The interesting thing is that the oil we get from the ground actually came from algae that was in the oceans millions of years ago and was buried as it dropped to the oceans floors. Learning now that the body of algae is 75% oil seems the answer .Oddly though with so much money going to the oil companies it isn't going to be our Government or even China that will get the edge over us . It will be the United Arab Emerites if they turn even a tenth of their recent profit toward algae/oil production. Think about it, trillions of dollars for investment, Thousand of acres of barren open land, bountiful amounts of sun and they live on the edge of a sea so they can get all the sea water that they want. Whats that saying about only the rich get richer?!?

Amazing what you can do when you let your imagination go wild. WOW!

The Harley name has really become synonymous with cruiser, V twin motorcycles. Most non riders can't really tell a V twin Harley from a Vulcan or a Roadstar or a Shadow. They all become a generic Harley Bike. Just the same as how some smaller 4 wheel drives are all thought of as Jeeps.

this cuts along the same lines as A pet peeve i've had for years and that is that everytime they have motorcyclist on some talk show its always some hard ass biker bunch 10%'ers that in no way represent the total spectrum of Motorcyclists. Of course now with all the Stunters out their they're starting to get all the attention from the media while folks like us that ride and and live the motorcycle lifestyle get generally ignored. I don't neccesarilly feel people need to be singing our praises but it would be nice to see riders in general reperesented as mom's and dad's, married couples , friends and family that all enjoy riding together.

Hey shooter, I'm running and E3 on my 85 1st Gen and its still wearing strong. The profiles a bit flattened now and when I get it over into the meat of the side thread it does make a whine or howling noise. That I attribute to the deepness of the thread and the hardness of the rubber. It seems to be wearing extremely well And personally i've never had any complaints with any Dunlop tires I've used either on my Venture , My Honda V4 Sabre or my Yamaha XS 1100 sidecar rig.

I guess we shouls all keep our eyes open for triked out Ventures and the parts they shed too. great idea!

first gen xvz12 comparison with xj1100 ?
PBJ replied to 6m459's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I still have my XS and still love it . My son rides an XJ 750 and its as smooth and as strong as an electric motor. I bought mine in full dress too but that didn't disguise the heart in this monster. I bought mine for $800 buck dropped a $100 bucks of electrical work into it and have love it .It surprising how incredibly strong the bike is but its exactly what i needed to pull my sidecar . And does it ever pull. More than once I've found myself having to grab brake to keep from running up the back end of my riding buddies. I eventually named it Wretched , Wretched XS because of all that power. Its well worth owning whether you need it or not! -
Mini your welcome. I hope I'm not causing problems. When my ex and I rode with our kids i always drove the rig. It can be a handfull even set up properly. But its the driver that really needs to be doing the setting up because it has to be to that drivers specifications and abilities.. It could become maddening for you , trying to explain to Jeff how the car is feeling or pulling one way or they other. I want you both to be safe and enjoy the experience at the same time. Like I said i love mine and ride it solo just because i have fun but I've also learned to tame the beast and it does take a bit of time. Once that sidecar is on its not a bike anymore Its a sidecar rig or hack or chair. It is it's own kind of fun, but it is a handful.

I agree the more i see them the more i think thats the way to go with my side car too.

I'm sure they don't do this with all their tiresd but they sold me two that were 6 yeras old and the begining of my second season with them they wouldn't pass inpection due to dry rot. Luckily the manufacturer gave me a second pair for free.

thats odd I thought one of the biggest trike conversion companies was in Canada?

the video said that they get to live happily in a contamination FREE looped system. they get all the water they want and all the sun light the want to grow their own food and reproduce. And all they have to give up is a little body fat. Wait, wait. I got It! We have a problem with obesity right? Lets get people to sell all that excess body fat they we can turn it into fuel! HEKLL AS FAT AS WE AMERICANS ARE WE COULD NOT ONLY FUEL ALL OF OUR CARS BUT INDIA AND CHINA'S TOO. LOL!

Hey Pick if their that dirty How do ya Know they aren't already scratched?! LOL! Don, what a shame to have a beautiful machine and something ( as we all know) so personal as a Bike vandalized. I hope it wasn't a fellow rider of an American made bike. Some people take it might personal the imitation Metric crusiers they feel are cutting into another brands market. I know many of our members also own and love Harley's so Its not those I'm talking about . Its just sad. back when I was working for GM I bought a little Suzuki Samurai drove it to work . One day i come out to find it keyed front to back by a Union brother. I got off luck though because a woman with another one had three of her 4 tires slashed so it had to carted away on a flat bed. I was never so angry or ashamed. Hope you get it repaired to your liking. OR you'll probably just have to go out and buy a brand new one. Woudn't that be awful! Don't let it spoil the rest of your trip! Ride safe!

