Hey Bob i'll come over with my sidecar and take you out for a ride if your not ready to ride your bike yet.LOL! At least it'll be bike related.

I thought thats why we all ride 45 mpg motorcycles to put a thumb in the eye of the oil Barons. Still its a shame that theres no real competitive alternate fuel source out there. Even the electric fuel cells being developed and designed to extract hydrogen from a petroleum based product.. Why hasn't anyone come up with a quick efficient steam generator system quick enough to produce steam to power a generator to run electric motors at each wheel (ala the tankless water heater systems?). Imagine a two wheel drive bike with a motor at each hub!

as A trainer and weight lifter myself i couldn't agree with your daughter more. Plus a little resistance training not only replaces muscle we may lose but helps to build and maintain bone density. For many of us as we get older thats a must! Remember what you don't use you lose!

Instead of an adapter plate has anyone taken the time to research if theres an alternate car or bike filter out there that would work just as well/ Just curious,of course a K&N would still be my first choice especially with it being cleanable.

That people seem to attach themselves to their opinions and then take offense when others disagree. I meant no offensive to you or any other 2nd gen'ers that ride their bikes to the tires edge. I feel thats the way any bike should be ridden. What i meant was that SOME people ride with a car tire because MOST of what they do is highway riding where that kind of tire would hold an advantage for them. ( And drag racing. LOL!). I've ridden with plenty of Wingers and FLH guys in my 35 years of riding to know what a bike is capable of doing I have no doubt that you can take the nice bike of your right to the edge. On a side note , after reading your thread about top speed located a loose plug wire on my 85 and after getting it sorted out took her out for a spin. Rembering your thread i opened her up to see what she's got hit 45-50 in first, had 70 in second then rowed up too fifth and had 95 before I ran out of rouad but i'm sure there was lots more in ther. But the bikes still new to me so I'm going to test her limits in small increments. At least until I can sense the bikes balance and nature a little better. keep up the good work ,by the way i'm really enjoying this sight you've created and the moderators you've pu it place.

Is it the Darkside site itself or the Car tire issue? Personnally it seems like alot of smoke for nothing? Trikes and sidecars have been using car tires or like tires for years. The first motorcycle tires were car tires. There was no difference thats because most bikes didn't need the cornering clearances that many do today. I came On a guy a few years ago with a CT on his Valkeryie and loved it. On something like my sidecar the flatter the better because i never use the rounded edge of the bike tire because a sidecar doesn't lean. The problem is my XS1100 has too thin a rim but there are plenty of vintage tires coming out of China for that. Car tires are great if your riding a cruiser that barrels down the Highway 90% of its life. It puts more rubber to the road. BUT and "IT'S A BIG BUT" It should be made clear to all BEFORE they go to this mod that cornering is alot harder as you try to wheel the bike onto the outer edge of the tire. AND now you've gone from a tire with alot of rubber on the road to alot less as the the bike is leaned up onto the pointed edge of the tire. For most who've become accustom to this its no big deal Factory bikes like the Vistory with its massive 280 series tires are harder to heel over but again the CT puts more rubber on the flat riding surface most ride. I think as long as these pros and cons are promoted equally then this site should be safe. But if the CT idea is simply promoted as cheap and Looking cool with the apparent loss of traction in hard turns made fully aware to those who might try it then we aren't being fair to the Car Tire idea or those that might like to try it. On a first gen bike i'd not try it because I like the !st gen sport bike like cornering ability. On the 2nd gen more cruiser like that see more highway than Byway it might be much better. Thats my 2 cents

thanks for the come back Jerry . Only 50? you young whipper snapper, I'm 55. You're right about the power coming on though I'm glad to hear ypu say that. i noticed the meat of the power band starts there too. I wasn't sure if thats where it should be coming on . My Honda has two, One starts at 2500 rpm then theres a second that comes on between 5ooo and 7000 that turns it into a very different machine. By comparison the Venture just builds strong from the 3500 on up no spikes. If you ever get over to Huff st. look me up I live right on the canal lock. Okay not on it in a house next to it. running a little rough

i just wanted to let everybody know that I think i solved part of the problem. was doing a check and one of the spark plug wirwes seemed barely into the cap. i pulled the cap made sure it was in good amd snug then checked all the others. Then i took it out and kept in my mind the things RandyA said about the performance. At first the vibs still seemed there. But took it out on the highway and it definitely seems stronger though not as strong at first as I thought RandyA was describing. On the way home I decided to open her up all the way and was pleasently surprised at hitting close to 40 in 1st heading to 65 in second near red line and then rowing up through the gears with 95 on the clock in fifth and plenty of steam but not enough road to go. Also i wasn't so sure i wanted to be flying along on this big thing just yet. i was reading in another thread about top speeds and i had no diooubt from what i was feeling that the ton was easily within reach. How much after that I'll wait until i get to know her a bit better before I ask her to go all the way. Oh and the plug tops were a bit rusted so they'll definitely be changed soon not as hard a fix as i had thought . thanks again guys. Phil. -
It was a shame, but It seemed a neccesity. I sided with the decenting Judges and got a bit beat up on because people get so emotional over the 2nd amendment issue. It was starting to get a little nasty and As Radkill said the faceless nature of the internet has a way of letting people lose control of their emotions. On top of that this IS a motorcycle site and I, being new, would hate to see outside subjects divide members and friends.

Hey Todd i wonder how a V max dumby tank and scoop would look on that thing. Basically the same bikes. Some low bars and a headlight and maybe even some better ground clearance and handling.

thanks for the advise and maybe I'll try to get out your way. Its great havingthis kind iof a friendship network. I've already spoken with another New York member right here in Waterloo and I hope to meet more N.Y members like yourself. Again thanks for the advice i appreciate it all. Phil

Well Jerry i guess that wasn't you but hope we can get together soon. Yammer, RandyA and everyone else, thanks for the advice. Thats what I thought it was i just never heard it refered to that way . At least now i know what I'm looking for and I've had experience with them. I now have an excellent trouble shooting list to work with. First thing i'll do is simple check my plug connections from there i'll change out the plugs check all my wires and connections and if its not electrical then i'll move on to the carb's checking those diaphams first. Again thank you all for that excellent advice. It's making owning my Venture an even greater joy. I hope that someday i'll be able to convince some of you to head up here to New york either for the Americade or to come and enjoy our beautiful Finger Lakes area. I'll let you know the result of my work as it progresses. Phil -

PBJ replied to PBJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
you guys for the helpful advise. I'm lucky enough that the basic condition of my 85 was very good . I've never had these problems with my Honda or sidecar rig because i always prep them at the end of the season and tuck them into the garage with a full gas tank to avoid rusting, stabilizer and fresh 10w30 for the spring. It breaks my heart to see a bike neglected. It takes so little to keep them in great running order. -

Dan, please explain what the TMI is, where itys located and what it does? Thanks. I think I know because i had to change an electronic ignition system on an old yamaha 750 triple. It was close to $400 bucks back then.I was lucky enough to pick up a 750 a gfuy had left at a dealers . i paid the bill and took it home and switched out the parts. the ignition alone was worth every penny i paid for that parts bike. -
