    Why Sell?

    Hey Giga the only reason they're buying wings is because they don't make a bike like the 1st gen that was a direct competiton to the wing and not a Harley.

  5. Instead of the 562 I'd like to recommend the 700 model. It ahs a high back seat with a lockable compartment and comes with a nice vinyl top. I have one on my XS1100 Venturer. The answer to the bottom mounting bracket is to make a bar steel adapter that you can hook onto the centerstand mounting bracket. Does the RSV have one? if not then attach the bracket to the frame under the bike. this gives a very stable mounting point for the bottom bracket. As far as mounting up the Velorex to two different bike I would seriously consider buying a second set of mounting bracket and permanently install a set on each bike. Getting mounting brackets right and set is a time consuming process and once on you're done you don't want to be removing them. An excellent source of information is Hack'd magazine. they've been publishing excellent mounting information for years and usually have back issues available for you. Also as far as the weight and electrical problems are concerned one answer takes care of both things, Mount a car battery behind the seat and run cables to the bike. You'll have the ballist weight you'll need and the extra electrical power to run the extra lights on the bike and the chair. i learned this trick from a guy pulling a Henderson sport chair on a Honda St1300. Since I made the conversion I haven't had anymore electrical problem with my rig. See car tires aren't the only car parts we can use on our bikes. Getting the chair mounted is basically based on the type of roads you generally ride, there are compromisesto make. Having ridden with a chair for over ten years I can tell you it's a ball, a little scary at times but with practice you can keep up in almost any situation. if you need help let me know.

    Last one of those I got i told them i was an Indian shaman hired by the family to put a curse on the return email that would cause bad things to happen to all associated with his profession include having his competitor try to kill him. I fugure with those guys it's probably not that far from the truth. Maybe theres a few susperstitous folks working there. LOL!

Usually i find it best to slow as much as possible ( in a situation like you were in ) and feet down and low throttle "walk " the bike across the stones using feet as out riggers but the throttle to move the bike. Because it was a driveway i'm sure you felt the need to stop completely to check for traffic. Slower the better because as said before momentum can take the bike from one side to the other and the gravel will roll under your feet. This is also something to look out for at intersections as well ,especially in the early spring when they are filled with left over gravel and undisolved salt granuales. They may not even be noticable but can cause a foot to slide out from under you and over you go. All the wonderfull things to redicover in motorcycling Waterbug.     It's over....

    Having just joined and a trip to Italy already planned and paid for this years rallye was just out of reach for us. But with Kitchener and Canada just just a few hours away if theres another rallye next year we'll be there To put faces to names for the site. Sorry we couldn't make it either, can't wait for the pix.
  9. not to throw cold water on this but if Yamaha is true to form they'll detune the sh*t out of the thing and leave it with only a measly 130hp or so. Wait a minutre... that wouldn't be so bad!

  11. You might not want to mention the washing. Theres is a chance they could say that you scratched it with something in the clothe. Of course as Redneck said its not coverd by warranty, but the could cut you a deal or even replace it free just for the good PR. Good Luck.

  13. When i got my 85 I thought the seat was dirty. It also was sticky to the touch on the passenger seat. Its already stained a pair of the girlfriends pants. I've tried cleaning it with everything i can think of . So far Windex and nail polish remove have worked BUT Now I'm wondering am i taking a color layer off the top of the seat or am i removing some sort of foreign goo that has been deposited by the prevoius owner in cleaning/treating the seat. The sticky layer can be "rolled" with the finger like glue on a sticker. I read on another site that Armor All might be the culprit If so is there a way to remove it or do i have a seat that needs replacing?

    nice 84 i almost bought a burgundy and red one. Ended up with the Brown and gold I've liked that color best,( just personal preference). But your red bike looks nice. Of course its a first gen the best of them all anyway.

  15. Okay no ct for my Honda or Venture but my sidecar rig For that I would consider it for all the reasons mentioned . The problem is the narrow wheel, what could possible be narrow enough and readily available to fit an XS1100 front and back. I normally run the cheapest tires I can get because I'm lucky to get two seasons of riding out of them. At high speeds and excelleration rigs "crabwalk" or do a slight sideways slide it eats up a tire faster. Okays guys what can you recommend? Phil.
  16. Your lucky that the prvious owner had already installed the K&N's for you saving you alot of money. The thread was started because some one was wondering if there was an alternative to the OEM Yamaha part at a cheaper price. Of course the K&N's are a better alternative but the question was really about other alternatives.
  17. I was the same way . Love the Venture from the begining but the wife and i both rode our own. the new lady doesn't ride so a venture was the tourer I wanted and the 85 was the one i wanted . Paid $1800 with 35k new fork seals too, what a deal.
  18. TAR SNAKES especially now here in the north east with the heat. They've already become slippery and then with sudden thunderstorms can be deadly watch for those too.
  19. Man, Tatonka you got lucky. Your post reminded me of an incident that happened here in New York almost ten tears ago. A charter boat captain from Australia came to America. He pictured up a brand nrew Honda Gold Wing in L.A. and rode it all the way to New York for the Americade. This guy was big, friendly and the nicest aussie you could ever meet. His nickname was the "Whale" and he became the longest distance winner and and an Americade favorite that year. His plan was to start with the Americade and ride to ever rallye he could through until September. His next stop was Laconia in New Hampshire. hge had stopped at Bill Dutcher, the Americade organizers home for breakfast then headed on his way. @0 mintues later the Dutchers recieved a phone call, the Whale had left their house and even though he'd ridden across the U.S, without incident immediatly started riding the wrong side of the highway. he hit a pick at full speed coming around a blind curve. It was a tragedy that rocked everone who had meet him. Americade volunteers returned to Lake George for the funeral. One moment of forgetfullness and the life of a good man was ended. Please be careful we need all the good guys we have

  22. Got mine for $1800 with 35k on it and thought I got a deal ! Don't let the bike get away. Even if you decide you don't want it you could resell it here or on Ebay for close to twice that. they're averaging around $3000 on E bay
  23. Thid debate still fascinates me. There are very good mc tires with flat profiles that will work just as good. The first that comes to mind is the Dunlop 491 that came as an oem tire in the 80's. Then there are Kendra tires that are dirty cheap. eat'em up, buy more. Then theres JC Whitney that still sells flat profile tires for old brit bike that would be Ideal. Car tires aren't bad but not the only option.
  24. An 89 with only 16,000 miles is an excellent choice. On a site like this theres plwenty of parts availablity. Carbs? well that could be a problem if your dad didn't add stabilizer . Still if your dad gives it to ya at a good price the price of the carb cleaning wouldn't be awful. BESIDES YOU KNOW THE PREVIOUS OWNER . A 89 1st gen will last a lonnnnnnng time.
  25. If for some ungodly reason you weren't protected and you do get a virus(or this virus) if it isn't a hoax. You can remove it with out software by rebooting your computer in safe mode and going into you computer settings and set it to a day before the infection occured . You might lose something downloaded that day . but its cheaper(free) and fool proof, Like travelling backwards in computer time.