My 85 has Dunlop Elite III's on them and it was one of the first things i noitce about the bike. Leaned over at speed the rear was giving me noise too, The tire still has plenty of center thread but it is a bit flattened out. When i ride it into the thicker side thread then i get noise. My first assumption was it has to be the touring tire componds for such a heavy bike. My Honda Sabre 1100 is about 560lbs. and I never have gotten noise out of those tires whether I was running Dunlops, Continentals or Kendra's.

Jeff, I'll be glad to answer any and all questions you have I drive limo on weekends and will be doing a wine tour from 12 to 6 pm but if you call me or leave a text mmessage Ii'll get back to you once I make a stop I usually have a half hour per stop so we can talk. BUT ( Sorry with these Buts) Too many times Husband assume that a sidecar is some how softer or easier to ride because it has three wheel. too many people associate a side car with a trike. But its not. Sidecars have are inherantly off balanced. Theres a delicate tipping point that chair riders all understand. Trikes don't have this because their axles are equal distant on both sides like training wheels . If the chair wheel comes up theres nothing on the other side to catch it. When you tell me MINI is going to ride it it sets off alarm bells because a chair takes alot of upper body strength at times like into curves. It isn't for the weak. I'm not saying women can't ride them , a woman can do anything she puts her mind to but it needs to be understood that its not going to be easier with a chair but a little harder. Weight and balance are everything. Never forget that. Now I have a story to tel you that i've hesaitated in telling you. 5 years ago a Mother and her two children were killed in a sidecar incident here In New York . The Mom was relatively new to sidecaring but not a novice. the mistake she made was that she and her teenage daughter were on the bike the daughter felt it cooler to be on the bike. They put her Nine year old brother in the car, The weight of the brother wasn't enought to compensate for the weight of the two adults on the bike . She went into a curve with too much speed and the wheel lifted . Like a told you in another post once that wheel lifts its a bike again and you have to mentally switch back to countersteering. The mom paniked and couldn't wrestle the wheel back down and the rig went across the line right into a car . Lesson here the more weight in the car the better. and setting the car up to the weight that will normally be kept in it be it dogs, people or luggage is essential to happy and safe rigging. I'm not saying this to be alarmist but its important that you know all these things. call me saturday and I'll get backto you as quickly as i can Phil.

Right Side Lean Stand Modification
PBJ replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If thats your greatest fear then you should catch one of Carol "Skirt" Skircowski's demonstrations on how to pictck up a fallen bike. carol is all of 5ft.4 and maybe 100lbs but she can pick up any bike ever made. Caorl taught herself a fool proof way of getting a downed bike back up on two wheels. if a method she originally taught women but anyone can use it and it works. Carol gives demo at rallyes all over the country. You should catch her if she's ever at a rallye . better yet we should invitwe her to one of ours. -
There ya go Jeff now you've heard it from both sides of the Atlantic. Print out Greg's and my posts and keep them in a file they should come in handing along with your instructions. And thanks Greg for backin me up on the set up advice.

Last year a guy out in New Mexico clicked some pix of a water cooled sporty. It looked like a cross beteween an XL racer and a V-Rod. But the talk has been for three years now that Harley will have to incorporate the V-rod engine into the Glide bikes and others to meet Euro 3 standards for engine noise. But it could be an all new engine as well. Harley has produced close to a dozen new engines in just the last 10 years if you include the Buell thunderstorms and the new Euro XL1200 motor.

Your friend put an Earles front end on his venture with the car tire. I've read nothing but good things about the stability the Earles gives to a sidecar. Is that the One made an Lancashire? or is it Lancaster I can't remember. Read about the couple thats making them in Hack"d some yers ago. The Bmwer looks like its on a Comete set up but I didn't recognize the body of the car . Is that a new design? I've only seen one or two here in the States and they looked racier than that one. Thanks for the shots the cars look great. Do you run car tiresd front and back? I see your friend does.

Of how the set up is going. Do you have someone close thats set up a chair before to help? Does the Motorvation come with a brake? Will you be setting that up too? I'll be glad to help with any advice i can send.

I don't know the exact diameter but I do know they are the same as a Gold Wing. I discoverd this by accident when I bought leather grips for my Sabre last year at Americade and they didn't fit (too big). But after bringing home my 85 with these worn out foam grips I thought i'd try the leather ones I bought and they fit. Hope that helps.
