  1. You let him Pass you ???!!!!
  2. Thanks! Yes I did win . And I agree its nice to see a product actually do what it says it will do. Just as an addendum ,there are also two deeper scratch in the middle of my shield that looks like may have been left by a radar detecter or ez pass unit The compound did lessen them but they were still visible. So this stuff may not remove deep gouges. But there is 1600 grit sand paper with the kit and with repeated working I might be able to get them completely out but i'm still working on them. I let everyone know of my progress.
  3. After picking up my 85 Royale In May one of the first things I noticed was that the windshield had been scratched along the top edge. There was also a film on the inside of the windshield i'm assuming was some kind of anti-glare film. It was deteriorating and flaking off. The previous owner I believe tried to remove the film with some kind of abrassive and had scratched the windshield in a three inch area along the top edge, right in my line of vision. A new windshield was going to be my firest repalcement part and several members had already pointed me to several on E-bay for about $75.00. While at Wally world yesterday I noticed a product called QUIXX repair system Acrylic Scrtach Remover. Part of me didn't believe it would work because my winshield was pretty clouded but for @$9 bucks i figured it wasn't much of a loss. I got to worK on it right away and tested it on a small part of the clouded area. The stuff is white and creamy and just seemed to smear into the plexiglass. The instructions say to rub it in hard.At first I don't think I was rubbing it in hard enough so I added a little more and rubbed harder. It seemed to be clearing. I spent the next hour slowly and firmly rubbing in compound in circular motions and watching the clouding get clearer and clearer using several more small applications of additional compound. The stuff never completely blended into the windshield and disappeared so i went to my old stand by all purpose cleaner Pledge Clean and shine with Orange. When I got done wiping off the Pledge and the residual cleaner I was shocked ! The windshield looked like new. The cloudiness was gone. A few of the deeper scratchs could be seen at an angle in the sun light but the general abrasive area was cleared. On top of that after cleaning out the cloth that come withthe kit I started to wipe the inside of the shield where the flaky film was and the wet cloth with a bit of the compound still in it started to remove the film as well.Several hours of work and a $9.00 box of Quixx and the windshield looks like new. I'll try to get some pix up later today. I regret i didn't think to take some before shots. I really didn't expect it to work so well. Phil.
  4. But Gig I think he enjoyed it to begin with!
  5. just incredible! thanks!
  6. Gig Don't do it! Give up a 1st Gen? SACRIELEDGE ! LOL!

  8. Man for a second there I thought i was on a Darkside thread:witch_brew:
  9. I paid $1800 for my 85 with 35k on it and some bumps amnd bruises. Before that i was shopping for a year . the average selling price on E-bay was around $3000. I saw one go for $4850 with only 8k on it . Bikes like my V65Sabre have been selling for $2500 to $3000 for over ten years. So they've been holding their price for years now but expect prices to rise as people are buying older bikes to beat gas prices. Theres a market out there for old bikes. Fix up what you have sitting around and make some money. And heres a thought Finding an old 84-85 with the second gear gone. for a thousand or less and even with a stealer fix at a thousand bucks you could still sell it for a profit
  10. Hey Bummer tell them its just a 100 hp wheelchair they'll understand that!
  11. Hi jerry, I'm not sure when you'll see this but I just wanted to say how nice it was to have you stop by last night. I thought I got a real bargain with my bike but your deal was unbelievable. I really am looking forward to us getting together for a ride with either family and friends or just the Ladies. I hope you look up my son and say Hi. I'll let him know we met. You inspired me to ask him to move down here with me. He has a bike and rides too. ( I think I told you that). Ride safe, Again its nice to know a fellow member right here in Waterloo. and someone still learning like I'll be doing. Phil.

  12. Hey Bob glad to hear your back in the saddle. Just don't rush the healing. watch your balance to much pressure in that incision, well you don't need me telling you that. You aren't heading to Sturgis are you? If so be CAREFUL! Wherever you're going I hope you and Becky have a good time.

  13. Are those just the intake manifolds that the carbs sit on top of?
  14. Though you probably won't get this until you end your day riding, enjoy every mile.there are alot of us that wish we were riding with you. I hope you've got the members list so you can contact any of us along the way. Look in your mirros sometime and you see our spirits all biking along behind you. Remeber a Venture Rider never rides alone! Phil.
  15. Welcome back to the road Bob. Sorry to hear that you and Becky won't be able to join Tom and I in a couple of weeks but you've got the absolutely best reason ! I hope we can all get together for an M&E after you get back. I'd love to try and get a few more New Yorkers together for a get together. Heck if a few of our Canadian Brothers, or Ohioians or Pennslyvanians want to join us that would be even better. Safe trip , breath the air deeply and enjoy every mile. See you soon. PHIL.
  16. I do like the look and sound of the stock pipes but those sure are purty!
  17. yep thats how I ride too.
  18. Of the first time we took our daughter and son on their first long trip into the Adirondacks here in New York. My daughter rode in the sidecar while my then 7 year oldrode behind me belted to the padded backrest. That was back in 97 now they own and ride their own bikes and have escorted me back to the mountains on their own bikes. They are both great riders. Maybe your kids will be riding with you :7_2_104[1]:someday too.
  19. A little over a year ago Motorcyclist magazine published a very informative article about Snell and DOT testing procedures. They found that the harder snell standards actually made an injury in a snell helmet more probable because the harder shell didn't absorb the impact energy soon enough by breaking . The studies conclusion was that helmets with a balanced amount of give distributes impact energy better and that in the future motorcyle helmet might actully be softer than present helmets. Weird but interesting,
  20. I say instead of revoking they're car license we should revoke their phone privelages for one year! Now theres a punishment that will really hurt them!!!
  21. Nothing puts a little sparkle to life like a new bike Huh Brad? Even if its not new just new to you. Beautiful Ride hope your both enjoy every minute on it. Phil.
  22. Count me in the 100 percenters. After switching to full face helmets years ago I tried riding with an open face helmet once. I spent so much time trying to dodge the tiny stones and bugs flyin toward my face that I was a wreck by time I got home. ( Bike I was on didn't have a windshield). Besides, I'm riding a 1st gen. now . You need a full face helmet on a sport bike!
  23. I have a wolf whistle on my bike and haven't hit a wolf yet! The darn thing don't work on coyotes though!
  24. I couldn't agree with your more which was part of why I used the response i did. For a conservative to blast liberals with out acknowleging that conservative have as many problems and abuses of the law is showing their own blindness to their groups own self serving attitudes. As far as the diabetic issue here we all know we shouldn't stereotype all diabetics either. As its been pointed out there are responsible ones and irresponsible one. If a diabetic is not doing what he or she needs to control thier conditon then they share a percemtage of the responsiblity in an accident and should take the appropriate punishment for not taking care of themselves and becoming a danger to others.
  25. Isn't "Freedom hating Liberal " and Oximoron. Consideing that the word Liberal comes from the word Liberty or fredom for all?
