope I'm missing something and there is an easier way...
  4. Man, I really do feel for ya. Had to do the same with my shepard "Bear" for the same reasons. Still have his picture by my 'puter. I can't believe how hard this is to write... I know they are without pain now. Take care Dan...
  5. Thanks Bob.. I live out in the sticks and have had packages go to never-never land, so I try to keep track of them closer than other folks. Appreciate it... Hope you get your stator problem fixed.. ain't it fun working on a bike at night... in the rain ...
  6. Bob... Just confirming you mailed the thing... It ain't but 275 miles and I still don't have it
  7. Maby that's GeorgeS's shorthand :rotfl:
  8. It's probably too late now, that I caught this, but I had an '84 and it served me well, once I got the stator problem delt with. Couple notes tho. I definately would be looking at an Aspencade instead of an Interstate. Aspencade was a much nicer bike with all the bells and whistles and an Interstate was their cheapy model. Your buddy would be much happier with an Aspencade. If possible(for the older GWs) look for an '85 LTD or an '86 SE-i. I would take either one.
  9. Thanks.... but I really doubt you can find a Post Office open on Monday. It's Columbus day... Go for a ride instead
  10. Gotta remember it's not the plug you want to heat; it's the area around the plug. The plug has to stay cold. Heat expands; cold contracts. When you use heat, you are trying to seperate the male threads from the female. Hope that didn't sound like I think it did but it's correct. Couple other things... you can tap on the plug, which you are and also on the area surrounding the plug. Use a piece of hardwood. Be gentle but consistant. You can also try to tighten the bolt a bit by tapping on the rachet, then go the other way. It's frustrating... been there done that
  11. Yeah Bob, it was me. I got it.. money on its way. Thanks:thumbsup2:
  12. Gonna give it a go. If it don't work, I might ride up there and see if two heads can figure out the problem I haven't been up there in a long time
  13. Hey Bob... I was seeing that you still have the radio/intercom amp on eBay. It seems all my radio stuff is giving sound only on the left side of my or my pass. helemets. Speakers are getting both lt/rt but not the helments. So I'm thinking it may be in the main amp itself. Considering the financial scene, what's the bottom price of the amp. Thanks.
  14. You're quite welcome Sir, hope it works for ya:fingers-crossed-emo
  15. Here is an old thread but should still work. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=459
  16. Alrighty then and I second GeorgeS' recomendation on SeaFoam. It really is good stuff. Get it from Wallys World or almost any Autozone, etc. It will smoke a bit on ya but it is just doing its job. The filter is a NAPA 3007 or a 3011 will work. Keep us posted
  17. I know you know this but each carb has a screw that lets you drain fuel out the drain hose. Is it possible there is something keeping the screw from going all the way in? Maybe take the screw out and check it:think:
  18. I've been out working on this thing since early this morning. Had every plug apart, looked for pinched wires, burnt wires, corrosion, whatever and found nothing. To answer your question 93, the power, set, resume lights come on when I turn it on. The power light stays on, I get up to speed, hit set and nothing... no light, not even for a sec. I tore the switch apart, cleaned it and you can hear the switch click when you move it to set or back the other way. I am beyond my electronics capability to start checking plugs and switches but I did check the fuses. Think I may end up like you bobcat, and just get one of those friction lock thingys and be done with it. There is too much electrical stuff that effects the CC and I don't have spares to sort it out; the list of "could be's" goes on and on. I thank you guys for the ideas and the help, especially the diagram Mike. Guess I could fix it by replacing the whole bike but that is a little extreme:mo money:

    To Trike or Not

Hey Salt... one last blurb on the subject of trikes. There is a new breed of them comming out that you may want to have a quick peek at and that is the Can-Am. http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Article_Page.aspx?ArticleID=4456. The local stealer is selling them for 15-18g. I almost took it for a ride but I was in a hurry that day and couldn't. I looked "interesting" and was a departure from the standard looking trike.
  20. Thanks guys... I'm going to try to chase wires tomorrow. Got a meter. Gonna see what I can come up with. I've been through 3-4 really nasty t-storms in the last month(not on purpose, I can assure you) and maybe I drowned something.
  21. Hi jb.. Yeah, tried the whole clutch thing; took the pin out took the spring off, stretched it a little. No change at all. Also made sure the brake light switches were clear, nada. There has to be a central processor thingy that has gone bad somewhere. Thanks for your input. BTW, I got this scoot from one of your "neighbors"; a guy over in DeBary.
  22. Running out of ideas. The cruise in this '86 used to work, not great, but it worked. Now it will turn on, all the lights come on-then go off with power light still on. Hit the set button and nothing happens. It's like the wire was cut. I took the switch apart and it looked good; cleaned it, and put it back together. I have done the same to the clutch switch and the brake switch. I took the instrument panel apart(to get the bug out of the speedo:rotf:) and took apart all the plugs and cleaned them and put dielctric in them. Then I did it to almost every plug on the scoot. The scoot was kept mostly indoors during it's former life and everything has been free of corrosion. I have tried to chase wires but the diagram I have(the free downloadable one here) is mostly unreadable so I am not having any luck with the wirs. I know little about electronics and get easily bogged down. I don't know how the system works but I think when I hit the set switch, a signal goes to a black box or 2(haven't a clue) which works the diaphram conected to the throttle box. I just don't know what next. Any help would be appreciated.
  23. George... I used to work for a mattress maker and they always said the most comforable foam was a tri-layered, with a hard layer between 2 softer ones. I used to get my foam at a foam store and had them order it. It was great for RV mattresses too.
  24. Now Brake Pad, you can't expect the disabled to do everything... oh, the disability... they only have one hand... the other one is a cell phone.
  25. We did the Thunder Beach at Panama City Beach thing Sat. Took in the custom bikes and I took a few pics. They were more beautiful in person and some were very unique. Enjoy
